Yeah, a good kicking is the quick and easy solution i reckon!

I am sure this subject has been on here loads of times but in the last couple of years, more niters have seen violence caused by HANDBAGGERS or P**s heads who have no interest in the soul scene, just a place for a late drink and to take the p**s out of soul fans.

Can't we bring back memberships, not letting anyone without membership to any soul club through the doors? I am all for live and let live what ever each person wears, listens to, thinks or how old they are, thats what makes the scene diverse and fun. Some guy or girl dancing on the floor trying to pull a spin or backdrop with a beer in their hand, or swilling a pint whilst asking "what's this s**t thats playing then" really does bring out the worst in me and I would love to see them taken outside and battered!!

Maybe a good start would be to stop selling alcohol? Just a thought :)

Where has the Northern dancefloor ettiquette gone, take sunday for example at the dome dayer, massive signes saying no drinks on the dance floor and what do you get pissed up twats with pint glass in hand trying to dance.

Simple really Anton get back to the old days when they would of been escorted out of the building by a few "lads" and thrown down the stairs, iam afraid the soul scene only depicts real life and we all no its all about iam alright jack f*ck you.

Yes baby the minute booze started to appear things went down hill.

Definitely don't want any venue to stop selling alcohol, certainly not for the sake of some tiny minority fuckwits.

I haven't seen drinks on the dance floor in a long, long time.

True.... First time remember seeing alcohol being sold was at Yarmouth weekender in 88/89. I went out to get something from my chalet only to be confronted with drunken moose on her knees giving a equally drunk fat bloke a BJ on the grass, something told me this alcohol and soul weren't gonna mix!!!

They ruin what would otherwise be a good nite.Throw them out as soon as they go on the dancefloor with a drink!?!?

Posted (edited)

Ive heard from a few people with the same comment.. If you curtailed the bar at a certain time stating on the flyer or door that the bar closes at a certain time might work. But its unfair on the honest punters who like a late bar.

Na... I like both ( at the right time)!!! If we have membership it gives door staff an easier way of turning away drunks that are obviously not coming for the soul, with the easy reply of " sorry soul membership only" it would go some way to getting shot of people coming that have NO interest in the music. I don't even mind p**sed soulies at least they know the score and usually behave in a reasonable way

Looking at it logically, if you start throwing people out because they have a drink on the dance floor, somewhere or other that will end up in an almighty scrap. The promoter of said event may struggle to book that venue again, or possibly anywhere else, and northern soul might hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons, could spiral, as in difficulties for anybody to book a venue?

To be honest soul nights don't need an excuse to turn people away. Saying it's a 'private party' should be enough. Door staff and promoters can pick and choose who comes in with or without memberships. Maybe promoters are chasing the door money instead of thinking about the quality of the night?

I know Winnie its a bit simplistic but I hate having to keep one eye on the drunks in case they knock you over!

I think membership is the only answer Free of course.

Somewhere you have to send away for it.

That way only true soulies will take the time and trouble to apply.

It is bloody difficult as it is getting a venue to support a promoter, soon as most hear Northern Soul it's "thanks but no thanks" but to think you can get a venue without alcohol you are living with the fairies. Unless you book a village hall that probably doesn't have a venue then it would be nigh on impossible. It is where the venue owner makes his money, all they are bothered about is bar takings. The venue hire fee usually covers the owners costs for staff etc.

It would be nice to go back to how it was in the 70's and 80's but it will never happen. I think if you asked most soulies and the were honest they enjoy a drink or three, I know I do on the rare occasions I get to have a drink.

I missed the moose at Yarmuff

The biggest problem with memberships is anyone can have one and walk through the door sober and nice, then 8 beers later your back to square one.

Most people i hang out with every saturday dont drink, but then most of them are dancers.

Well well well !! only the other night i was talking on this topic and its hard one to sort, for eg i just ran (only for a few events) a nighter in Manchester where my partner REFUSED between 30/40 people saying to them the venue wasnt for them, now the manager when he found out wasnt happy cause all he wanted was the money over the bar!! Now then other people dont care its money in there pockets and maybe turn a blind eye to it ?? In a nutshell like the comments made the REAL SOUL ELEMENT and using my best French dont want PISSED UP F...ING ARSOLES spoiling OUR nights out where alot of people travel a far distance to listen and a have a good dance with good company.I has a promoter think its about time there was a members club formed with photo id and a cost to join but would get you a discount on tickets for weekenders/nighters/dayers all the big venues i am convinced that the Piss Pot wouldnt want to pay to any Northern Soul Members Club and hence they couldnt get in to our events and spoil them !! JUST A VERY STRONG THOUGHT.. :hatsoff2: See you all out at the weekend !!!

Ian ive done the same at my night i used to put on i refused them at the door 3 young lads, i told them its a private party, never once did we advertise it off the soul scene for some of us its not about the door takings.

But that is up to the promoters to keep an eye on things and eject trouble makers. How many promoters are bothered about what is happening in the place, how many have security? Not many would be my guess.

Well its a good job there where doorman at the co-op saturday night as a local boxer/thug was in and started took 6 of them to bring him down even then they struggled.

But by the same token many do want a drink.

Well stay the fook away from me then cuz iam getting right royaley fooked off with it and we vote with our feet.

Chalky i for one is bothered and looks like Anton is aswell !! Watch what will happen in MANCHESTER 4TH JUNE all the signs will be up NO DRINKS ON DANCE FLOOR , infact will have a door person just to keep his eye on the floor, people will soon get the message i know its difficult but why should the soulies nights keep getting ruined, and this topic is becoming a more frequently spoken subject of late..

Same as mate when my new nighter appears we are having floor security and there will be no second chances out they fooking go with a full refund.

But if you stayed away from somewhere that sold alcohol you'd have nowhere to go. The large majority drink without causing a problem and those that do cause a problem are usually non scene punters. I know I don't cause a problem or spill my beer on the dance floor, I don't take my beer with me when I do manage a dance.

We have security at Lifeline who walk the room (they fully understand the scene and are pretty friendly as well, till you piss them off) and I spend a lot of the time on the balcony keeping an eye on the room. Wasn't that long ago had someone who was being a pest to the female dancers thrown out, he was a soulie as well.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love a return to the days when you went to a local soul night then on to the alcohol free all-nighter at midnight but we have to face facts it will never happen.

Agree. Thank god. Love a good drink these days when I go to a do, don't indulge much outside of that and the vast amount of people are still fine even when they are pissed. Just takes people to control their own venue in the way you outlined. If they cannot be bothered, then it is their fault and people should take it up with them...Simple.... :hatsoff2:

I was surprised too, I gave him the benefit of the doubt to start with but when dancers were forced to walk away and dance elsewhere and he moved on to another then he had to go.

drinks on dancefloor its the promoters fault

mainstream club goes get encouraged to keep their drink with them due to drink spiking

Whether you have a glass or a bottle you never leave your drink unattended.

if you are running a public event and getting new blood in then may be something you need be aware off
