Dave Harrison Posted May 3, 2012 Posted May 3, 2012 (edited) Sorry Dave, but "David Ruffin - I wanna be with you" is on a 45 (WB49577) ..........and in my box! A great record it is too ! Cheers Dave Here's a few of my faves. I'm quite sure they're all LP only but will stand corrected if somebody knows different: Al Wilson - 50/50 William Bell - Relax The O'Jays - Let Life Flow David Ruffin - I Wanna Be With You Edited May 3, 2012 by Dave Harrison
Mal C Posted May 3, 2012 Posted May 3, 2012 (edited) One that gets missed allot is Major lance - I Never Thought (I'd Be Losing You) and Love Pains from his Now Arriving LP, got a nice British Motown demo of the LP which carried a nice pic of the Major as apposed to the strange red carpet on the yank release. Another that gets missed allot is the Aussie only Sue Barker release, basically a jazz funk LP, with a really nice version of Groovin, but 'Love to the People' is very nice, sounds like Curtis Mayfield song to me , I'd have to check when I get home. Marlena Shaw's Acting up has the very nice 'I'm back for More' LP only again.. Mal.C. here's that special carpet Edited May 3, 2012 by Mal.C.

John Reed Posted May 3, 2012 Posted May 3, 2012 (edited) I really like the Turner Brothers - Sweetest Thing In The World and I dont think that got released on a 7" Another one I'm unsure if released as a single is Soul Explosion - We Gonna Make It, such a great tune, but nothing to do with the dance floor. Liljimmycrank Posted May 3, 2012 Posted May 3, 2012 Someone mentioned 'Dont you care' by Alice Clark, but 'Never did i ever stop loving you' tops that for me, same album. Ralph Graham - Aint no need Odyssey - battened ships All great 70's LP only tracks. There are plenty out there. Oh, and don't forget current soul band Al Supersonic & The Teenagers.......They've put a couple of 45's out, but their LP "we're not too young" is superb!! 1
Guest Phantom janitor Posted May 3, 2012 Posted May 3, 2012 (edited) David Ruffin - "Questions" off the "In my stride" Album Love Committee "Tired of being your fool" of their Goldmind album Edited May 3, 2012 by Phantom janitor
Mister Fish Posted May 3, 2012 Posted May 3, 2012 I don't want to be a killjoy but all these have had 45 (re) issues: Bobby Hutton - Lend a hand (ABC) clydene Jackson (Joe Boy) rhetta hughes - cry myself to sleep (shotgun) gene townsel (crazy beat) sidney joe quails - i dont do this (expansion) alice clark - dont you care (acid jazz) 1

If someone played one of the above out on a re-issued 45 from recent days when you had the orig lp in your box ready to play, you wouldn't be happy?? Just like if someone did the same with orig 45's. Not wanting to drag out an old argument of OVO but the re-issues of those 45's shouldn't change the fact that they're LP only tracks in my opinion 1
Chris L Posted May 3, 2012 Posted May 3, 2012 Spellbinders - Self defense Spellbinders - The way you make me feel.
Steve Plumb Posted May 3, 2012 Posted May 3, 2012 Here's a few of my faves. I'm quite sure they're all LP only but will stand corrected if somebody knows different: Al Wilson - 50/50 William Bell - Relax The O'Jays - Let Life Flow David Ruffin - I Wanna Be With You Ruffin's on a 45 Dave, albeit quite a hard one to find! Great choices as always though mate Cheers Steve
Chris L Posted May 3, 2012 Posted May 3, 2012 For some reason I thought "Tell me it's just a rumor" came out on either Indian or Israeli TM as a single

Not wanting to drag out an old argument of OVO but the re-issues of those 45's shouldn't change the fact that they're LP only tracks in my opinion I think the arguement in this case is relevant. I for one didn't think we were talking about scene specific reissues but the original release and the only legit way to own when released before the tailor made scene reissue.
MrsWoodsrules Posted May 3, 2012 Posted May 3, 2012 Theres a blue eyed album by Tina Mason I like called You Go Your Way, I think some of those tracks never got cut as singles, long time since i heard it to be honest, I know she did Finders Keepers on a single but pretty sure some other good stuff on that never got released. Aid.
Mick Sway Posted May 3, 2012 Posted May 3, 2012 Here's a stormer that I can never make up my mind about, certainly sound a little "Casino". Very reminiscent to me of the Harvey Averne Dozen's "Think It Over" ( along with "wishing & hoping" also LP only- as far as I know). Album also includes "walk in my shoes", which as most know is a down tempo version of the Gladys tune. Bruce Cloud "Why can't I be born again!" Capitol "California Soul" LP:
Illusive Posted May 3, 2012 Posted May 3, 2012 (edited) Guessing we can open this thread up to some recent(ish) soul too? In which case here's one from last year that sees Betty Wright still in top form I think... Cracking CD album from Betty and a bargain buy on Amazon for less than 8 quid. Sjclement Posted May 4, 2012 Author Posted May 4, 2012 (edited) Sorry but this not LP only. This is on a Balance Town 45 and of course on a re-issued Crazy Beat 45. Here's a link to the LP only thread from last year. It ran for 7 pages. Don't think either the Balance Town or (definitely) the Crazy Beat 45 came out anywhere near the release date of the album,1978, according to Colin Dilnott's article the album was under promoted and very few copies saw the light of day therefore issuing a single at the time seems unlikely. Gene Townsel still has the master tapes but does not have a copy of his own album, I'm not sure but if you check his website the album may be available on cd from the man himself. Roburt Posted May 4, 2012 Posted May 4, 2012 Betty Wright has been putting out great 45s for almost 45 years now ....... She proves that its still possible for an 'ol skool' soul singer to cut good new tracks & be successful. 2
Guest Posted May 8, 2012 Posted May 8, 2012 Can't let this thread go without mentioning three supergems (all on you tube) Originals - Don't Stop Now Garland Green - I've Quit Runnin' The Streets Anthony White - Stop and Think It Over Bobby Taylor - Don't Be Afraid is mentioned already but is right up there with the best of them.
