Hi Pete,

Sorry mate but I have to say this record is a bit more worthy than just being called "pretty unremarkable".

The production and arrangement is bloody fantastic IMO. A true work of musical genius.

When We Get There was always a Divs record along with Peggy March, Muriel Day and Kiki Dee.

And note I never said it was crap or rubbish, I just said it was pretty unremarkable.

It's very rare that I agree with you Pete... but have to say you are 100% right on this.... Div's record from a time when DJs should have know better... :yes:

IM A DIV THEN, SO IS EVERYONE WHO DANCES TO IT AND FILLS THE DANCEFLOOR TO THE EDGE :g: BETTER NOT PLAY IT AGAIN !!

I didn't say that did I, I said at the time it was discovered back in 78 it was played alongside the records I quoted plus Judith Durham, Gene Latter, Blue Chips, Charlie Gracie etc. and was considered, rightly, a pop stomper.

I've no idea why it's been rehabilitated. It's okay, I like it, but there's a thousand better records out there. If you like it then fine, why worry about what I think of it? I was just trying to find out what was behind it's revival.

That did make me laugh mate. I've never heard anything refered to as a "Div's record". :lol:

And no I'm not taking the p*ss!

And yes I know you never said it was crap or rubbish either mate. Never mentioned you did.

Div's record or not though you can't deny the superb arrangement and production (as on all RCA release's I think).

Maybe I'm listening to it with different ears though as I have been playing and writing music (albeit not very good) for 20 years or so and find these lush string and brass arrangements both moving and powerful. I can only dream of writing such stuff mate.

And I'm not being snotty saying that I've got a better ear for music either just to make that clear. But maybe I just appreciate a tune in a slightly different way.

Saying that though....I could never put along side the likes of Murial Day etc.

I gotta agree with you there Pete. Now that is a div's record! :D

I like Peggy March as well but in the grand scheme of things where something like Eddie Parker's "I'm Gone" (for instance) is rightly seen as the pinnacle of Northern Soul, these Anka / March records are just inconsequential pop fluff.

I know that Pete, but it's just musical fashions going round in circles as always. Frankie & Johnny has seen a bit of a revival over the last year as well. Whether thats down to newish people who didn't go to wigan etc getting to hear these records for the 1st time or not I don't know, but the scene seems to have concentrating on rare and underplayed for so long, that these types of records (because they're pop fluff and not out and out soul records) have been left on shelves at home. It just takes someone to start playing them somewhere, and that's it, they're 'nice' records, midtempo, easy to dance to, which is what appeals to a lot of us old 'uns!

I understand what you're saying - I just think that this particular record is a strange one to have undergone such a reaction. Next up, Ronnie Davie, BJ Thomas (bother better than P.A.)?

VERY NICE RECORD ME THINKS !! BUT WHO AM I PITY ITS NOT THAT RARE STUFF WHAT NOBODY DANCES TOO.. YOU KNOW WHEN YOU GO TO AN EVENT AND THEY STAND ABOUT STARING AT THE WALLS AH WELL SLEEP TIME :sleep3:
