I also have a 3rd anniversary cd from October 2003 . Here are the sleeve notes ... The sink club originally ran from 1963 to 1971and was owned and ran by Neil English , a jazz , r'n'b and soul enthusiast who provided a club for kids of all races to attend and mix freely ( rare in the city at the time ) When the Magnet opened in 1999 it captured the ethos behind the original sink club and inspired Patrick and Stan to form the Sink Soul Club . a monthly event presenting original 60s soul sets in the relaxed atmosphere and unique décor of The Magnet . Track list.... PATRICK COSTIGAN In the basement - Etta James & Sugar Pie DeSanto Callin' all boys - Ruby Johnson Steppin up in class - Jimmy McCrackin I never knew - Clyde McPhatter These kind of blues - Junior Parker School time - Billy Boy Arnold SINK TEAM RECORD Well ! - The Olympics STAN EVANS From day to day - Gene Chandler You got next to me baby - Bobby Adams Little John - Sammie John Don't start cryin' - Slim Harpo Sweet thing - Bobby Dee Tell me who - Big Maybelle DENNIS HAW Someones gonna cry - Val Martinez Love , I won't be a fool anymore - Chuck Wright Stolen angel - Scott Brothers Hold me close - Wade Flemmons No one can ever take your place - Sam Cook Yesterdays kisses - Maxine Brown PETER EVERETT Don't you just know it - Huey 'piano' Smith Ivory tower - Shirley & Jessie You oughta quit that - Junior Wells Big New York - Chuck Jackson You better check yourself - Soul Brothers Six Love the way you love - O.V Wright KEVIN MURRAY ( tribute to Edwin Starr ) I have faith in you Agent double o soul Stop her on sight Way over there 25 miles war . Ady Croasdell Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 Terrific programme, Stevie. Thanks for posting.
Back Street Blue Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 Great film that! Regret not taking the chance to go to the Sunday night revival do's early 2000's with regulars Pete Holden ("Niffer") and Jeanette, who are both old Wheelers, and big Lloyd from Oldham.
Little-stevie Posted March 17, 2015 Author Posted March 17, 2015 So nice to see the feedback, it was a labour of love from Pat over many years to get this out.. I hope he gets to see this thread... 2

Guest gfarrington Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 brill that , seem to vaguely remember that day, and patrick doing some filming , he asked to to sprinkle some talc on the floor while being filmed , must has edited that bit lol
Quinvy Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 It must be the only surviving venue of it's type in the country, barring the 100 club. Maybe should have a Blue Plaque? 1
Guest johnny hart Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 no offence Conchita never heard Norma Tanega played in any Soul Clubs I frequented in the 1960's and I visited plenty. God Bless Mick L Mick,Gracias for your kind comment, some more ; Liverpool in the 60s was a sad reflection of a racial malaise which infested much of the UK. Iremember being turned away from all the mainstream Soul clubs in Downtown scouseland ,you can,t come in La , why ? your mate ,He,s not on ,why he was rspectable ,had a tie on ,worked with me in the Royal Liver Biuldings as Clerical Assistant in the Tax Office? because he was Afro carribean,,. So we gravitated to the L.pool 8 district blues clubs &Shabines where I was welcome and grooved to Willie Tee, Prince Buster and Bob and Earl, the Sink was our starting point, Nobody cared about your colour just the 5 bob or was it Half a $ to get in, Salud, adios Johnny Lol.
Popular Post Brookesy Posted April 17, 2015 Popular Post Posted April 17, 2015 I have been asked by Stan Evans to post the following information: The Sink Soul Club will once again open its doors in the Summer of 2015. The club, now known as the Magnet, has been taken over by new owners who have undertaken a tasteful refurbishment of the premises and who wish to start up the legendary soul events once again at the club. The refurbishment has included the installation of a state of the art sound system in the venue and all works have been in keeping with the historic character of the club. Three dates have been booked, with more to follow... Sunday 17th May---Sunday Soul Session running from 3pm---9pm. Sunday 19th July---Sunday Soul Session running from 3pm---9pm. Sunday 30th August---Mini Nighter running from 8pm---4am. DJs for the two Sunday Soul Sessions will be Stan Evans, Pete Everett, Dennis Haw and Tony Brookes. For the mini nighter there will be additional guest DJs, to be arranged. More information will be posted as soon as it is available on here and in the events section, there will also be information and invitations posted on Facebook. The Sink is one of the last remaining original soul clubs in the North of England, this is an exciting opportunity to be a part of what will be a fantastic revival in this iconic basement club! 5
Popular Post Denbo Posted April 23, 2015 Popular Post Posted April 23, 2015 Great news. Well done Stan, Pete and Brookesy for making this happen. Long may it reign. For those traveling from afar, make a day of it, there are some great pubs and eateries very very close by. The pubs include the following;Fly In The Loaf - less than 100 yards down Hardman Street on the same side as the Sink, selling a wide range of Real Ales and foreign beers. Great pub and one of my first port of calls whenever I'm in Liverpool.Roscoe Head - on Roscoe Street, another 100 yards down from the Fly In The Loaf, again on the same side after crossing the lights at Rodney Street.Philharmonic - literally 20 yards away at the top of Hardman Street and same side as the Sink. Has one of the most ornate Gentleman's toilets in the country, not to mention the bar and the rest of its interior. There are loads more dotted about very close by. Click on this link for a map of them all.https://www.visitliverpool.com/dbimgs/Real%20Ale%20Liverpool.pdf Some of the eateries are as follows;Fly In The Loaf - Great Bar food!!! Recommended.Bistro Jacques - almost next door to the Sink. I've heard it's excellent.Ego Mediterranean - Just across the road from the Sink and next door to the Royal Philharmonic Hall on Hope Street. I've eaten here and it's excellent.Lucha Libre - Mexican food of outstanding quality. It's literally just 50 yards away from the Swan Inn I mentioned above as one of the pubs to visit. It's less of a restaurant and more of a 'canteena' (purposely spelled incorrectly) with basic decor and furniture but it's fast food with quality and mule like kicks. I could go on forever, as there's so many great places to drink and eat in the 'Hope Street Quarter' / 'Georgian Quarter' of Liverpool, within which the Sink resides. And of course, we haven't mentioned Chinatown yet, which is also within a 5 minute stroll downhill from the Sink. 4
Illusive Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 What a cracking little documentary. Made me grin from ear to ear.

Denbo Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 Anybody not wishing to use street parking from 3pm until 6pm, after which it's free, or can't find any when they arrive, then they can use this parking facility, which is open 24 hours and only 500 metres away from the Sink;https://www.secure-parking.co.uk/find-parking/parking-details/32-liverpool-central/?gclid=CInsrNOgnsUCFQsHwwodyXQA2A

Just seen it posted on youtube and would like to share it with you... Had the pleasure of helping out on this project and meeting the original members and owner who passed away since.. A nice slice of history..... Did anybody happen to copy the original You Tube posting above, before it was muted??? If so, please let me know, we'd love to have a copy so that we can reintroduce it in some way back onto The Sink Soul Club group page. Edited March 9, 2016 by denbo
