Premium Stuff Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 (edited) Had a long problem with a US eBay seller who was charging double post etc. as a rip off (posted something previously about this). Anyway, tried an eBay live chat on it tonight to see if I could sort it that way. It's disgraceful. Here's the whole thing so you can see how truly bad and useless it was - complete f*cking waste of time. It is a totally random process and I guess the people are dealing with a dozen or even many more issue at one time. The daft bit that stands out to me is " I am a specialist specifically with issues related to General Support" so they could not handle it ansd had to hand me on to someone else. Is it me - if so please just tell me ... Cheers Richard ME Hi Rose Jackson Welcome to eBay Live Help, my name is Rose. How may I help you? ME I have an issue about a long standing case where postage from US to UK was double that noted in item description ME Hi Rose ME hello Rose Jackson Yes Rose Jackson Ai m right here. ME I have an issue about a long standing case where postage from US to UK was double that noted in item description - can you help please? Rose Jackson Can you please provide me the item number for the same. ME 170791936596 Rose Jackson Thank you. Rose Jackson While I am looking into this for you, do you have any other concern that you would like to share during this chat session? ME yes please, the postage was around double that in the item description Rose Jackson Okay, so you wish to report the seller. ME I raised the issue with the seller and it has taken around a month and he hasn't taken my issues on board - and tried previously to cancel the sale ME i just want an invoice for postage that reflects the original item description please Rose Jackson As I am a specialist specifically with issues related to General Support, I will need to refer you to another specialist to address your concern. May I go ahead and connect you now? ME ok Rose Jackson Has transferred you to:Sharon Manning Sharon Manning Welcome to eBay Live Chat, my name is Sharon. Please give me a minute or two to review what you have discussed with the previous representative. ME thank you ME This is my original message to the seller ages ago: ME the original mesaage:Hi there Randy Just a quick query on shipping charges. Hope you don't mind me asking. My understanding regarding shipping on this item was that (because it sold to a non-US Buyer for $50-$120) you would ship it Registered Mail but you would pay $4.25 of the $11.75 Registered Mail Fee. Leaving me to pay the difference of $7.5. I did not expect a further $7.00 on top of that and I can't see any mention of that extra in the listing. Would you be able to ship for the $7.50 originally stated and issue me a replacement invoice please? Best regards Richard ME hello! ME hello are you there? Sharon Manning I apologise for the wait, as we experienced some technical difficulties a moment ago. ME this is not a good experience with eBay ME I now wish to raise a complaint please! Sharon Manning I'm sorry to hear that you're unhappy with this situation. ME do something then please - information is above Sharon Manning Richard, I'm having a hard time looking into the item number of the said transaction. Sharon Manning Also, may I ask if you've contacted the seller about this/ ME i have had many contacts with the seller over the last month. The basis point is the postage was twice that listed as in my copy of my original note here: Hi there Randy Just a quick query on shipping charges. Hope you don't mind me asking. My understanding regarding shipping on this item was that (because it sold to a non-US Buyer for $50-$120) you would ship it Registered Mail but you would pay $4.25 of the $11.75 Registered Mail Fee. Best regards Richard ME come on Sharon - this is useless Sharon Manning I'm currently looking for the item number, as this will be easier for me to investugate your complaint further. ME it's above!!!!!!!!! ME Here!!!!!!!!!!! ME 170791936596 Sharon Manning Thanks for the item number. Sharon Manning After a careful review on our system, I can assure you that keeping eBay a safe and reputable place to buy and sell is our top priority as this is essential to the future of our business. We respond to every report that we receive and, if necessary, take appropriate action against members' accounts. Sharon Manning However, you mentioned that you paid for the item, am I correct? ME no Sharon Manning What do you mean by no. You didn't pay? ME i raised a legitimate issue with the seller about double postage costs. He has not really responded positively. Several conversations have been outside ebay via email. I have still not got an answer about the double postage. ME That is what I want to know from you please ME sorry - did return - is double postage - given the item description OK or not please? Sharon Manning Be informed that seller is responsible for determining the postage and packaging charges on their listings. Sharon Manning However, this should be stated on the lsitings clearly. Sharon Manning They may not ask for additional postage that wasn;t on their listing. ME exactly - can you give me a conclusion on this case given the item description above? Sharon Manning As I can see your seller has stated their postage fee clearly. However, you did the right thing, which was ask a question