JOE TORQUAY Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 Pookie Hudson This Gets To Me Condition could hardly bee finer, the label could hardly been more captivating; after all this is the highly coveted JAMIE STOCK copy in perfect condition.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 409.00 Powerhouse You Turn Me On C/w Come Into My World As the Northern Soul "modern" slides off to the left towards a much funkier rhythm, this obscurity sound absolutely PERFECT for dancefloor appreciation. But it's more that just a funky dance grooves, classy jazz influenced riffs, a vocal delivered from an angry standpoint, instrumental breaks that hark back to the Jazz-Funk fever that o0verhelmed the Northern Soul scene in the early 80s. This is quality stuff with precise harmonies laid onto an inspired dance track. So, we then flip it over, and it gets sexy, a strong-stroller with beautifully constructed vocal-group backing. Two sides that will delight the thinking-Soul-Man. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 133.00 Whispers You Got A Man On Your Hands C/w You Can't Fight What Right Although apparently, I'm informed Wolverampton DJ legend "Pep" played this killer back in the 70s covered up as "The Carstairs". Today it's quality sits well below the-NS-radar. A double dose of undiluted pure vocal-group Northern Soul from L.A. Which for whatever reason has never risen to the upper value reaches where it's music quality certainly indicates it should be. Click the soundfile and you'll be treated to two Gene Page arrangements that give one of Melrose's Avenues most talented gatherings, a perfect foundation to flaunt their harmonious skills on. Two not one, truly fabulous Northern Soul dancers on a 45 that's rarely turns up for sale, and even more rarely turns up in DJ sets. I'm as guilty as the next man - but I'll put this right - at Rugby all-niters the "Be Yourself" room. Get on this, we think how much longer can quality of this calibre...snooze. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 159.00 Ascots Another Day C/w Love Northern Soul vocal group paradise - does it get any better than this? Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 653.00
JOE TORQUAY Posted February 29, 2012 Author Posted February 29, 2012 Liz Lands With The Temptations Midnight Johnny C/w Keep Me For lovers of the USA Motown White Demo, this we had to display on these pages because of the squeaky MINT condition made my eyes water. Liz Lands joins The Temptations and an uncredited girl gathering molding an atmospheric moody groove. Motown's echo effect works beautifully as the team craft a very "unlike" Motown recording. Popcorn cum Northern Soul excellence it is. But do not overlook the thoroughly Soulful pleading Deep Soul ballad on the flipside, with the Temptations again carefully cradling Liz shrill expressive notes. Condition, condition, condition you'll maybe never see a finer White Demo. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 82.00 Valadiers I Found A Girl You are gazing upon THE most highly valued UK Tamla Motown 45 it is possible to own, that fact is never going to change. It has and always will be the RAREST of all the Motown recordings to emerge from any UK company. This copy is a blinding PERFECT - MInt only gets a very conservative minus sign after it because in strong light you can almost detect an occasional brief sleeve-brush blemish to suggest it has just been filed for nearly FIFTYYEARS!!! British Tamla Motown collectors this is the ultimate 45 - this is as good as it gets when one comes to market, in goose-pimple inducing condition. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 889.00 Ray Charles And The Raelets I Chose To Sing The Blues Jimmy Holiday knew how you write a slab of Northern Soul, didn't he just! His collaborations with Ray Charles created some real beauties. But NONEget anywhere near to competing with this out-of-control juggernaut of a production. It sounds like Ray's full orchestra is there, the Raelets screaming their appreciative chorus, as the horn section super-charges the session up to a level ready to match Ray's signature growl. WOW! Then a wild saxophone solo, that only gets blow out of the water by the truck full of horns - when is this gonna stop. Just too much...this is rampant Northern Soul ...presented here as a gorgeous totally captivatingRED & WHITE 19666 British DEMO in flawless condition. Some tune ... some vision. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 75.00 Don Ray Born A Loser Condition, condition, CONDITION!! Other than a date on the flipside label this Northern Soul classic promo isPERFECT! Gleaming flawless Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 140.00
