Guest Nick Harrison Posted March 24, 2012 Posted March 24, 2012 Nickel 101 A side 45. The Halleluiah Chorus - I've Got To Find A Way. The B side has a short up tempo instrumental by Richard Terry and Company. Anyone shed any light on this little known Nickel 45. Thanks.
Kris Holmes Posted March 24, 2012 Posted March 24, 2012 recently comped on the Richard Pegue set by Numero. can't say it's really a standout track on there for me. usually about a $30 45, but will probably go up a bit in price after the comp. not really anything unknown or especially rare I'd have thought.
Mister Fish Posted March 24, 2012 Posted March 24, 2012 I really like the Halleluiah Chorus tune it's certainly a grower. Got no idea why the seemingly unrelated inst tune is on the flip though. Quite hard to find in minty condition.
Guest JohanT Posted March 24, 2012 Posted March 24, 2012 I've always loved this record as well! Last copy on ebay (vg+ only) 63usd...

Anyone shed any light on this little known Nickel 45. Thanks. I know Pete S will disapprove of me saying this, but the full story is in the numero group CD... Basically, it was an attempt to make a secular church-style chorus, similar to the voices of east harlem. I think I have some photos of the group, looking now.
boba Posted March 24, 2012 Posted March 24, 2012 here one of the photos... I honestly would give more info if I could but I only know vague bits and pieces of the story, Bill Dahl did research and wrote excellent liner notes... Richard Pegue told me that they auditioned people for the chorus at the high chaparral.
Mister Fish Posted March 24, 2012 Posted March 24, 2012 Bob, you know here one of the photos... Guest Nick Harrison Posted March 25, 2012 Posted March 25, 2012 (edited) Bob, you know everything. You're like a Soul oracle! Indeed Steve - and thanks for the informative replies and the photo, which also included the whole of the Tide Choir members. I was also trying to look for a recording year. Is this a late seventies or an early eighties recording ? Thanks. Or even mid eighties ? Would it be save to assume Bob that the 4 people photoed sat on the fence are the Halleluiah Chorus members of Davis, Harvey, Lee and Pegue ! Edited March 25, 2012 by Nick Harrison
Kris Holmes Posted March 25, 2012 Posted March 25, 2012 I have the comp & liner notes right here, it's really a great read/listen that people need to get. The instrumental is from the late 60s & is reused from a 45 on Richard Pegue's Penny label. Roy Wood "The Tale of Three Monkeys". Not a essential 45 really.

jocko Posted March 25, 2012 Posted March 25, 2012 Bloody hell another sitting in the untouched for 30 years bpx, off to listen to it again, and then no doubt sell it. Amazing how tastes change!
Kris Holmes Posted March 25, 2012 Posted March 25, 2012 still not an expensive record though. i'm also almost positive that a certain seller has unplayed stock of this......
