well theres one on sean chapmans list for £1100 mate. On popsike selling prices have ranged from $1000 to $1900. Worth it, over the top? Guess as always up to the buyer and how much he wants that record to get one in the collection. Wouldnt mind one but theres a few hundred in the wants queues I'd pay that sort of money for first. :)

Know what you mean Grant , as you say it's entirely up to the buyer , at least it's in great nick! I don't understand some of the prices for records that are in terrible condition.

Cheers

I must be one of the few people to have had a demo and an issue at the same time. I got the issue off Ebay, saw it, no bids, offered the guy $150 and got it (this was in 2000). The day it arrived, I'd bought one off someone, might have been Kev Roberts, for £400 I think it was. The two arrived on the same day. By the weekend they had both gone. I got £1000 worth of trades for the issue.

I personally think it's worth about £800 on demo.

Bloody hell I forgot that one, and it was only 2 years ago!

I was also watching this. Thought I might bid if the the price was right. However, what limited my bid was in the detail of the postage instructions. Customs Declaration of THE FULL AMOUNT!!

Using the figures where I got caught on that with a lower value disc, it could add £12 handling charge and about 20% tax = £240. Postage quoted at $44 (£30). Total add to the selling price - £255.

I assume the buyer was aware and that it isn't a nasty shock when the little notice pops through the door rather than the disc.

I'm happy to be proved wrong if someone knows differetly and I got the wrong end of the stick

some don't like the stickers or date stamps but they add to the disc IMO.

I don't mind them either but the stamp on this one should say 'pants'

Not for me but I am surprised by the price. Has it always gone for that much?

Ive had the two at the same time. Had the demo and then one day walked into John Manships shop in Melton and he had an issue sat on the shelf along aith a Cecil Washington. Bought both of them for less than £100 (think it was£80). Sold the demo years ago and then let John have the issue to auction about three years ago.

Great record as far as I'm concerned... the epitome of the Casino sound.

I always regret not buying the demo I was offered for £100 in 1980/81

Joan, it's brill. John A originally found it in a hillbilly place in Allentown Pa. back in the 70s. Does make you wander what audience it was originally aimed for, but wasn't Vicki Baines someone else, Karen Young or something?

Don't think so, she recorded for (at least) 2 labels as Vicki Baines - Karen Young was a white UK singer, unless you mean someone else?

Same here, i bought mine off R/S at wigan still in the Christine cooper sleeve, one of my embarrasing moments at w/c, we`d spoke about the deal the week before, so when he started his spot i went on the stage, we bartered between £90 & £100 in the end we flipped a coin and it was mine for £90, before i went that night, i`d told my mam what i was buying and un beknowing to me she`d safety pinned the money in the top pocket of my shirt  how cool did i look trying to undo the safety pin on the stage surrounded by people watching richards records

Anyone know why it's a 1964 record , yet the radio stamp is two years after in 1966 ?

It's definitely 66 - most the Cameo Parkway labels have the founding date of the label at the bottom, 63 or 64

It was someone "like" Karen Young who recorded "Are You Kidding", on UK Mercury (AYK being the other side of Country Girl). Maybe that's what your'e thinking of ?

Good connection Mick, kicking myself for not thinking of it!

Know what you mean Chalky but some collectors wont have anything but minty clean!! like the day they left the pressing plant! Personally depending on rarity as long as it plays well and looks Ok then that will do if you get a minter! Well bonus in my book!!

I didn't know that, that might explain the acetate that came out of the Carlin music archive that Ady C found. :g:

yeah just about to mention that and you beat me to it....

We can find that love / Sweeter than sweet things

Back when I collected the label this was one of the double siders on Loma that I always liked Chalky, but reason for commenting on it, it also got released on the Symbol label. Never had one myself on Symbol, but remember seeing a nice issue copy round Richard Domar's some years ago ( just looked he's still got it listed, £50, what's the Loma one worth ? £30?)

Nice!! Great record that stands alongside Cecil Washington (wanted to say Joe Matthews) from the days when I was in my prime!!!

Sorry Joan, your taste is top notch except on this one :)

Can remember being up on the balcony as a teenager ,watching all the girls in the circle skirts dancing to it ... Sounded great when that instro break kicked in ,the floor went mental .

Full on floor filler record back then and I remember peeps getting all excited and saying how much it was worth etc .

Sadly I think it's just a dated record now and isn't even remotely soul :(

Country girl .... Cowboy soul !

But in fairness ,it was a scene ,a dance scene ,and records were chosen to suit the northern soul style .. Uptempo with breaks to spin to and do acrobatics .

I'm sure there are plenty of places and plenty of people who still get a lot of pleasure out of hearing this being spun :)

Posted

Well IMHO it is great Northern. We know it isn't Soul but thats not the point, it is as Nev rightly pointed out a dance scene that revolved around a beat as much as anything.

Not sure it's great ,but it could have been if the break didn't take so long to kick in :(
