Hi everyone

Can anyone give me some background on the Imperial (part of Liberty) demos - the white ones and the multi-coloured green & beige ones?

Is there a rule of thumb about which ones are rarer, or are some East/West coast, or some similar kind of differentiation please?

Cheers

Richard

how it works is the black & white ones correspond to the first lot under the Liberty ownership.

The stock labels for these are this:

The promos this:

The green & beige ones come partway through the 661XX series.

Stock it's this:

Promo it's this:

Of course with any label change over there are probably records appearing on both variants around the changeover period.

Thanks Kris! Much appreciated mate

I'm interested in the 'crossover' period now - like the "I'll Never Forget You" on both the coloured and WDJ - which is best?

Also - wasn't the O'Jays "No Time For You" also on both coloured and WDJ?

Plus, even if the promos are different - are the issues always the same colour per release?

Cheers

I don't know which is best, I think from memory there are a mix of styrene & vinyl on both designs.

I just checked the other O'Jays one you mentioned & you're right, it has the same variations.

Must have been a pretty long changeover period.

I have not seen the other stock variation (black/white/pink) on either of the O'Jays doing a quick search so maybe they were just pressing promos at a couple of different places & one place had more of the black/white labels than the other.

Who knows for sure though?

Quality stuff - thanks Kris - top class

Guess the 'white demo' mania will out with us in the UK though

Just did a search through some earlier titles & the O'Jays "I'll Never Forget You" on 66162 is the earliest example of the new promo design to come up.

Out of interest, Canada seems to have used the black/pink/white stock label for longer on their releases as well. A title like Cher "Bang Bang" on 66160 has the green/black stock in the US but the black/white/pink in Canada.

thought the white label vinyl copies were east coast and the green and beige styrene one west coast

maybe, but the AC Jones 66150 wlp I have is vinyl pressed at Monarch on the west coast.

could be an anomaly though as I guess no one knows for certain.
