Guest allnightandy Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 (edited) Should get some interesting selections Oh! And YOU have to OWN the records you choose ! It has to be your best set as you will be judged for a DJ of the year award at the end (Hypothetically speaking) Edited May 6, 2012 by allnightandy

Ernie Andrews Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 Yes your right Carla - sorry! Dont know if a different take will have to get an issue copy to find out!
Guest Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 can i have an imaginary loan please Andy before i start. think that should be a yes seeing athough it was my idea. and hey, i can always slip you an imaginary back hander.
Guest Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 p.s if i can't have loan, think you should limit the 12 record budget to a grand, that would make it more interesting and give us peasants a chance 1
John Reed Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 Sadly, let the dick swinging contest begin. So how many big records can a person show off in one set. 2
Guest dundeedavie Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 I wouldn't do the gig unless I knew and liked the person running it
Ernie Andrews Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 Well the list I did none are over 300 quid and if you take Jimmy Delphs 15 quid Independent movement 15 quid Mines not a dick swinging list! Gene Willis /Jimmy Pendleton and Bonnie lee I havnt a clue what they are worth - I bought them because I love them!
Guest allnightandy Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 (edited) Sadly, let the dick swinging contest begin. So how many big records can a person show off in one set. Nothing to do with dick swinging , just tells you what people would play and what they think people would listen too ! Edited May 6, 2012 by allnightandy
Guest allnightandy Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 i hear theres a free bar. any news on that loan yet... Right you can double deck with a DJ of your choice , That's one that actually owns some records LoL
Guest allnightandy Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 Seeings as I don't own any rare records am I allowed to play ? Swifty Fire away !
Guest allnightandy Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 I wouldn't do the gig, you can't do a good set with 12 tunes. Some of the gigs i see advertised on here the DJ's only get half an hour i was limiting it to 12 because if you don't , the lists would get longer and longer and the Dick swinging would begin ! somebody would list his/her whole collection and say "i'll pick my set from these !"
Russ Vickers Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 Nothing about rareity in the original post, so why the problem....post ya set, its about good record innit ? Russ 1

Len Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 (edited) I'm gonna be professional and get to this 'event' early doors so I can hear what everyone else plays first....I'll post a play list in a few days I think this thread starter (allnightandy) means well by this thread and I don't think for one moment he wanted anyone to start putting their 'most expensive' records up. I do understand the comments made ref this being a chance for people to 'show off' though as unfortunately that's the world we live in now ain't it? But this thread could work if treated correctly I expect there's also another 'event' like this just down the road clashing on the same night! By the way, where's the nearest train station? All the best, Len. Edited May 6, 2012 by LEN
Guest dundeedavie Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 probably...seems you got time to waste also fella ..no rock and roll but then again i suppose no northern soul either Oh I certainly do ... looking through the lists so far i didn't see any Rock 'n' Roll I knew it couldn't have been aimed at me 'cos I've never played a R'n'R record in my life
Amsterdam Russ Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 Wow, it's difficult coming up with even just 12 tunes. To save on the brain-ache, I selected from iTunes the tracks on my computer that have been played the most under the genre of 'Soul'. That seems to be the most convincing selection. They are: 12: Beverly Shaffer - Where will you be (One-derful) 11. Marva Whitney - Ball of fire (King) 10. Cam Cameron - They say (Capri) 9. Liz Lands - Midnight Johnny (Gordy) 8. Johnny McCall - I need you (Al-teen) 7. Barbara Mercer - Call on me (Sidra) 6. A possibly unreleased popcorn thing that impresses only me 5. September Jones - I'm coming home (Kapp) 4. San Francisco TKO's - Make up your mind (Kent) 3. Big Maybelle - I got a feelin' (Okeh) 2. Jimmy Robins - I can't please you (who cares what label) 1. The Townsmen - Please don't say goodbye (Columbia) There you go, no dick swinging, no big hitters, just the tunes that have been played the most through my computer since its count began!
Guest Gogs Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 Ok i've just checked my mobile for my most played tracks so i will go with those Don covey - A little bit hurt Millie Jackson- House for sale Howard Tate - Baby i love you Paulette Parker- (gimmie back) My love Spiral Starecase- Baby what i mean Impressions - I'll always be here Jerry Butler- Moody woman Della Reese - A clock that's got no hands Herman Griffin- Are you for me or against me Fred Hughes- Baby boy Little Antony - Better use your head Terry Callier- Ordinary joe But so far only managed to get 200 on to my phone so lots more to go.

Quinvy Posted May 7, 2012 Posted May 7, 2012 i wish phil.... then i could afford to buy some right tackle All joking aside, big boy [sorry] the Richard Caiton I have only ever been offered for sale once. And I've never even seen the Debbie Curtis 45 at all, ever.
Guest Brooky Posted May 7, 2012 Posted May 7, 2012 (edited) The 'Dick Swinger' comment made me laugh ....not heard that expression before. (Yes, I probably should get out more!!!) Still laughing here....'Dick Swingers'.....love it!!!! Anyway....as the thread author asked..............and in this order.........NOT 'best set' in terms of cost of records (no one would do a set of the most expensive records they owned for the sake of it surely) ........ .........as a dancer I would love this set....that usually means at least a few others will too!!!. Oh alright....I'd win hands down!!!!!!!!!! Edited May 7, 2012 by Brooky 2

Quinvy Posted May 7, 2012 Posted May 7, 2012 I have always prefered the Debbie Curtis version, typical as the Juan Williams seems to have turned up on ebay.
tosspot Posted May 7, 2012 Posted May 7, 2012 I played Debbie Curtis at Pure Soul on Saturday , I've always preferred this version 1
