Hi there everyone

Does anyone have any background info on Marginal Records out of Belgium?

I've recently sold one of their CDs on eBay, and it just got me wondering about the label as I hadn't heard of them before or since. All I remember is that I definitely bought the CD from Beatin' Rhythm in Manchester many years ago, and what attracted me to it was the fact that most of the tracks were b-sides / album "fillers" etc.

Just curious and nosey, that's all :)

Cheers,

Jon

Marginal was a label that issued hundreds of absolutely fantastic cd's in the 90's, unfortunately none of them were legal as far as I know. But the work that went into them was astounding for the time. I think eventually they got busted and the owner committed suicide.

isn't Tojo connected to Marginal? there is a chap trading on ebay from Belgium, who I always assumed had connections to those CDs.. as I've said, that's just what I thought..

I'm sure the Toto branding is on one of those CD's, I think Toto was a retailer of the marginal CD's or something like that..

either one of these labels did the Motown series also, I sold mine to across the tracks in Brighton in the 9ts, I still, need the full set of those CD's back...

I've got those, but not the covers - any use to you - no charge. Thats if they play, I copied them off the Marginal ones when cd recorders first came out!

I had the set of girl group cd's, about 15 or 16 volumes, awesome.

Some of the 'Soul,Soul'Soul' series were very good for early soul/R&B.

These came out on Sabam which I'm fairly sure was connected to Marginal.

I think SABAM is actually a publisher / royalty type thing, like ASCAP
