Guest Dave Turner Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 Steve, page on the subject from Soulful Detroit if any help mate https://soulfuldetroit.com/archives/2/12666.html?1097727062
boba Posted February 17, 2012 Author Posted February 17, 2012 I can scan the 45 if you want to see it if I get a chance. Reading that soulfuldetroit thread made me make a connection that is hopefully wrong - "The Count" isn't the philly record dealer "the count" is he?

I wouldn't be surprised it's him Bob, but really not sure.
Steve Edgar Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 Steve, page on the subject from Soulful Detroit if any help mate https://soulfuldetroi...html?1097727062 Cheers Dave Interesting stuff mate ta I can scan the 45 if you want to see it if I get a chance. If you do get the chance Bob thanx, I can hear the difference of the Solid Hit version you played, ie. the addition of strings and the dropping of the organ. To be honnest, for me, I prefer the Mah's cut, I find it a bit more haunting. Really enjoyed the show Bob, yet more education for me, and how good is that Little Ronnie track! love it! and I'd never heard the flip of the Charts record before, spot on! Happy and Brenda Southall's version of the Masqueraders classic were 2 new ones to me too, really like 'em steve

Happy and Brenda Southall's version of the Masqueraders classic were 2 new ones to me too, really like 'em steve Thanks a lot. The other side of the little ronnie and the chromatics is a different song with a similar sound, will play it on a future show. Took me years to get the Charts record, I played the northern side and it was unlistenable (to me), then I played the a-side and it was a nice midtempo cut. The brenda southall is currently in demand with sweet soul collectors. According to the billy guy wikipedia page, the happy record also got released as the happy cats or something like that but I've never seen it that way.
Munchkin Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 great show bob yet again thanks....few newies there for me.... 1
