Guest
a couple of weeks ago I managed to get hold of a record I first yearned for about 25 years ago....doesn't really matter what the record was... I've never stopped wanting to get hold of a copy in all of those 25 years ... some missed chances to buy at nighters back then..... some failed bids.....heard it on mp3 many times but that never quite scratched the itch which always niggled away......then finally ... snagged...got it....in the bag....mine.... the impatient wait for it to arrive...unpacking it... eyes lighting up and a silly beaming smile ... and all of that leading to the most magic of moments when you first place it on the deck and you hear the sound that never be replicated... the live sound of needle on hallowed vinyl with the little faint imperfections during that magical pause before the treasured opening bars take you away.....it might be just me, but it just doesn't get any better than that..... Guest soul elite
I think most of us on the soul scene are a little eccentric in one way or another, don't you ? Link to comment Social source share

Only Dreaming
There is no better feeling than getting an original copy of a record you first came across on cd or one of those brilliant Kent lps and hearing it in all its original (mono) glory. Happy days, Dave 1 Link to comment Social source share
Wilxy
Then there's the "antedote".....Seeing a record listed that totally melts you......thinking, you're"on the ball" with regard to timing......only to find out you've missed it and actually six people before you had a claim on it before you......such a deflating moment .......(Sorry Reg, missed another one).....Ignore me anyway Link to comment Social source share
Only Dreaming
That's all part of the game Wilxy. I think a big part of the fun is in chasing these records anyway. Overall I bag more than I lose. Happy hunting, Dave Link to comment Social source share
Scotters
Couldn't agree more with great description on how it feels to get hold of records you hear and then just have to hunt down / lose sleep over / own / hold / smell / stoke / stare at (oh, and listen to of course!)...no matter what the value. Urm yes, madness and passion are two of the many ingredients required I think. I'm still trying to convince the missus that it's "just another way of saving" 2 Link to comment Social source share

Dave2
bang on!!!! -you took the words out of my mouth ktf tfk Cool. 25 years (good things come to those... etc) It's also a great to find your elusive 'wants' (or craves!) in peoples sales boxes. Rare this happens, but when it does... trying to remain 'calm' and 'carry on' when something inside your heart and mind is compelling you to shout: "F***ing Yes!!! Get In!!!" Now that's madness, driven by passion! in the bag....mine.... the impatient wait for it to arrive.. Absolute worst time for me. I actually get paranoid. There's mega rare ebay stuff this week people mention 'as a once in a lifetime' opportunity. If I had the dosh (I don't) I couldnt' survive the weeks anticipation of waiting for that $5.5k Northern monster 45 to arrive!! I know you have insurance cover, but records this good should be delivered by Jason Statham, not postman Pat. (No disrespect to the postal service!) Roburt
FRUSTRATED OF YOURCSHYRE ........... What you regard as a PASSION (45 collecting), your wife & kids regard as MADNESS !!! PASSION OR MADNESS, which is it ???? Link to comment Social source share

I don't know how people have the heart to do this. When i used to collect,i always found that anything i let go,i missed and wanted back in the future and nearly always ended up paying more to get a copy back than i originally sold it for. I learned my lesson pretty quick and would rather lose out on something i wanted and did not have, than part with something i already had, just to fund it. Stu. FRUSRATED OF YORKSHIRE Ahh that's when the passion comes in to it for me, after I've (over!) spent the monthly budget...to then get around the charity shops or the odd car boot sale etc to find some 45's or LP's, which don't have to be anything rare...just a thrill to know you've picked a record up for 50p or whatever and still can't wait to get home to play it! Smudger
Does anyone remember D.P.s Shades of Soul had an article about collecting 45's with some great one liners re excuses etc. for buying records.? Link to comment Social source share
Wilxy
Not being in the right place at the right time seems, moreover in particular to Soul Source, my mainstay of purchase TBH, whilst it's nice to pick up the odd lesser known obscurity....Being on the ball for the Big Hitters, is not one of my forte's sadly......alas"I will prevail".....hopefully Link to comment Social source share
