Simsy
exactly the same seller I told him myself they were boots he is obviously keen to keep buyers ID private so we cant contact them to say they are being ripped off. all the big titles he is selling are reissue/bootleegs he bought them from the UK I have been on eBay since Nov. 1999 and never had a problem. In the beginning I would give a full refund and I was getting records back without a reason. I now state All Sales Final. BUT if a customer is unhappy I do give a refund. My eBay statement From my own Collection. If I buy a record from you today and next month decide to sell it on eBay I still believe it's from my own collection. All the statements on my listings are standord this way I only have to type the record title. I bought my first record in 1953 and had over 18,000 7" 45s. All records from the late 40s to the early 60s. Today they call them Doo Wop. I never bought any what they call today Northern Soul except early items on Motown (Satintones, etc.). I do buy and sell on eBay as you can see in my Feedback. I get eMail from all over with people asking me to buy records as well as Autographed Items (Baseballs etc.). The record on the Trudel Label looks good to me and I paid $18 from the UK. I put it on eBay for $24.99. I can not tell Plastic from Vinyl as you stated. I do not have any info as to the Matrix numbers or the numbers written in the Dead Wax. The label looks really good and the sound quality is fine. Even tho I have never seen it before. Now as far as a Private Auction. I use to let everyone see the bidders and started to receive complaints from eBayers. Example: You place a bid of say $90. Someone bids $95 and wins the record. They even used a snip program which is legal on eBay and places a bid automatically 4 seconds before the auction's end. The next day you receive an eMail that someone has the record and will sell it to you for $75. You send the money and never get the record. Ebay can not help you. I have never had a negative feedback that said I would not give a Full Refund. I have cancelled checks and PayPal refunds that were sent. Not many because most are happy. I say on eBay if you have any doubt or I do not answer a question to your liking Please DO NOT BID. I was confused at first when you sent me the first email from: Question for item #4805525858 - RARE DOO WOP THE DELLS. Because I bought that record when it was first released. 2 people from the UK told me they would send me a scan of the Phonetics record. I have not received the scan? Martyn Pitt
Joe, They make the boots to look like the originals - look alikes. Anyone selling Northern Soul in the UK will know the true value of an original, so if they are selling a $500 plus record for $20 something probably aint right. If they are coming out of the UK in absolute brand new mint condition, something probably aint right. There are some boots about from a few years ago that you need a real one alongside it to spot the difference, it is not always easy. Martyn Link to comment Social source share

Martyn Pitt
Dave, There is a 50 / 50 chance, but by explaining politely the point is probably better taken, which had not been the case. If we catch him doing it again the issue is proved beyond doubt. If something looks to good to be true, it probably is. Is a gold Rolex for £25 going to be real, not a chance. In all honesty we should be targeting the manufacturers of these fakes, thats what they are fakes, lets not dress it up re-issues, boots whatever, at the end of the day they are fakes. Take your £25 fake Rolex into an authorised dealer for a new battery and he has every right to smash it to bits, it is after all a fake. I think the best plan of action is to stop the things being made in the first place, after all it is on our shores where they originate. Guest
Sorry, wouldn't know about the 70's, born in '81. How could a long time record dealer not see that these records are bootlegs, soul, doowop or otherwise. I am no expert any other field of music, BUT I know for the most part what a knockoff looks like. There are exceptions, but this is not one of them. Sam Fletcher belgium bootleg and Moses Smith are very cleverly done, and it would be understandable if you were mislead when buying them. You MUST have had inkling of doubt that something was not right with those records. AND YET, you still tried to pass them off!! SO, what I am trying to say is that no one is gonna believe that a "long time dealer" like yourself would not figure out these were boots. Simple as that. "I didn't know any better" is an excuse reserved for children....not a dealer who "took on the bootleggers in the 70's". Been on eBay and never had a problem till I bought these records from the UK and added a small markup. All I hear is that they were recently booted????? Other End label issues are west coast (styrene), blue/orange, or east coast (vinyl), sausage dog logo Anna King etc. Except, Lenny Curtiss which have never turned up on dog logo east coast pressings? Guest Matt Male
Normally i'd say 'buyer beware'. If you're collecting rare soul you should know your stuff or expect to get ripped off, not many people buy one off vinyl 45s unless they are buying gifts i expect so whoever bought this must be collecting. However, this is such an extreme case of difference in value that i think Joe should either reimburse the buyer and relist the item or reduce the cost to it's more likely $10. We don't know if the buyer has even paid yet... That's what i'd do if i was a dealer. Surely his reputation is worth more than $500? I'd like to hear what other dealers on here would do in the same situation. If you accidentally sold a boot way over the odds, would you reiburse the buyer when you realised your mistake (or only if you thought your name would be splattered all over soul source? ). Let's hear from the dealers. Matt Link to comment Social source share

Dave Moore
The problem here is that Joe (Fosland), was made aware of the problem and ignored well intended expert advice. Forums like this are paramount in exposing these "errors" and I for one am more than happy to point out the mistakes and give dealers the benefit of the doubt. These boots are turning up here now. I've even had the JM Bootleg Guide thrust under my nose as "justification". Most US dealers however, when aware of the true status of these crappy things, will either relist/cancel the item/withdraw it from sale. Here's the REAL issue, he didn't. And, for all we know may well have scammed some poor punter out of a considerable wad of dosh! No other word for it. Thievery! Plain and simple. Hence, with all respect to any Bhudist listees, needs a cloutin'. If however, Fosland has the integrity to return the cash, cancel the transaction and relist the shite for what it is then of course his need for a cloutin' will recieve my full and undivided reconsideration. Question? Say, for instance, this happened at a 'niter what would ensue? Regards, Dave https://www.hitsvillesoulclub.com/ Link to comment Social source share
