brianr5358 Posted May 7, 2012 Posted May 7, 2012 Hi PPL I once had 'My Idea of Soul' published in BLUES & SOUL magazine and here I am 40 years later trying to find which issue it was published in. I think it would possibly be between issues 110 (Jan '73) to 163 (Jan'75) --- Does anyone collect BLUES & SOUL Mags who could look at these issues to see if 'My Idea of Soul' was by BRIAN ROBINSON. I know its a long shot, but WatCanITellYou..I'm just a sentimental old fool Haha. If anyone wants issues 149,152,155,156,159,161,164,167,168,170, I can send them you for free. Cheers.
Mike Lofthouse Posted May 7, 2012 Posted May 7, 2012 I'll have a look for you Brian. Was reading a few of those MIOS columns the other week - saw Ian Dewhirst's - interesting read
brianr5358 Posted May 7, 2012 Author Posted May 7, 2012 Very much appreciated. I know MIOS wasn't featured every issue because in the ten issues I have available , its in only one... So if Paul Budworth from Beeston, Notts is looking for his MIOS , come on down!! I have it in Volume 155 !!

dthedrug Posted May 8, 2012 Posted May 8, 2012 :hatsoff2:HI BRIAN BLUES & SOUL #118 HAS YOUR WRITE UP, PAGE 23
Paul R Posted May 8, 2012 Posted May 8, 2012 (edited) That's quite a coincidence. I bought this edition from ebay last year(only a couple of quid). I had lent it to someone years ago and never got it back. It nearly had my big mention in it!!. Frank Elson visited my local soul night at Burscough Football Club. one of the DJs Geoff Cheatham introduced Frank to me as a 15 year old soul boy!. I was promosed a namecheck. All I got was a line saying "Nor do you get scorned if you happen to be only 15). Oh well I didn't get my 15 seconds od fame!!. I think also it was the first advert for the Casino in this edition. Some great tracks listed in the adverts, including an oldies night at the Pendulum. Paul Just checked there's a copy here https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Billy-Preston-Blues-Soul-Iss-118-1973-Donny-Hathaway-Earth-Wind-Fire-/290707631792?pt=UK_Magazines&hash=item43af866eb0 sorry for th Edited May 8, 2012 by Paul r
soulpaul0 Posted May 8, 2012 Posted May 8, 2012 well robbo have you kept everyone? 73-75 and you mention overplayed records good to see nothing changes
brianr5358 Posted May 12, 2012 Author Posted May 12, 2012 Absolutely amazin!! I need to thank you soulies sooo much. The original article was published in volume 118 covering I think 24 April to 07 MAY 1973, and 39 years later to the month in MAY 2012, it took just one day for someone, namely DTHEDRUG to find it and publish it on line for me to read. I cant thank you enough Dave - really. I had a proper 'Fly Fishing' by J. R. H a r t l e y moment. Hehe The irony is it took me 2 years from joining Soulsource to even ask the question because (a) I didnt think anyone would have it and (b) I didnt think anyone would take the trouble to look!! Forgive me please for that and as the search has been so successful, I've decided to start looking for that couple a grand bag of fivers I lost in 1975 and a second bag I misplaced around '79. As ya know it was worth a lot more then so I 'm expecting to be really rich by about lunchtime tomorrow. Not... Haha well robbo have you kept everyone? 73-75 and you mention overplayed records good to see nothing changes D'ya know what Paul... Yes I have. I still have every single record now, that I had then. Maybe its the nearest I can get to reliving the past because whilst every record holds the song anyone can hear, only I hold the memory it brings so dear. Told ya I was a sentimental old fool in ma first post dint I !!!! Should I clean em up an sell em?? Haha Cheers Guys, much appreciated.
dthedrug Posted May 12, 2012 Posted May 12, 2012 HI ALL Thanks for the positive remarks, personally I ftnd great solis in SOULSOURCE, and have got to meet people through the pages of the site, at times it reminds me of the early days at WIGAN when I had no transport, and how har it was getting to by thumbing a lift, but once there, no matter what my needs were, from complete strangers, that I had just met, I never needed to feel that, by asking was pointless, I have had people come and give me records, and I have said whats that for? and been told "I had 2 and you did me a favour" that is all part of the scene, and it costs nothing most of the time to make someone happy? HAPPY DAYS WITH GREAT MEMORIES, UNDER THE BANNER OF THE NORTHERN SOUL SCENE, DAVE
