just bought a copy of this but been advised by an amigo to watch out for the belgian boot

i am pretty much 100% mine is pucker tucker but now the seed has been sewn i would like to confirm

can anyone give me details of the boot...matrix, label differences etc

i have my copy in front of me now

In case it helps here are a couple of scans that don't fit the norm (black)

I would be interested to know whether there are several coloured issues on Hondo.

think j manship had a real yellow copy for sale a while ago,rarer than black apparentley

If your buying a black one make sure it has water damaged label LOL you will be 99% sure of it being genuine :P

Just looked at the yellow label one I have and matrix is simply "002-45" at about 5 o'clock on one side, also with a small "H" at around 11 o'clock on that same side, then just "001-45" on the other side, again with a small "H" but less visible. I hope it's original as I think I paid couple hundred dollars from a highly rated ebay seller about 18 months or so ago. Maybe I shouldn't ask :huh::D

I had a yellow one which I bought in the seventies,I allways belived it to be original.

Yellow copies credited to 'Anne' as opposed to 'Ann' on the black copies. I'm afraid I can't answer the question of which was the first variant but I've always assumed both were legitimate presses. The first copies I ever saw were yellow and didn't see a black one for a long time but that doesn't necessarily mean anything either way as once I had a copy (mid 1980s) I didn't go looking for any more.

Ann/Anne was the wife of Marvin Jenkins of "I've Got The Blues" fame on Palomar. Marvin was the musical director of Della Reese's touring band for years.

I picked up my black copy in L.A. when the record was out in the '60s. i saw only black copies back then in shops. I think the yellow must have been only one pressing batch, and am guessing that it is the rarer of the two colours (maybe not in The UK, but, certainly, over all. There should be a fair amount of regular Soul collectors in USA that liked that record and bought it (at least in California (where it got distribution).

Why is this record always available for sale and why won't the price drop much below $300?? I obviously wouldn't be complaining about this if I already had a copy, but I don't understand how it's impossible to get a cheap copy of this. I think part of it is that anyone who has it has a clean copy and starts it at $250.

Another record like that (which I don't care too much about but would buy for cheap) is the Cross Bronx Expressway. It has maintained exactly the same value, going back to when funk collecting was huge. Why will it not drop?

You could say the same for a lot of records Bob - Its dealers artificially keeping the price high and the Guides! lets no go there. Enjoying your country at the moment Bob & I havnt looked for a single record and Ive been here 10 days so far!

For other records I can wait it out and they'll come up cheaper eventually. But not these two for some reason.

Chicago had record heat, 3 days over 100, and it's not even the worst part of the country. I just stay inside with my air conditioning on.

It got a release in Motown as well. They played it on CKLW (And they spelled it 'Ann' on the playlist).

I've often felt that way about Sam Dees on SSS Intl.

I feel a little differently about that. It always turns up trashed and people bid it up high always. The two records I mentioned have (imo) their value artificially kept high because nobody ever lists one at a low start and let the bidders determine the value.
