adamt Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012 Just wondering, has somebody found a bunch of Al Gardners? Seen them come up for sale a lot recently, and price dropping a lot, so wondering if a lot turned up? anybody know?
Ted Massey Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012 how many you seen then? have noticed a couple of beat up copies, Ian Cunliffe got a ridiculous price for one
adamt Posted March 26, 2012 Author Posted March 26, 2012 seen about 5 in the past week including a few mint copies for less than £500 (cheapest being a mint for £350!)
John Reed Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012 (edited) If Anglo are listing it at £350 then I wouldn't be surprised if some minters start popping out of the woodwork Edited March 26, 2012 by John Reed
Monkey Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012 think the less than minters are unconnected, however seems quite clear that Browny has got hold of more than the one
Steve Plumb Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012 how many you seen then? have noticed a couple of beat up copies, Ian Cunliffe got a ridiculous price for one Thank fook for that, i nearly bought this off Ian when i saw it in his box the other week (cue a smiley saying 'phew')
paultp Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012 I think the "less than minters" are actually the same record, it sold on ebay then was offered in sales on here. Certainly looked like the same record. I hope loads have been found then I might get a copy within my record buying budget!
Quinvy Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012 The copy on Brownies list was an absolute steal. Someone bagged a bargain there, and he hasn't got any more. 1
Dylan Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012 If Anglo are listing it at £350 then I wouldn't be surprised if some minters start popping out of the woodwork i'd agree with this most of the time but tim also lets a few goodies out at much cheaper than current market values. his list is always worth a look IMO.
Ted Massey Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012 think the less than minters are unconnected, however seems quite clear that Browny has got hold of more than the one do you know this for certain then

lorchand Posted March 27, 2012 Posted March 27, 2012 well 44 years lorraine lol although the backin track was done 2 years before Because all of you know everything, what backing track is it or to what other song? You do know I pass for 44! Lorraine
lorchand Posted March 28, 2012 Posted March 28, 2012 Got a minty one of these for $29 the other week Still think "Sweet Baby" is a tune though, would love a copy on Sepia. Forgive me for not addressing you personally, but sometimes you all forget to sign your names. Anyhoo, I will stand on my two boxes of Sepia, Sweet Baby on the grounds I will not incriminate myself! Lorraine the cavaliers `ooh it hurts me`.....unreleased at the time but i think the mastertape was found at rca`s new york offices some years ago 1
lorchand Posted March 28, 2012 Posted March 28, 2012 the cavaliers `ooh it hurts me`.....unreleased at the time but i think the mastertape was found at rca`s new york offices some years ago You are absolutely correct! Wow! Even the the melody (and lyrics) changed slightly, both sound good. I believe Bobby Croft helped to write Ooh, It Hurts Me, just off the top of my head. It sounds like him. Lorraine
Headsy Posted March 28, 2012 Posted March 28, 2012 Would you know what quantity would have been pressed of a tune like sweet baby, Lorraine ?
Steve G Posted March 28, 2012 Posted March 28, 2012 ...and how did the French get to hear of it and release it?
Weingarden Posted March 28, 2012 Posted March 28, 2012 This is the side for me: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dw9_fRh4GMw
lorchand Posted March 28, 2012 Posted March 28, 2012 Would you know what quantity would have been pressed of a tune like sweet baby, Lorraine ? Usually, 200-500 copies are initially pressed. That would be the minimum, especially on the SEPIA label. Lorraine
lorchand Posted March 28, 2012 Posted March 28, 2012 This is the side for me: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dw9_fRh4GMw That Johnny Dixon could sing and write. Al Gardner could really, really sing. I put my turntable up a long time ago and hearing these songs again has given me a new appreciation of what we had then. It also makes me kind of sad. So much talent. Lorraine 1
Guest giant Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 Lorraine' your knowledge and help is very much appreciated on here. many thanks steve 1
lorchand Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 ...and how did the French get to hear of it and release it? I would like to know also. Bootlegging is the illegal use of distribution of someone else's material. It's too bad the only person who gets paid is the seller. It's so difficult to track them down and sooo expensive. It's not worth money you put behind it. Lorraine
lorchand Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 (edited) Lorraine' your knowledge and help is very much appreciated on here. many thanks steve Steve, It's good to be acknowledged and appreciated. I'm just giving back to what I'm receiving. After all, you can't take it with you and I want the record (no pun intended) to be straight. I thank you all more than you could ever know. Roburt Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 Lorraine, its great that via the UK NS scene you can be re-acquainted with some of your old work ... & that you realise how good it was & how loved the old tracks still are. Your detailed knowledge of what went down over 40 years ago is astounding (so we KNOW you turned up to the office every day in 'full working order'). You are also a truly lovely lady as I can personally attest from meeting you on both of the occasions that you performed at Prestatyn. MORE POWER TO YOU.
