Sock It To Us Soulgirl

This scene will die soon if everyone keeps up this pretence that northern soul is about a small black piece of vinyl/acetate!

So 'soul fans' at the Wheel and Torch had a knees up around a piano? Of course not! they travelled the length & width of the country to hear rare VINYL it is rare vinyl that is put onto CD's for you to enjoy. If it wasn't for vinyl, there would be no CD's of Northern Soul, and if the scene relied on CD's and bootlegs it would stagnate and die. I don't mind ANYONE enjoying a night out dancing to tunes, whatever the format they choose, but remember where the music came from, and support those that keep it fresh

Who says she "can't be disparaging to vinyl collectors"?

And who decides who she can be disparaging to? You and the rest of the soul police presumably?

"Don't bite the hand that feeds you"..... what the fook does that mean?

Soul Police...?..........Only Police i ever met Dave smased my face in back in the mid 80's mate, as for saying anything to anyone then hell i'll quote Voltaire."I may disagree with what you say, but i'll fight to the death, for your right to say it"

Do i have to explain "Bite The Hand"........?

Spare a thought for the chap who has spent half his life with his head buried in dusty boxes in some craphole warehouse in downtown Detroit as the locals get ready to ( slipping into ghetto slang ) "pop a cap in his white arse", whilst back in blighty his wife prepares to divorce him as he spends the kids univeristy funds.....

This chap has been buying black VINYL so we can savour our saturday nights out and leave ourselves with a treasure trove of memories.....

We have to keep searching out and learning new records otherwise we might aswell pack up and go home as the journey has ended.....imo (legal disclaimer)

:ohmy::thumbsup:

Richard! Brett's stollen your SS identity.

I sometimes wonder whether we should "spare a thought" for the people that made the music.... do they get more out of it when an original is played at a soul event, or a pressing, or a CD?

Tired Dave , Get yourself a horlicks

We do remember, and we ARE appreciative. That was 20 years ago, we are no longer impressed as we have it on CD etc. Don't make it sound like the Mona Lisa.

Well, some of us mid 80's/90's were being beaten up .. bite that! We weren't all free to do what we wanted... this is what annoys me, you all expect everyone to have been where you all have been... well, surprise surprise, we aint!

Imagine this , you go to a niter first dj up plays a 2k record he's ached and pained after for nigh on 15/20 years, finishes his set then straight after some chancer comes along with a pressing or cd he bought earlier in the day for a fiver of the same record that was played earlier.....any justice in that ?

Cds are great and have been a godsend to the scene they've introduced tacks to people etc ...but this is the soul scene in many other scenes you coudl get awy with cheating but were a little bit special and more slect that's waht sets us aprt from normal human beings .....

This thread is more Cabaret than Voltaire....dum dum

Cmon I'm sure I should get brownie points for fitting in a 80's electronica gag into the proceedings ....

.... that what? Aren't bothered about the media played? If thats what you mean mate, you're wrong on two counts:

1. I am bothered and collect vinyl, but I refer you back to your Voltaire quote... I can still defend Karens right to make her own mind up.

2. There are hundreds, probably thousands of soul fans who go out at the weekends to listen/dance to our music who don't give a flying fcuk what medium its played from!

I know its nearly time for pantomime.... but I aint Robin Hood

LOL - comedy is alive

Night people, just off to kick a "Fucking CD's Head In"...sleep tight.....

Don't get mad Brett, music is such a personal thing, this I have found to my lonely detriment throughout the last 20 years... it's so personal it's much the same as masturbation

Care bear on acid?

As repulsive as some members here maybe?

I think what Dave and Soulgirl are getting at is that they have a right to an opinion. Because it may not be a majority view amongst ACTIVE ss posters, doesn't make it wrong. Think people really need to take into account the silent majority, who go to venues to dance. That's not to say they wouldn't like OVO played, but ultimately, dancing is more important to them/me.

Sometimes the messages on here do come across rude, mainly cos the posters seem to indicate within their message that theirs is the "Difinitive" reply, and could not possibly be wrong. I'm not suggesting don't be passionate, but allow for others to feel the opposite equally as passionately!

Its the core part, but just a part. The social aspect is almost as important.

Spot on IMVHO.Didnt it all start and I hope still as being about going out listening and dancing to music and having fun. Surely ?

No your lovey dovey smiley is truly shite.

Actually most people on here are really quite nice. OK they are a little misguided, and out of synch with my current views, but generally quite acceptable.

I'm shocked.. I thought you'd like that!

Don't suggest that I am not grateful for uncovered records.. that would be insane. It would be suggesting that comedy didn't draw from Charlie Chaplin or Morcambe and Wise. Thing is, comics of today don't need the original film footage. Things have moved on technically, of course we celebrate those that took time out, got dusty heads and had orgasms in dark cellars. The future will not celebrate that, lets be honest.

Take my 10 year old Daughter. She LOVES soul but hasn't the least interest in where it came from... yet.... yet being the operative word. First you have to give birth, then you have to educate. It's the educate then give birth mentality I can't relate to.

NO YOU- HAVE TO HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO HEAR A RECORD but it seems yet again another has no idea.I know you have a fabulous collecition.PLEASE let me know your latest discovery

Cheers for that Gav. Personally been very active on the scene esp in the last 6 months. Absolutely loved the music I've heard & loved the social side of it. Am a bit lost on the "media" argument. I think Winnie has hit the nail on the head.
