John A Posted March 8, 2012 Posted March 8, 2012 (edited) Not too much £100 maybe(if that)? or a million quid from any major dealer. Edited March 8, 2012 by John A

Alison H Posted March 8, 2012 Posted March 8, 2012 sorry nige, only just noticed your post ! thanks for your reply bud,so this was the first version of this song ? linda queen being a later version ? jason Hey Jason I need to thank you for asking, as had you never asked, I'd have never heard the Linda Queen version 1
arnie j Posted March 8, 2012 Author Posted March 8, 2012 Hey Jason I need to thank you for asking, as had you never asked, I'd have never heard the Linda Queen version no probs alison,i still prefer the later linda queen version though jason
boba Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 it's weird that the collier version doesn't have writers credits on it but it does have a different publishing than the linda queen record... although obviously soul people stole songs all the time...
Pete S Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 The B side of Linda Queen is brilliant too. Unfortunately I'm not awake yet so can't remember what it's called. Kev Roberts once told me he got 200 or so copies of this from a house in New Jersey I think it was.
Soulman Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 B side is "Where can my baby be". Mr Manship has one in stock at £200. Steve
Pete S Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 B side is "Where can my baby be". Mr Manship has one in stock at £200. Steve It usually sells for £75
Benji Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 It usually sells for £75 My rule of thumb* : max. market value is 50% of Manship price * I know there are exceptions to the rule
jocko Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 B side is "Where can my baby be". Mr Manship has one in stock at £200. Steve And is the same, but not as good, as old Dave Withers spin the Martells, if I remember rightly, I didn't know the :Pain side was same as MC, must listen to them both tonight.

jocko Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 It's not the same song Jock. Well I'm 99% sure it's not. Does it have a similar chorus, says he digging rapidly. Sure we used to say it was the same, but it was 30 years ago and I was off my head!
Monkey Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 linda queen "i feel the pain"(rod) ??? Yes it was the Linda Queen version played at Stafford
Pete S Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 Does it have a similar chorus, says he digging rapidly. Yes, it features the words "Where can my baby be"
Guest Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 I recall stumbling across the Mitty Collier version whilst the Linda Queen disc was a Stafford period spin. It was on a Craig Moerer list at $100, which was a lot more than most discs on that particular list and seemed a lot for a Mitty Collier Chess 45...there was the option of a stock or DJ copy. Took the punt and was delighted/shocked! I later included it on the, 'Sweeter Than The Day Before' LP/CD compilation to give it some more deserved exposure.
Roburt Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 Mitty Collier version is way better than the Linda Queen effort ........ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kAG36ZvfcRU 1
Codfromderby Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 I've never heard that version before. I do love the Mitty Collier one ... lots !! and can see the attraction with this one (but it's Mitty all the way for me ) Thanks for sharing love that "the painted desert" on the label, whats that all about
Chalky Posted March 10, 2012 Posted March 10, 2012 The B side of Linda Queen is brilliant too. Unfortunately I'm not awake yet so can't remember what it's called. Kev Roberts once told me he got 200 or so copies of this from a house in New Jersey I think it was. It's the better side for me Pete. 1
Dennisoul Posted March 10, 2012 Posted March 10, 2012 Linda Queen for me all the way...its the one I remember Guy playing.....really evokes great memories this tune does
tosspot Posted March 10, 2012 Posted March 10, 2012 I'm gonna dig the Linda Queen out & the Martels & have a good ole listen
Suzannek Posted March 10, 2012 Posted March 10, 2012 (edited) I like this version also by Pat Hervey Suz x Edited March 10, 2012 by suzannek
Dennisoul Posted March 10, 2012 Posted March 10, 2012 I like this version also by Pat Hervey Suz x Love this version 1
jocko Posted March 10, 2012 Posted March 10, 2012 Pete wash your ears out Linda Queen sounds nothing like the Martells, not sure where you got that. But 2 amazing records that blow the ass off what some of the funky pretenders champion, and then some. Particularly the Martells, when was that last played???
jocko Posted March 10, 2012 Posted March 10, 2012 Love this version Andrew, I thought I taught you well, and certainly not pop copies, think you need some more detention!!
Pete S Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 Pete wash your ears out Linda Queen sounds nothing like the Martells, not sure where you got that. Will do Jock.
Gary Brown Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 I made the mistake of selling my Mitty Collier pretty cheap a while back. I only ever played it at low volume at work, then Martyn Bird spun it at York last year (pitched up I think, but not much) and it sounded tremendous on a big system. .... regrets, Ive had a few.
