Steve L Posted April 7, 2012 Posted April 7, 2012 My first exposure to northern was in the summer holidays of 74 at our youth club and one of the first records I've always associated with that time is The Same Old Thing instrumental by Fred Smith Orchestra. However John Manship's site has this down as a 76 pressing (which should be accurate with the delta number) Was this played on anything before Soussans pressings were sent over here? Is my memory playing tricks on me? Was it played pre 76? Any memories of this appreciated
Steve L Posted April 7, 2012 Author Posted April 7, 2012 I know its not kosher but I still think its a great instrumental 1
45cellar Posted April 7, 2012 Posted April 7, 2012 I would say 1974 Love everything about Mirwood. Including these Instrumentals. Just a shame they didn't get released. Once cycled 16 Miles after a full days work for a copy of the Vocal on Mirwood. 8 Miles There 8 Miles back. Then a while later bought it on a DEMO from Soul Bowl.Via Phone (Public Telephone Box - Dialing) Sounds easy but relies on the list arriving first post and no queues at the public phone box. Nearly wore my dialing finger out most weeks trying to get through, only to hear sorry that's gone when I eventually did.. Happy Days Though. When I think we worked blooming hard for our collection in those days. Cycling 16 Miles or Constantly Dialing trying to get through. A lot easier now-a-days with the Internet.
Steve L Posted April 7, 2012 Author Posted April 7, 2012 Jesus, I've just thought in two years that will be 40 years for me
Pete S Posted April 8, 2012 Posted April 8, 2012 He'll still insist on it being 76 despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary
Guest Posted April 8, 2012 Posted April 8, 2012 (edited) He'll still insist on it being 76 despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary Jebb was playing that at the Mecca and Burnley Cats Whiskers around 72! I should add that that is my thinking.... Edited April 8, 2012 by Guest
Steve L Posted April 8, 2012 Author Posted April 8, 2012 Can anyone post the delta number? (the soussan pressing) then we can date it?
45cellar Posted April 8, 2012 Posted April 8, 2012 My copy just has "MW-1001-A" scratched into the Vinyl.

Pete S Posted April 8, 2012 Posted April 8, 2012 OK Roger I just assumed it was a monarch pressing, so much for that theory I don't think Soussan pressed any Mirwood instrumentals after 1975.
45cellar Posted April 8, 2012 Posted April 8, 2012 OK Roger I just assumed it was a monarch pressing, so much for that theory I do have some Soul Fox with Monarch Delta. Just wondering if Same Old Thing went to a second press at Monarch. Adding to the 74 v's 76 Debate Some of the SOUL GALORE have different Label Colours etc. Thinking "Strings A Go Go" more than one run at printers / pressing plant.

Maybe, but not in 76 and not by SS, he was busy with the Billy Prophets, George Backwells, Mel Britts, Salvadors etc etc Same Old Thing just has that one, pink label pressing.
45cellar Posted April 8, 2012 Posted April 8, 2012 Must admit that's all I've ever seen, Thanks Pete.
