Over the last year, when I've had a few minutes spare, I've done random searches for things which I've compiled as I've gone along. Rob Moss recently did an article on Billboard which I found really interesting so thought it might be worth sharing what I've assembled to date. I haven't yet figured out how to 'grab' the text so you'll have to open the links and look for yourself. Maybe it's something that can be added to. Funnily enough, I am doing the same thing as you, I actually made a post about it last week asking how to cut specific items out. As I am using a Mac, I found a truly brilliant program was already built in, it's called Grab. For windows, you have to click 'print screen' then open up 'paint' and paste in the image you saved using print screen, and then you can cut out the piece that you need. I also like the fact that you can create and build your own 'library' of articles, etc, which is great for developing an archive of material relative to your own areas of interest. boba Posted March 26, 2012 Share Posted March 26, 2012 John Smith (not sure if he's a well known person or not, but he doesn't post here) who is into ohio soul went through billboard and posted tons of stuff about that. The other day an artist asked me to post all the pics of references to his group in billboard onto his facebook. it took me hours because, if you want it to be at the minimum readable zoom, it takes 3 different screenshots to get one billboard page captured, then you have to cut out the article from each of the screenshots and piece them all together. very annoying. I went through them fairly quickly and took photos of various adverts (not including charts/release info) and still came out with almost 100 pics from a dozen or so issues - including that incredible Big Wheel full page advert Amdy mentioned! I haven't listed them on here yet as I have no idea how much to list them for or what to charge for the postage! Invaluable info in every issue! But that's the difference between having an original release on 45 and a digital version of it! I've happily bought single page ads from Billboard and Record World and will continue to do so if I find ones that are of interest. Just because Billboard is available online doesn't devalue the desirability certain aspects of the original publications. On the other hand, I've also taken screen grabs of news items and have no desire to buy a whole issue or just a page for only couple of column inches or the briefest of mentions of a specific artist or label. But that depends on whether the users of the magazine need or want a physical copy. I've even bought an ad from cashbox that some seller tore out and sold separately. But most people who bought billboard before bought it for the information, not the physical item. It's not the same situation as 45s. Obviously some people still might want to collect individual issues (e.g. if there is something important in them) but overall the demand is significantly lower. I HAVE TO AGREE WITH YOU ..... ..... the original will be on poor quality paper that is 50+ yrs old, creased & maybe torn & only available in one size. the digital copy can be printed out to any scale, on any type of paper or card & can be 'manipulated' to amend any errors that were in the original. Probably just transcription errors but this is one.....Smith did not own Slambeat music, that was Mills' house publishing since 1965 when he started the GAR label in Missouri.
