Guest eddiep Posted March 8, 2012 Posted March 8, 2012 (edited) Hi everyone, Was thinking about this forum topic title and the connotation's it can actually have....... Don't know if this has been done before but how would you feel about sharing the tunes that are currently floating your boat which are actually from "Your Box" . "Look At Your Box" but.... aurally kinda thing. I wondered if there would be any objection to my proposal of being able to record YOUR PERSONAL VINYL onto CD and be able to do a straight swop with someone else for a CD compiled by themselves of their current spins in the TRADES / SWOPS section. NO exchange of money between parties. Just a straight swop. A kind of "SOUL SWOPSHOP" perhaps ??? As far as I can see it could benefit people in many different ways. Those who are financially restricted in our tough economic climate for one. So.......any suggestions or comments guys. What does ya think ?? Cheers, Eddie Edited March 9, 2012 by eddiep
boba Posted March 8, 2012 Posted March 8, 2012 I'm sure there would be no objection -- there already has been a few other CD swaps. I think you are saying to record "your box" which is your entire personal collection. Do most people here just have a box (or two) of 45s? Honest question. Also, are they all records to DJ with or just collected records? Thanks.
John Reed Posted March 8, 2012 Posted March 8, 2012 I'm sort of thinking along the same lines as Bob. Are you talking about a CD swap, but one that's wider musically than the recent Sweet/Deep swap from a couple of months ago?
Guest eddiep Posted March 8, 2012 Posted March 8, 2012 Hi Bob / John, I have to be honest and say I totally missed the Sweet/ Deep swap you mention from a few months back. I didn't know this or any other "swop" had previously taken place. My idea was not based on recording someone's whole collection or Deep & Sweet tunes either but on what tunes are currently being enjoyed by members. Whether they be Northern, Crossover, R&B, Modern etc. As a for instance.... I have a fairly wide range in taste amongst soul and R&B styles. I like pretty much like something from all the sub-genre's. Across the board as they say! Was thinking of advertising a CD compiled from my records with a view of receiving one back in a "swop". Not limiting myself to this though I was also going to do others that are more concentrated in a musical style, e.g. Crossover/ Northern / Modern etc. (I understand that some people also only like a certain style and are not interested in everything there is out there). If there isn't objection then i'll advertise and see if anyone is up for it. Ultimately this exercise is to discover tunes I haven't heard before and to expand my interest and knowledge still. Hopefully it will do the same for others too and keep the momentum of our scene to continue moving foward in a small way. Eddie
KevH Posted March 8, 2012 Posted March 8, 2012 Eddie, there used to be,and still maybe is,a regular cd swap on here.A "you send me one,get one back".I'm sure one of the mods wil point you to the link.
Guest eddiep Posted March 8, 2012 Posted March 8, 2012 Thanks guys I didn't know about that. Will check it out. Regards, Eddie
Guest eddiep Posted March 8, 2012 Posted March 8, 2012 Just checked the link out and yeah.... Basically the same thing I guess. No limit as to what genre though. Everything goes as long as it's soulful and from your personal collection. I'm starting to record today so if anyone is interested in swapping then give me a shout if your interested guys. Already had one PM so the balls rolling so to speak. Cheers Dean BTW. Looking foward to what you have to send Cheers, Eddie
Chalky Posted March 8, 2012 Posted March 8, 2012 I didn't have time to get a cd sorted for last swap but I'd be up mfor an across the board swap next time, well 60's 70's and some 80's, most what I have bought lately.
Hayden Road Posted March 8, 2012 Posted March 8, 2012 (edited) Well i've messaged Eddie to say 'Im in'. Gonna stick to 45's I have purchased in the last year. Nothing too rare or expensive, but all stuff I've been enjoying recently. Edited March 8, 2012 by Hayden Road
Guest eddiep Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 Hi everyone, Sorry for the delay in getting back on this topic but had a few technical probs and they've only just been resolved. Anyways......... First off i'd like to say thanks to those who have PM'd me expressing an interest and are looking foward to taking part in this little project. Cheers guys If anyone else is interested in taking part in the "LOOK AT YOUR BOX SOUL SWOPSHOP" project please PM me in the next few days. It looks like everyone so far is up for an "ACROSS THE BOARD" style compilation so we're go with that theme. If we can have everyone who's interested in taking part to PM me by Sunday 11th March (this Sunday coming!) that would be great. I need you to send me your name, address so a generic PM can be sent to all those who are taking part. You will then have the details of where to send your soul CD compilation and others will have your details of where to send their's to you. Assuming you have available blank CD's and are ready to go.... Sending of CD's would be appreciated by all as soon as possible for this to work smoothly. PLEASE HELP EVERYONE BY NOT DELAYING IN COMPLETING AND SENDING YOUR CD's OUT. More details to follow as and when. If interested please PM me as soon as possible. Cheers guys! ATB Eddie
