Guest j a c k o Posted December 15, 2005 Posted December 15, 2005 hi Just had a couple of items on ebay for sale. This is what i think happened. Shortly before the end of the auction, both items were bid on by a French bidder with zero feedback, different new ids and different email addresses but both contact were details the same address in France. Shortly after the auction ends i get an email from a "legitimate" ebayer with 100% feedback (from France) saying he has been watching the item and saw it was "ruined" by a deadbeat bidder. He then goes on to offer to buy the record at a much reduced price, far lower than the second bidder. Could be all a coincidence but something doesn't seem right. Best Jacko

Best Jacko I collect other stuff, mostly from the states, and the Yanks call it Schill bidding. They know the seller is hit with selling fees, and just wants to move his items. The stuff I collect will often have sellers who block any bidders with less than 15 successful transactions to their account. Of course that is easily got round, but it shows the Shill bidder the seller knows what is going on. Contact the second bidder and explain. Also send all email correspondence to ebay. They are aware this goes on and can suspend their accounts.. Mikey

Mikey I got accused of Shill Bidding last year by ebay , they seemed to think I had members of my family bidding on my auction to up the bidding , jad one bastard of a job to prove them wrong even for the fact that -- I don't sell on ebay only buy, TWATS
Guest j a c k o Posted December 15, 2005 Posted December 15, 2005 Mikey It was a tough enough decision to sell the records after collecting for 25 years. To have some b****** try and rip me off has left me thinking if I made the right decision in the first place. One things for certain, if I do sell any more they ain't going on ebay. Jacko

Jacko Going through exatly the same trauma at the minute Andy. Had many many times when money has been a forgotten memory, in the past 20 odd years. Going thru another spel like this, and as I havent owned a record player for 15 years have decided it finally is time to move some stuff until things pick up. It hurts like hell. Even now a year after selling Ty Karim Lighten up, I cant listen to it. All the best with selling. Just another warning about the bidders with zero feedback. If they do actually stump up the money for the record. Make sure it is sent signed on delivery. Otherwise a grand to a penny they will claim it never arrived, and Paypal always side with the buyer in my experience. Only a signed receipt will stop the money being refunded from your account.
Mark Bicknell Posted December 15, 2005 Posted December 15, 2005 Personally as with most people Ebay hooks you when you first get involved with it, it's a bug and pretty soon you tend to spend a great deal of time and money searching for records at all hours of the day and nightr, i sold a few things on there and picked up some nice records at a reasonable price a couple of years ago until i was stung for about £80.00 paid via Pay Pal i might add, and guess what nothing back, no redress what so ever, Ebay are not interested in cleaning their act up or rather the methods of some people who use the service, to be honest despite the fact that there are some very nice records on there still i have not been on there for ages and have little or no interest in it. It seems to me that almost on a daily basis someone is at it on there and it leaves a very nasty taste in the mouth, so as with Jocko perhaps the old fashioned way of collecting and selling is by far the best way....remember Soul Bowl's list dropping through the letter box and the scramble to get on the phone, first come first served fantastic fun. Ebay is a cold and often empty way to chase and sell tunes, yes you can pick up some bargains, but with all the bad press i would think that there is always going to be a major doubt in peoples minds when bidding on records, with the thought of is this one gonna rip me off, the whole ethos of collecting records is based on trust and i feel there is little or no trust with some people who play Ebay, bid snipe, false bidding and all the other crap that goes with this menace is a minefield for fraud and deception. Ebay need to tighten and clean up their act FFS they make enough money from fee's. Pay Pal etc. anyone caught out should be made public and banned for life from trading on there it's that simple. Regards - Mark Bicknell.
