Cheers Steve I have a spare of the boot, which has a different style of print for the label name, but agree with mark if I were to sell my original it would be more than the ebay price, quite a rare item
Mark B Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 Hi Bob I paid a £100.00 for mine about 3 years ago so definately would'nt let it go for less Mark

Cheers The darker one isn't a boot. Hamster were in business in 1976 when re-pressed. The original pressing on the lighter green label is from 1975. Colin Curtis originally played it at the Mecca. I met the label owner re-promoting it at the Peppermint Lounge, New York a few months later. The brief UK interest prompted the label to re-press a few hundred? The same label I think had an interest in Gotcha's Making Love To Ya, as they gave me the first copies to bring back to the UK. Hope this clears up the 1st and 2nd pressing for you Bob. H Regards- KR
Mark B Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 cheers Kev does John Manship know this he can update his bootleg guide mark
Goldsoul Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 cheers Kev does John Manship know this he can update his bootleg guide mark No idea. Maybe you can tell him.

H Regards- KR Well that will certainly do no harm to the price of the second issue, knowing it's a legal repress JM always quotes it as booted in the same batch as Timothy Wilson, Anderson Bros, Epitome of Sound, Dave Newman etc Bob - Yeah it was Mark I saw on Friday, sorry for the confusion! Cheers Steve
Goldsoul Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 (edited) John Manship wasnt in New York at the time to witness the situation.! Epitome of Sound, Dave Newman etc were made in late 1976. Edited March 12, 2012 by The Golden 101

boba Posted March 12, 2012 Author Posted March 12, 2012 Thanks for the info everyone I appreciate it. I will wait for one to come through ebay I guess (although I know that doesn't happen often because I know I haven't seen the record a lot). Thanks again.
Mark B Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 thats me well pleased thought mine was a repro can now start playing it with pride intact lol cheapskate bugger lol i sold my first copy years ago as i thought it was a bootleg. mark
Kjw Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 The style of the lettering on the label name HAMSTER is different on the repress I'm pretty certain the one that just went through Ebay was the repress I think it was Ady Pountain's copy - maybe Ady will confirm if he reads this thread
Ernie Andrews Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 (edited) Another repro went through Ebay last week for 10 quid in the Uk Think I sold my original last year sometime wasnt more than 50 quid! JUst checked back it was 2010 and I sold it for 70 pounds so Bobs about right with his offer. Edited March 12, 2012 by Ernie Andrews
Ady Potts Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 (edited) The copy that sold yesterday for $85.99 was the re-press. Here's what the original 1st press looks like. Note how the song title " A WOMAN IS HARD TO UNDERSTAND" is all on one line. On the repress it's broken down into two lines : Edited March 12, 2012 by pottsy

Mark B Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 I have been Steve until my dj spots were kiboshed lol

It's all "Well I checked in the book and it said this". You can't beat experience. 2
Goldsoul Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Pete.....I could write a book, but then again......better not. Wonder whatever happened to the Yvonne Daniels pressing that Bobby Robinson and I did back in 1976? Sold less than 100 out of 300! Junked around 200......where are they?

Only ever seen the poorish quality same both sies one and that wasn't pressed til late 77.

Flanny Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 so the one with the title hamster with shadow typset is that an original 2nd press and not a bootleg
Emel Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Another repro went through Ebay last week for 10 quid in the Uk Think I sold my original last year sometime wasnt more than 50 quid! JUst checked back it was 2010 and I sold it for 70 pounds so Bobs about right with his offer. Well, I guess this was me. The seller's called "dumplingbelly". Happy to hear that this issue is at least a legal repress...
Goldsoul Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 Why were they junked though? Only ever seen the poorish quality same both sies one and that wasn't pressed til late 77. It didn't sell a carrot. Once there were no takers, it was dumped. Rather like cut outs back in the 60's. Who knew there would be demand today!
Goldsoul Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 so the one with the title hamster with shadow typset is that an original 2nd press and not a bootleg It's a 2nd press some 12 months after the original issue. As stated earlier in the thread, the owner met me while promoting another track by Gotcha. I talked him into pressing 500 of which I took two thirds of the run. The other 170-200 are probably lying unsold in the US or junked. Good record but unfortunately no commercial appeal.

KevH Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 I'm quite suprised to read of its popularity again. Is it being played out? At chill out sessions maybe?
Steve Plumb Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 I'm quite suprised to read of its popularity again. Is it being played out? At chill out sessions maybe? Chill Out? It must be 120bpm, plenty fast enough for me
Mark B Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 Same here Steve chill out I wonder what uptempo is like now lol
Garethx Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 Have never understood the appeal of this record and am amazed at the prices being quoted for the second issue. Sold an original on ebay (to a fellow forum member as it turned out) a few years ago and it struggled to reach double figures. 1
KevH Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 Chill Out? It must be 120bpm, plenty fast enough for me "A woman's hard... etc"?? Midtempo at best. Not knocking it at all.
Mark B Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 Gareth that is because you have very poor taste in music. Lol. You coming to Yarmouth this year
Guest Dave Turner Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 (edited) As we know there a few different Jimmy Macks. Good luck to him,he`d get my vote.
Steve Plumb Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 A few years ago I went on a mission to make sure I had all those classic funkier early 70's Northern sides on Originals e.g. Jimmy Mack on Hamster, Delreys Inc on Tampete, Prince George on DPG, Joe Hicks on AGC etc I think they still sound great to this day and should get more chance of getting reactivation now that funkier sides are more acceptable? Originals of these are surprisingly hard to find these days too, although after this thread i wonder if any will surface in sales? Cheers Steve 1

Steve Plumb Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 Yeah you can definitely add BB & LJ to that list as that's not easy to find on original either! Brill deep B side too (as is the B side to Delreys Inc)
Chalky Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 The Del Rays Inc gets played all over the place Steve.
