Guest Big Jim Slade Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 Above is the link to the song I'm inquiring about. 6 copies turned up in KC last year (my only copy isn't for trade/sale) and I was told that Hayes was the singer for the Derby's. This record is on Blue Light and it's produced by George Redman. Is this 45 rare or insanely rare? Anybody know it's value? Are people in Europe playing this out? I think it's a great record but know nothing more than what I've said above. My friend posted this on youtube, I'll try and record the other side (which is the a-side) in case people out there are interested. Comments are welcome, have at it! ATB, Big Jim Slade

boba Posted April 6, 2012 Posted April 6, 2012 I have this 45 got it about 12 years ago,i can never quite decide what i make of it.. it certainly has something and presumebly pretty rare ! I told brian sears this when he asked me before (so he probably told you) but i have a copy, dante has a copy, and i have seen two other copies for sale. Definitely rare, but there are some george redman productions that are ultra-rare.
Phild Posted April 6, 2012 Posted April 6, 2012 I have this. Picked it up from Art Morales (RIP), in Chicago about 20 years ago. Never been sure whether to play it out or not. Phil
boba Posted April 6, 2012 Posted April 6, 2012 also my copy is a blue label stock, not a promo as in the youtube video
Guest Big Jim Slade Posted April 6, 2012 Posted April 6, 2012 Yeah, I hooked Brian up with a copy last year (had to keep it in the family) as I got the last 2 from the batch of 6 that came into KC last spring. I used to have another Redman production, the Desires on Blue Light, but I traded that away as I got a bit board with it. It's a great record though. My copy of the this 45 is also blue/green, I think 2 or 3 of the 6 were blue/green, the remainder were white promos. I think it's a great record (both sides really) but it seems unknown to the extent that nobody cares. Are people looking for this, do people care? Do people in Europe know about this record at all? I wonder.

There are at least 20 records Redman produced, a few are extremely rare.

It's funny cos i've never come across a issue of the Hayes 45,most of the 45's on the label i see are in the issue format. The Desires is nice (had to play it to myself ,ain't listened to it since i bought it).Re interest in europe, maybe most aren't aware of it - although i remember selling a spare to a German dj some years ago.Always thought Lee-Vester Hayes made a great cover up artist name.....

It really didn't have the Northern sound that we were looking for at that time. I'm still not convinced that it's anything to shout about. Definitely a collection filler.
Modernsoulsucks Posted April 6, 2012 Posted April 6, 2012 It's not awful but IMO it's missing necessary ingredients to be anything more than interesting. Not a particularly memorable start. A change [for the worse] in the middle instead of a break and no back-up vocals to add some excitement. Comes across as plodding. ROD
The Tempest Posted April 6, 2012 Posted April 6, 2012 Pretty sure Colin Law use to play this out in the early / mid eighties around Scotland , will dig me tapes out , but it never really took off if memory serves ,
Robbk Posted April 6, 2012 Posted April 6, 2012 It must be rare. I've never come across it. Yes. Please upload the A-side. I'm guessing that it'll be better (at least to my taste). Rod's review is spot on. This side is definitely lacking. But some of Redman's productions are quite good. So, I'm hoping the A side is a lot better.
boba Posted April 7, 2012 Posted April 7, 2012 Pretty sure Colin Law use to play this out in the early / mid eighties around Scotland , will dig me tapes out , but it never really took off if memory serves , what is that large 12 inch looking thing on the record player? is that some sort of 45?
Dysonsoul Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 what is that large 12 inch looking thing on the record player? is that some sort of 45? There's one thing for sure Bob the 12 inch looking thing isn't Colin's cock... jock'o'conner should be able to confirm... 2
