Chalky Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 Gary Rushbrooke probably got it from Dave bit later?
arnie j Posted February 26, 2012 Author Posted February 26, 2012 well this thread has certainly had some input from all you good soul folk, the reason i asked in the first place was cos i was gonna buy a gold one but wondered why sellers always state gold label,i thought i could get this immense piece of soul on original for about £60 ! how wrong was i ?,im certainly not against buying legal re issues to play at home but not gonna shell out that kind of money for a re issue so thank you all for the info and your input, btw im not closing the thread, carry on if you like,i just wanted to say thanks jason
Jumpinjoan Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 Hi Jason Thought I would post the B side up for you. Great double sider! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6bRBJnR1HI4

Dave Pinch Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 thankfully for every great expensive record theres an equally good cheap un 1
MrsWoodsrules Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 Did anyone see that Blendels Did You Mean on Dontee, on ebay tonight? It was trashed & still made $500, can't believe the prices some trashed records are getting still. Had me beedy eye on it, but no chance in that condition, just mad. Love the record though. Aid.

Dennisoul Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 Did Rob's copy come from Chris? I'm not sure Kev
Dennisoul Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 Hi Andy There must have been one before that because it definitely went for a few quid short of a grand (950 or something like that). I remember because like I said, I'd just bought mine. Without doubt one of the best tunes I own. Always play it last as I've nothing better to follow it with Hi Joan...that will be the case as you said about a previous copy for sale.....and defo one of the best records in the Dennison household, and defo not many better tunes around....x

I won it. It wasn't totally trashed. I can fix the skips. Then I have a playable copy for under $500. It would have gone for much less if not for the second bidder. I wish the label were cleaner though.
Guest sharmo 1 Posted February 27, 2012 Posted February 27, 2012 I bought mine from Boogaloo records in Leicester for £20.00 and George from Derby did as well at the same time Ray Evans had one for sale at £20.00 as I'm sure Anglo American had quite a few when that first big lot arrived from Martin's warehouse that went out the door at around £30.00 and I'm sure Tim told me he had around 80 copies including my copie I can think of around 15 folk with a green one so not really that rare didn't soul bowl have them on thier front page special's for around a fiver ? regards Simon.

Demand drives up price. I've been told that there was stock of the salvadors around in the UK, look at it now. the 100 copies of the four voices you're describing isn't that many amongst all the people that want it. I agree it's not up there with the rarest records but it's in demand and rarely comes up for sale now.
Chalky Posted February 27, 2012 Posted February 27, 2012 Wasn't either the green or thew gold first re-issue or whatever you call it booted as well making three different release? It was cheap from a few sources in the early to mid 80s from what I can ascertain with a few I know paying very little for it, £20 etc.

Manship guide says original is green label with gold text and green label with black text is either a reissue or boot.

Manship guide says original is green label with gold text and green label with black text is either a reissue or boot. I did read once upon a time the gold one was later booted or rebooted depending on your perspective? So there's at least one re-issue(?) and one definite boot?
Chalky Posted February 27, 2012 Posted February 27, 2012 quick search for scans.... REAL ONE, FIRST ISSUE BOOT.... SECOND ISSUE (however dodgy you may or may not think it is)...
Benji Posted February 27, 2012 Posted February 27, 2012 the gold ones were done from the original plates that popcorn had...whether popcorn did them or someone else got hold of the plates and did them i dont know. but i do know that the gold stamped copies didnt exist before 1998, besides the actual vinyl is different even tho the orig plate was used and the type face is new. no one had seen a gold copy before 1998 then suddenly they were everywhere selling for £150+. i think a green copy had already sold for four figures by that time...whatever..there is only one original issue ..the gold one is a re issue, 2nd issue..boot whatever you want to call it..but its not `real` mind you in these days where people pay good money for reissues ( see tempests or comedy sale threads) does paying £60 for a gold one seem too extreme dave When the gold issues came on the market they sold for 20/25 max. a piece, I bought one at the time and sure wouldn't have paid more than that. Sure price went up soon after as demand exceeded supply.

Sure price went up soon after as demand exceeded supply. This was also my experience. The price hasn't gone up that much either, I've never seen a gold copy sell for $150 much less 150 pounds. Of course, I have no idea what stuff actually sells for in a face-to-face transaction in the UK.
Julianb Posted February 27, 2012 Posted February 27, 2012 A shead load more than chuck holiday I wager. How many is that then? - seen 3 CH for sale but only one Blendels. Cheers Julian
Sutty Posted February 27, 2012 Posted February 27, 2012 four voices - there's a pale yellow reissue/boot with green print, same design, I just sold one for a tenner which is about what it's worth IMO cheers Sutty

Chalky Posted February 27, 2012 Posted February 27, 2012 Two more scans, pale yellow with green text and pale yellow with black text (unless it is a light issue with camera/scanner). Both boots I presume.
Sutty Posted February 27, 2012 Posted February 27, 2012 (edited) its the lemon with green i'm referring to, its deffo a modern pressing - i suspect there is no lemon with black pront and its the light of the scan that doesn't show up the green text. Edited February 27, 2012 by Sutty

Not a fortune for sure but more than what I paid for it, I'd guess 40-50 pounds.

What a cracking tune Bob, just love that Blendels, rather you than me in that condition mate, suppose the label worse condition than vinyl then, rare as hens, I'll just make do with my ipad version til I win the lotto. Aid.

Aid. I actually enjoy "restoring" records, it's like I'm saving a cultural artifact. I can get unbelievably messed up records to play with almost no noise. I've seen some of the doowop guys actually doing comic-book style restoration on the labels, that's next level, I'd love to do that on a few things.

I have a couple of singles that would benefit, but have never been sure of the best way.

boba Posted February 27, 2012 Posted February 27, 2012 Just curious, what's comic-book style restoration? like coloring in the labels to make them look less worn and more original, or coloring in tears, etc. I've seen pretty amateurish jobs sometimes but they still look better than the original messed up labels, and in the art / comic restoration world there are pros who could do it and make it look almost like new.
