Dekka Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 No disrespect to Nige but I think we all know of DJ's, either at Nighter's or Soul Night's who do their spot then Piss off, I find this ignorant and disrespectfull, smacks of take the money and run. If you don't wanna be there then don't go, or is it cos they do the gig for the Kudos of playing a particular nighter or soul night. All I know is that when I see em buggering off, I say good riddance. I never saw Karl Heard bugger off early and there will never be a DJ like him. 2

Spacehopper Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 if you wanna go early nige...you do...dont have to explain it....although i do think a dj should GET there early...dont like seeing djs turn up half hour before there set...unless they've been djing elsewhere ofcourse or stuck in traffic..but know a couple of seen do this on more than one occasion...

Somebody must have pissed you off for you to go into writing. Sad realy that people have these ideas about what others can and can't do.
Wrongcrowd Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 ----- no its not!!! ... is this where someone has so say "oh yes it is" ? ....bit late for pantomime Mark...maybe not at some venues though, come to think of it.... 1
Popular Post Chalky Posted March 1, 2012 Popular Post Posted March 1, 2012 I agree a Dj should get to the venue as early as possible but to insist they stop till the end is plain ridiculous and besides what a DJ does once he has done what he has been asked to do is f*ck all to do with anyone else. No one shouls have to explain themselves to anyone least of all you Nige who has gone right through the scene without a break. It is high time some stopped interfering or telling others what to do with their lives. Some should take a long look at the state they get themselves in at their ages all in the name of being a hardcore soulie. 12
TOAD Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 yawn yawn didnt take long for a comment and quote. I guess those who think differant to me have had a long break of the scene or are an oldies fan whoops a bit of truth there i think ! 1
shute Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 I agree with Nige, some of us, maybe due to living in the fast lane in the 70s/80s do suffer from health problems. I understand wher Nige is coming from, being a casual DJ nowadays I have to leave early sometimes. I had a heart attack at 32, then at 34 a triple bypass, then went an all nighter the same day I came out of hospital.. 3 years go I had brain surgery due to a sub achnoid haemerage, but always at a venue early. So why the crittasiam ??????

Sutty Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 I would have thought the thing that riles people is not a dj leaving early, but the quite selfish habit of turning up for their own slot then leaving straight afterwards. Not sure where the 'money' part comes into it though lol 2

This post could cost me a life .... but hey ho it will be worth it Well said Carms There's far too many prophets trying to preach that "their" way is the right way I'm not saying that "their" way is the wrong way, just most of us like to swing both ways or swing all ways and why not!! People should learn to be more tolerant of each other, and other's ways, for chuffs sake we've all got "soul" in common. It's ridiculous, & I even felt the need the other day to justify that my wearing and dancing (well, dancing in a fashion ) in heels doesn't make me any less a lover of soul. It's barmy, and I feel even barmier for being drawn into this, when really all I should do is stick "two fingers up" at the posts I don't like and move on. Which is what I'm going to do now (move on that is, not stick two fingers up at your post) All the best Ali x 2

Len Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 I know a Soul Night maybe 'Sunday League' to some but same principle. When I was promoting I always paid each D.J straight after their set, said thank you very much and if they decided to go home early it was up to them. I was kind of making that point to them by paying them as soon as they had 'Done their duty' There should be no presure on anyone or it just pushes them away. All the best, Len.

Very good point It just grates sometimes when you are travelling hundreds of miles on a round trip, paying your money, helping to keep the venue going (and there have been promoters on here stating if peeps don't come through the door, the venue wil close) then you just see the DJ piss off straight after his set, you just wonder sometimes, is it bloody worth it
Nige Brown Posted March 2, 2012 Author Posted March 2, 2012 I think may main bone of contension here is the Guest DJ (Soul Night or Niter) who arrive just before there spot or late the leave the venue immediatley after!! I hate that meself its rude and gives us all the bad name!! And i mean DJs who do that regulally ,,,,, we all have moments were we have got lost or had traffic problems even in the age of the Sat Nav!! As ive said bfore personally i try to arrive early as poss ,,,, and i personall do not leave straight away as i need a bit or warm down time ,,,,, sounds stupid i know but thats me!! The only time ive left early was a Soul Night in Ramsbottom last year where i became ill while DJing and left stariaght after my set ,,, i cant think of another time ive left staight away!! The other way round 2 years ago at Whitby i fell fast asleep at the hotel and was ten minutes late for my spot that night ,,,, but idid stay till the end of the evening I find it interesting that after all the Whooo Ha no one yet has has the Balls to Name and Shame Thats is why i was open and honest with everone on here Brave Keyboard Warriors ,,, Pahhh!

You have it spot on Nige Theres no need to name and shame, the DJ's that do it know who they are. It's not a case of being a key board warrior either, (like I said earlier it just grates sometimes) and lots of people know me and I always announce which nighters I will be attending. 1
Len Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 Is there really any 'Naming and Shaming' to be done here? Surely there's not D.J's that actually do turn up just before their spot, then go home soon after, especially on a regular basis? Correct me if I'm wrong but I've always thought this a bit of an 'urban myth' Maybe some big name on the oldiers scene that makes a 'cameo' appereance because of who they are / what their history is? This is a question not a hint at anyone I can think of. Anyway, there's no rule in The Northern Soul Rule Book that states you can't actually do this - I just checked All the best, Len. 3