regarding this. Sharon Manning It's unfortunate that you haven't reached an amicable agreement with thes eller. ME this is no help ME The postage on the invoice was signIficantly higher than on the item descrioption ME here look! ME My understanding regarding shipping on this item was that (because it sold to a non-US Buyer for $50-$120) you would ship it Registered Mail but you would pay $4.25 of the $11.75 Registered Mail Fee. Leaving me to pay the difference of $7.5. I did not expect a further $7.00 on top of that and I can't see any mention of that extra in the listing. Sharon Manning I've now accessed the invoice sent by your seller. Sharon Manning In view of this matter, let me assure you that we've taken appropriate action against this member. Sharon Manning As I can see that your seller can no longer file an Unpaid Item case on your account for this transaction, you're no longer obliged to pay or contact the seller further. ME i want the item at the original price and postage please Sharon Manning I understand that you want the item. However, eBay can't force the seller to sell you the item. We can just take the necessary action in order for them to learn a valuable lesson in upholding their contract as sellers on eBay. This, in return, will prevent them from this kind of practice in the future. ME i also want the option - regardless of timescales to give negative feedback please ME that makes no sense - please contact them and ask them to sell to me at the original price and stated postage Sharon Manning As the listing has ended last 4 March, you can still leave feedback for this transaction. Sharon Manning Please understand that eBay cannot establish contact with a member on another member's behalf because we also have limitations to adhere to.We can only make suggestions as to how you might resolve the situation together. Sharon Manning We have a User Agreement and a set of policies that outline what we expect from our members. ME that is rubbish Sharon Manning I'm sory to hear that you feel that way. Sharon Manning I'm just concerned, are we still connected? Sharon Manning If I don't have a response from you shortly, I'll have to close the chat session. Sharon Manning Thank you for using eBay Live Chat. Have a great night. Chat Session Ended, Goodbye. (5010) Edited April 25, 2012 by Premium Stuff
boba Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 it seems like an item that you wanted, I don't see the point of fighting over a few dollars. I would have paid it and then asked for a refund in line with the description. If I got no response I would open up a paypal claim for overcharging on shipping (at least that used to be an option). I'd imagine the seller would do an immediate refund of the extra shipping and if not paypal will get it back anyways. Then, if you care enough, you can negative him. 2
Guest JJMMWGDuPree Posted April 26, 2012 Posted April 26, 2012 Me too. I'd have paid first, then reclaimed from Paypal after the item was dispatched. If you're a good customer they cough up without too much trouble. But the problems you had with the live-chat agent are pretty much par for the course in my experience I'm afraid. I always compose a summary of my problem before contacting them and save it, then when they say "How can I help you today?" I just press Ctrl-V and they wonder how I can type so fast After that I just sit patiently and only put finger to keyboard to answer specific questions. It probably doesn't make any difference to the outcome, but at least they don't mark me as a problem customer at the end of it.
boba Posted April 26, 2012 Posted April 26, 2012 ebay email support is also all form letters. to get anywhere with ebay (or most services) you have to call and talk to a real person.
Guest john s Posted April 27, 2012 Posted April 27, 2012 to get anywhere with ebay you have to call and talk to a real person. and they've normally been pretty good and helpful whenever I've done that
Premium Stuff Posted April 27, 2012 Author Posted April 27, 2012 Great tips guys - thank you Thing is I can't even pay it on eBay as the payment button goes after 30 days or so. You live an learn I guess. How much does the eBay phone help cost anyone please - it is OK or a rip-off? Thanks Richard
Mustang Posted April 27, 2012 Posted April 27, 2012 (edited) Some Ebay sellers from any country never learn !!!,if they have messed up calculating the postage costs they should make up the difference for you. Two reasons for this : 1.It is their fault and should never blame or deceive the buyer. 2.If they have any common sense they say sorry my fault and it's in the post for you.For a few extra dollars to them they get in return positive feedback and a customer who will buy from them again because they are honest and reliable, which in lay mans terms is what Ebay buyers want,it's not hard really. I know this because i have made some miscalculations on postage and i have paid the extra because it was my fault not the buyer. My advice for your pride is F*** them off and report them and don't pay anything,it will cost them in listing fees so they will lose out anyway. I am sure you will find another item of equal quality and possibly a better price with a seller who is more reputable,i have bought records from the states without any trouble at all,you have just been unlucky this time, the vast majority are fine.
