JOE TORQUAY Posted May 2, 2012 Posted May 2, 2012 (edited) Four Tops Since You've Been Gone C/w Standing In The Shawdows Of Love 100% Holland - Dozier - Holland session. The A-side being a timeless Motown classic that captures "The Tops" again punching out those inimitable vocal though chock-a-block string propelled production. Much more importantly is the flipside carries "The Tops" in Northern Soul voice! Enter the mighty drum roll, smacks into Levi's barrage of soul! The H D H trio again unleash a production capable of staying with the 4. Punchy drum, horns, a subtle Mike Terry style saxophone purrs away with the constant jingling vibes; The intensive rhythm is then alleviated by perhaps Motown greatest ever SAX BREAK! What a tune - on the back of a classic too. This rare DEMO is in fine condition but do scrutinize the A-side label scan there is a faded time of 2.38 and RAM written on the centerpiece, almost invisible. The rest of the disc is flawless. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 130.00 Solomon Burke Cry To Me Consider this 50 year old Soul - Anthem! What are the chances of acquiring this as an original PROMO. Not easy: What are the chances of acquiring this PROMO in pristine, flawless immaculate condition. near impossible: One for the PROMO collectors who demand perfection and just know they're are unlikely to encounter it again. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 500.00 Nat The Cool Cat (i Love You) With All Of My Heart C/w Come By Here Nat The Cool Cat = Nat Anderson. None the wiser? Well neither am I - but I do know I love OBSCURE! Especially if the needle-drop reveals a snarling vocal entangled in all manner of partyin' brass n guitar. Growling, horns & bluesy plectrum blend into a crude but compelling ground-level rarity of 60s RB Dance; with the flipside delivering a similar style with the same passion, we feel this serious rarity has huge potential for intimateNS club late night head-turning. One for those who dig beyond the obvious. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 91.00 Ronnie Mcneir Sitting In My Class C/w Isn't She A Pretty Girl I recently had the honor of DJing at the "Copper Tops Club" in Worcester. As I walked in, spinning on the decks was no ordinary "heard a 1000 times" Northern Soul oldie but to buzzing dancefloor - Ronnie McNeir's - Isn't She A Pretty Girl - was resounding around the heated atmosphere. An imaginative flipside spin from time-served DJ John Farrar. How good did this sound through those imposing speakers...I knew I was in for a good night. But if you play the a-side the really unforgettable nights, those branded in your memory forever flash before your eyes. The school bell rings and Cleethorpes Pier shakes as Soul Sam fingers twitch erratically over the console controls, a quiver n' shake of the arms, a swing of the hips - and Soul Sam is doing his now famous "top-half" DJ-dancing, only reserved for the vinyl-magnificent. This Detroit double helping of Northern Soul does magnificent twice over. and this copy is Mint - totally flawless in every respect! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 711.00 Edited May 2, 2012 by JOE TORQUAY

So fantastic was this Los Angeles discovery, that it was bootlegged within weeks of being found. A listen to soundfile and you will easily understand the uncontrolled excitement of the counterfeiter as he just knew this would be a monster! Unfortunately the flood of the far to early "boots" soured it's simultaneous but brief turntable-life at Wigan Casino & Cleethorpes Pier. Now residing only in the most-complete and finest of Northern Soul collections is this truly exceptional and ridiculously rare 45. Leaving us to ponder of the heights it could have reached if the "outlaw" in L.A. had been a little more patient. A stand-out tune with a rarity pedigree second to none, and in condition you can only dream of finding in 2012. Sorry, this item has already been won! Flip rips it up raw - again featuring Memphis horns cradle Eddie's finely tuned vocal, a Bluff City Northern Soul stroller featuring a killer sax break and a fluid vocal-group chorus. JOE TORQUAY Posted May 2, 2012 Author Posted May 2, 