Maureen Bailey

Takin' My Time With You

Uplifting goes nowhere near to describing this most enjoyable dance-indie.

The late Maureen Bailey flits in and out of a shower of flute, strings and a shrill girl chorus creating an overall effect of exhilarating well being.

This is exactly how a rare-soulful-dance tune should affect you. Changing your mood and no matter where you are - lets dance!

FABULOUS! and very hard to come by.

Ernie & Ed

Indication C/w Beautiful World

UK only, as Walter Stone never bothered to release this San Francisco double hitter from the highly esteemed pairing of Eddie Campbell & Ernie Johnson on his Loadstone label.

In 1972 President Records UK gave it a brief un-promoted release, thus another Northern Soul collectible drew breath.

The most popular side is a mighty Northern Soul romp as the duo bounce off each other like the old friends they are, "indication" has and will continue to shake the dance-floors of Northern England.

But in more recent time it's it's the beautiful and precisely served "Beautiful World" that is catching the DJ's attention. Northern Soul crossover at it's smoothest.

Heywood Cash

You're Messing Up A Good Thing C/w Give It Up

How ridiculously difficult is it to acquire these 70s STOCK that harbor uttering fantastic flip sides, than the easier to locate PROMO copies don't!

This 1976 Muscle Shoals session even spawned a ridiculously rare Epic promo 12" but neither th 45 or the 12" promo had "You're Messing Up A Good Thing" on the flip.

Another Alabama Terry Woodford & Clayton Ivy collaboration crafts a soul jewel. String and Haywood's rap is a calm before the storm, as Mr. Cash suddenly punches through the tranquil intro and delvers a finely tuned dancer of the highest order. The lead vocal effortlessly stretches the boundaries of soul throughout with the girl group chorus adding the final touches to what is a giant of it genre!

Flip it over - that's pretty good too..just right for the funkier inclined moment.

Danse A La Musique

Whilst preparing for the Manchester Ritz Reunion All Dayer I pulled this classic dance-floor destroyer from the shelves and immediately sparked a feeling of meeting an old friend I hadn't seen for quite some time.

Upon checking the condition, my thoughts turned to, how easy is it to actually acquire a Mint - copy these days? Our files suggest, darn difficult, especially with two perfect labels and vinyl which has NOT seen a Northern Soul DJbefore me.

A classic that will surely once again be well received well by those who frequented those hallowed venues of The Ritz, Cheethorpes Pier, Notts Palais etc back in the hot summer f 1976.

Spinners

I'll Always Love You C/w Tomorrow May Never Come

Note this is the WITHDRAWN TMG 523 crediting THE SPINNERS almost immediately taken off the shelves and replaced by copies crediting theDETROIT SPINNERS.

To avoid confusion with the already established British folk group of the same name. Thus another TMG artifact was born.

This copy is an unblemished, staggeringly clean copy, if you atempting to fill the 500 series or upgrading you're unlikely to encounter a finer copy.

Condition is, to the nth degree is.
  • TWO totally perfect labels - a-side vinyl carries 2 light surface scuffs (listen to the double-sound lifted directly off this impossible disc) after the loan booming bass intro it plays clean and true. The equally captivating B-side vinyl has a couple of smaller light marks and plays clean clear & true. Visually a-side vg+ flip Ex sound fidelity you can hear and judge yourself.

NOTE: Fortunately this disc has NOT been polished or renovated in any way. It is "as is" and it's a fine copy - that we are overjoyed to be able to present.

Bettn' On Love C/w Paint Me

It's that man again! Leonard Jewell Smith the king of the driving Northern Soul production.

We'll let the soundfile do the talking - it is after all it is incredibly potent "proper" Northern Soul.

Take a listen to L.J.S. weaves vibes, horns, male & girl vocal groups, bass guitar into a tapestry, to ignite a highly destructive dance-floor bomb!

THIS IS NORTHERN SOUL this is the original Fontana 1967 release with neat clean vinyl - label has the merest hint of "browning" scrutinize the scan! PSthe flipside "Paint Me" is Northern Soul/Fusion that could well get picked up on today by the "funkier" inclined DJ.

Regents Featuring Mel Gaines

What'cha Gonna Do C/w I Tried With You

I'm pretty sure it was the King & Queen of Manchester, Maria & Carl Willingham who championed the vocal-group Northern Soul belter - didn't they? Never a pair to pass over rarity and quality without dropping the needle on it.

So having not heard this tune in an age, I find myself more impressed now than I was back when?

It carries traits of two styles we have all grown love; Vocal and arrangement drip with that Carolina fluidity, the horns ripple with an "over-the-border" Texas accent. The mix is very effective, producing a stand-out vocal group Northern soul rarity in which the lead vocal of Melvin Gains excels.

Gallahads

I've Got T Find A Way C/w Once I Had A Love

Highly coveted and rarely seen Miles Grayson project that offers two sides to two different collectors scene of the very highest quality.

Top side is relentlessly thumpin' Los Angeles vocal group Northern Soul that benefits from it's primitive street-level influences. A huge horn intro carries on throughout, battling with the vocal group's attempts of supremacy. The incessant bombardment of raw vocals go head to head with an onslaught of brass.

Wow, this is vocal-group Northern Soul at it most-compelling!

The flip some will argument is a 60s vocal-group masterpiece, not a dance record but still full of all the undercooked characteristics of the a-side - Two wonderful examples of soul-group spontaneity and absolutely DOG-RARE

Charles Johnson

I Bet'cha Don't Know

One for the real-soul fan. Comes this Miami rare delight.

Listen how Mr. Johnson teases and tantalizes the heartstrings with his slowly smoldering desires, which he amplifies at all the right moments inducing goose-pimples that only the very finest ballads can.

This will appeal to all markets that truly appreciate SOUL, it's an immense stepper, a killer example of 70s Deep Soul but also the group harmony fans will be picking out the fleeting but subtle additional background vocal assistance.

In unison we can here a worldwide WOW! as the discerning SOUL fans listens to an outrageously RARE and truly beautiful record.

Barbara Lewis

Baby I'm Yours

The distasteful practice of adorning "White" faces on the front black artist albums, made the leap from the USA to the UK as the cover-art-work was re-used without any consideration for the artist.

In 1965 UK Decca maybe shot themselves in the foot, as the young teenagers thirst for SOUL was at it's peak, "Ken & Barbie" on this front most-likely hindered shop sales and subsequently awareness of this Princess of Soul.

Shame on you - this Detroit Diva made an audience of full-grown men unashamedly cry at Cleethorpes Weekender earlier this century...she just drips with class, soul and emotion.

Before you today is her extremely RARE plum label British Atlantic Album just littered with Detroit goodies. This was after all, for those DJ's who dug deeper in the 60s, the source of the classic "Someday We're Gonna Love Again" which had no 60s British 45 release other than the 4 track EP.

But much more importantly today - is the track that never ever saw 45 release anywhere at any time; listen to "STOP THAT GIRL" and experience a prodigious DETROIT DIVA DELIVER NORTHERN SOUL at it most delicious!
