Prophonics 2029 Posted March 3, 2012 Posted March 3, 2012 Must read labels more EG The Embers. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b1o2ns5vNkk
boba Posted March 3, 2012 Posted March 3, 2012 Sorry if I'm being slow, but what are you saying about this (classic) cut? Thanks. 1
Prophonics 2029 Posted March 3, 2012 Author Posted March 3, 2012 Yes Bob I never knew this version only The Embers. Totaly slipped through my net. In the UK on Radio we get Simply Red, Oasis and Phill Colins all day, this could be he main reason why America is running low on rare soul records.

Prophonics 2029 Posted March 3, 2012 Author Posted March 3, 2012 Cheers Mike, I am still catching up on The Ice Man, I have even found a version of Where's The Girl by Ben E King by him..
boba Posted March 3, 2012 Posted March 3, 2012 actually ace/kent didn't recognize it at some point because they called the track "puppy love" on the rare/unreleased impressions CD. Almost all that early jerry butler is classic and worth getting
Prophonics 2029 Posted March 3, 2012 Author Posted March 3, 2012 I have a few Boba by him and I am totaly charmed by his voice so will continue the search.
Soulboy69 Posted March 3, 2012 Posted March 3, 2012 (edited) Brilliant track that has had quite a few spins at "Soul Or Nothing". Sounds great played out on a decent system. Edited March 3, 2012 by soulboy69

Pete S Posted March 3, 2012 Posted March 3, 2012 flip of millon seller moon river yep ? like yourself only "aware" since days of net etc there's a later version by the impressions on lp. can't recall lead details etc think also a reggae version out there Also a version by Alan David on UK Decca which is pretty collectable.
Wrongcrowd Posted March 3, 2012 Posted March 3, 2012 You can very rarely go wrong with anything that Jerry Butler has sung or been involved with....aside from the great Curis Mayfield penned and produced tunes during his time with VJ, the tunes that came out of his Music Workshop and Fountain productions are just pure class.... If you don't know "Walk Easy My Son", then do yourself a favour.... it's been massive in my house for a couple of years... 1
Windlesoul Posted March 3, 2012 Posted March 3, 2012 (edited) 'Aware of love' came out on the same Impressions lp that's got 'You ought to be in heaven' - I always thought everybody knew Jerry's and their version and assumed that was where the interest in the Embers version started (which I've now got round to getting too as part of my beachy interest!). Anyway, if you don't know it, also check out Jerry's 'Giving up on love' absolutely superb midtempo cheapie, sounds like a million dollars.... Edited March 3, 2012 by mark w. 1
arnie j Posted March 3, 2012 Posted March 3, 2012 jerry butler is such a superb artist,as they say "he could sing the phonebook and sound brilliant" i adore "ineed to belong" by him jason
Kris Holmes Posted March 3, 2012 Posted March 3, 2012 classic track, can't believe people have missed this, that Moon River 45 is so common & I can't stand Moon River so the only obvious thing to do is flip it over.
Smudger Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 (edited) And the impressions on the fabulous impressions album Sam Gooden singing Jerry's part https://youtu.be/63sydNWnZBE that Curtis Mayfield bloke sure wrote some fine songs. Edited March 4, 2012 by smudger