2012 Little Jimmy Scott It Rained 40 Days & Nights C/w Do You Get The Message One of many Joshie Jo Armstead collaborations with Mike Terry that gave birth to stand-out Northern Soul. Top side is perhaps Joshie's finest example as a wordsmith. A record that Garland Green also had the pleasure of singing. Little Jimmy Scott's take is 100 x rarer and carries a more expressive delivery. Flip it over and it's double-NS-delight! An ooh-so-potent Chicago Northern Soul shaker, vibrantly-raw unpolished session that just rips-it-up! NB "Do You Get The Message" was NOT issued on Jimmy's Giant 708 release. Be aware of the eye-popping condition - two perfect vinyls, two flawless labels. The winning bid was £ 393.00 Fluffy Falana My Little Cottage (by The Sea) This Robert L. Martin creation started life as a mysterious Wigan Casino secret sound for Richard Searling, who not for the first time used the writers name for his intriguing NS teasers; ie "Eddie Jason" for The Wakefield Sun monster. Richard Searling certainly added mystic as well as quality to his sets of carefully selected spins. This Philly flipside just spews everything the Casino was at it's height! An instant dance-inciting experience as Bobby Martin flexes his studio skills crafting relentless Northern Soul, filled with all the ingredients Bobby would use on his multitude of his Philadelphia session. This example for me, is his ""pi¨ce de rsistance". Sorry, this item has already been won! Hiroshi Suzuki your choice of track listing creates a soul experience with every track a harmony winner flowing from one peak to another. Consider a one-sitting gourmet serving of 9 tracks by Brief Encounter, 2 tracks by Allison, 2 tracks by Imperial Wonders, 2 tracks from Continental Showstoppers fastidiously chosen by a man who really knows his soul. The soundfile gives you a small porthole to the album's immense quality - but goes nowhere near to the sublime experience i've just had whilst reviewing 15 tracks from Sweet Soul Heaven... JOE TORQUAY Posted May 2, 2012 Author Posted May 2, 2012 Bobby Goldsboro Too Many People The late Northern Soul DJ Nev Wherry was the main-man championing theRARE British release Northern Soul. Making this Bobby Goldsboro stomper a Cleethorpes monster! Such was the demand the bootleggers combed theUSA for a copy - there is NO USA 45 release. So they used Bobby Goldsboro's USA United Artist 91024 "Blue Autumn" lp track - wrong again it's a wishy-washy inferior version. So, even after that ridiculous bootleg Nev with his signature smile spun his Green & White 1967 UK DEMO it became Cleethorpes & Wigan Casino monster. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 103.00 Billy Stewart Summertime C/w To Love, To Love Words fail me. Where do you begin when portraying the qualities of Billy Stewart. A unique vocal presented on a unique disc!! - this is perhaps the one and only copy - an authentic 1966 PYE STUDIO ACETATE cut for the UK CHESS8040 release in flawless condition, with direct cut clarity that out-strips the vinyl Chess offspring. AWESOME in more ways than one! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 275.00 Charles Abdul-khaliq Corner Boy Upbeat twangy guitar rhythm provides the impetus for Charles to harness his vocal to, serving a fine and totally obscure 1982 California dancer. Jim G Posted May 2, 2012 Posted May 2, 2012 SOLOMON BURKE!!!! NO WAY............ Ex copy went on eBay for £47 last week, £ 500 WTF!!
Guest giant Posted May 3, 2012 Posted May 3, 2012 a big nut case has paid £500 for SOLOMON BURKE a £40 pounds record EVERY DAY OF THE WEEK not even rare or very good.
Pete S Posted May 3, 2012 Posted May 3, 2012 We just need to remember that these are auctions and anything can happen. What I hate is the day after when someone else puts one of the auction items up for set sale at the same price as the auction. Most auction prices end at double the 'real' price.
boba Posted May 3, 2012 Posted May 3, 2012 a big nut case has paid £500 for SOLOMON BURKE a £40 pounds record EVERY DAY OF THE WEEK not even rare or very good. it was his biggest hit, wasn't it? I think it's a pretty good song. Obviously many copies were sold and promoed though.
