The more I hear it, the more I'm loving Candi Staton's You Got The Love. I'm not sure which mix I've got but it's got gorgeous stax like strings. Actually listened to the words for the first time last night and realised it's pure gospel. Might not be everyone's cup of tea, but I started to think; this is just as soulful as anything I've ever heard. Just shows that there's still soul in some modern dance music. Anyone agree?

Also stumbled on the fame studios site, if anyone's interested here's a link https://www.fame2.com

There's a good history of the studios, list of artists who've recorded there and even a rate card.

Go to the photo gallery for groovy pics like this one of Lou Rawls. Hope you like it.

The version that made the charts is the vocal of Candi Staton laid over Frankie Knuckles / Jamie Principles Your Love which is a house music classic. The orginal version of YGTL used to get play's on the Modern scene, sure I heard a few times at Rock City modern nights.

Heard a story that the YGTL was originally written for and targeted at a USA wieght watchers group ph34r.gif

I can remember this being played on the soul/modern scene with the original backing...what year is it from Byrney?

Going on my very poor memory I think around 85 - 86 Reg

I recently stumbled upon Candi Staton's 'Stand By Your Man' LP on Fame, and the track that's really getting me is "I'm Just A Prisoner (Of Your Good Lovin')". Quality tune.

The Source featuring Candi Staton 45 came out in the UK on Streetwave Khan 78 in 1986.

A. You Got The Love (Radio Edit)

B. You Got The Love (House Apella)

Was this the original version ?

If so did it get a 7" release in the USA and what was the label ?
