Bit Of A Dull One This

Being as Im a relatively new collector (4 years with a lapse of 25) Im concerned about the listings of a certain popular catalogue.

As want of example

P P Arnold Everythings Gonna Be Alright. Immediate hash 6256 vinyl repro

Jo Armistead I feel an urgfe coming on. 74a Counterfeit.

My problem here is the counterfeit v repro. Are all counterfeits repros/repros counterfeit or does a repro mean that the record was grafted sneakily off the original tapes. In this particular guide at the front it says about counterfeits but does not say anyhting about repros. I only ask this beacaue the sound quality of the top mentioned record is excellent but like I said its only an example. Thanks

It's all a bit muddy. A repro is a copy of the original, but that could mean it's official or unofficial, but suggets that it's legit. A counterfeit is a copy of the original which is 100% illegal. In the case of the PP Arnold, I don't know of a legitimate repro of that one, only two bootlegs, both made to look like USA copies, despite it never having been issued in the USA.

Thought so Pete. The example like I say is just an example; it puzzled me a bit and I guess there could be fraud going on in the music industry of the sixties if Im not mistaken, or a few bills pushed into peoples pockets

I think in general "repro" is the same as counterfeit, it's a word doowop collectors used for their counterfeit copy 45s and they pretty much never licensed anything. I guess it's possible someone could have licensed a "repro" but they generally would have called it a "reissue".

I'm sure there was a UK legit re-issue of the PP Arnold 45 about 20 years back but no attempt was made to make the 'new' single look like the original.

Can't recall if it was actually on a reactivated Immediate or not (even though I'm sure I have a copy here somewhere).

I think it might have part of a double pack single.

The Counterfeits were bootlegs done to LOOK almost identicle to the original labels specifically to decieve collectors.Thats why the Jo Armstead is described that way,another example would be the Younghearts ---- A Little Togetherness---Canterbury

There was a re release......there were some unissued bits released as well on the Immediate label Traxters-Glandular fever being on the b side of a Crispian St Peters B Side.........organ instrumental.Just got the book on Immediate in a bargain book shop cheap.Had a crap grey boot of Everything...they made no attempt to make it look like a US legit release.Her Likely Piece Of Work on Polydor isn't bad.

thats right pete ..came out in 1980 on a black nems label..sold it on ebay about 3 years ago