JOE TORQUAY Posted February 29, 2012 Author Posted February 29, 2012 Lorraine Silver Lost Summer Love Isn't it good when you see an old friend you haven't seen for years. I can't even remember the last time we had this Wigan Casino / Cleethorpes Pier Northern Soul anthem for sale. But I do know it was a promo copy - because the STOCK copy, well you just never see, do you. Click the soundfile to evoke visions of spinning girls in wide pleated skirts rising to parasol position. The guys in their vests, baggy "Spencers" lazily dropping back on their palms to rise, with hands in the air to copy the rhythmic handclaps, discreetly hidden behind those pumping horns. Circa 1974/75 was a period in Northern Soul history when the most important aspect of the night was to have a good time. This USA written and British crafted 45 in drenched in "good-time" moments. THe skilled writing team of Jerry Fuller & Mark Barkan ensured "Soul Orientated Brit" Johnny Harris had the tools to work with...the result? A TIMELESS NORTHERN SOUL CLASSIC! here in it's rarest format in immaculate condition. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 182.00 Garland Green Jealous Kind Of Fella British MCA issued that wonderful Clyde McPhatter album and a procession of Jackie Wilson lps. So when I was a young lad, I did hope and wonder for many years that MCA UK may have released this masterpiece. So just imagine my delight, when just last week, I find copy complete with laminated 60s UK style sleeve and the MCA logo at the bottom. I can tell you my heart raced like I'd woke up next to Beyonce... This is the AUSTRALIAN 1969 release - but being a pom I never knew it even existed, so my excited dropped only a little to the level of two "Hairy Bikers" laying beside me. Then running my hand over laminated cover, reading the fab notes on the back. Then cascading through my head were "Girl I Love You" "Ain't That Good Enough" Forty Day and Nights" "Angel Baby" etc. I was right back up there again, feeling like that dusky Texas maiden was now downstairs cooking me a full English breakfast. To an old soul-anorak like me, finding this album, in these clothes so similar to the "fantasy" Brit-release, is darn exciting. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 55.00 Eli The Prophet Take A Little Give A Lot A now for something completely different, but it'll instantly grab you right where it hurts. Blues-man Eli Anderson gives us some Deep-down n' dirty stuff to consider. Instant bass line demand to to dance, then the snarling vocal smashes through. Briefly softened by a bongo rhythm, this is quickly squashed by some wildly enthusiastic soul-gal who does a stand-alone chorus. With the horns and the relentless driving rhythm fuse into one helluva session - that is just about as "dirty" as one R&B record could ever get -LOVE IT! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 68.00
JOE TORQUAY Posted February 29, 2012 Author Posted February 29, 2012 Sam & Kitty I've Got Something Good Select-A-Disc Arkwright Street, Nottingham a Saturday pilgrimage for so many Soul-Boys 1971/1972. I would look forward all week to my fix of Soul. Down the wooden ladder style steps into the cellar of vinyl - this was theSOUL basement, no bigger than a posh-man's toilet. The anticipation of what was new, what could we take home with us today was a pulse quickening experience. J. J. Barnes - Please Let Me In, Al Kent - The Way You've Been Acting Lately, Roy Hamilton - Crackin' Up Over You had just been re-issued by RCA. We were in Soul-Boy heaven. Just as we turned to climb those rickety steps, the mischievous Denny behind the counter, turned up the volume and dropped the needle on SAM &KITTY... Daaa,Da, Daa, Da, Daaa - I got Something Good !! My God, me and my mate "Kipper" nearly died...I'd never heard anything like it in my life... gotta have it..was it for sale? No, it certainly wasn't.. but if I came to the BRIT CLUBtonight I could hear it again. The yearning to own this record was so bad, months later I sold my soul to the Devil and purchased the bootleg of this now massive "Golden Torch anthem". This offering is of course a GENUINE AUTHENTIC REAL DEAL ORIGINAL in just sublime condition...Daaa,Da, Daa, Da, Daaa - Daaa,Da, Daa, Da, Daaa!!! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 137.00 Pat Lewis No One To Love C/w I Owe You Something One major Detroit Trophy-piece that requires no flowery words from me. Except you will need to know, for absolutely certain - this 45 has NOT been used and abused on the Northern Soul circuit. This has just emerged from an "Old School" collection accumulated during the Golden Days of Martin Koppel sending his Motor City vinyl harvests over-the-pond to enthusiastic British-Soul-Freshmen. It has sat inside one of those poly-inner brown card sleeves, that just smell of 1972. Thinking of finding MINT - examples of records of this pedigree in 2012 is frankly just "A Soul Boys Dream" Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 1,664.00 Hitsville U.s.a.
