So, im about to pay for an acetate w/ Eula Cooper - Let Our Love Go higher & Yvonne Baker - You Didn't Say A Word on it. paying practically nothing for this, so im not terribly concerned, but is this likely something that someone had made for themselves? there is no label or release info at all on the acetate. ive attached an image.

maybe the seller is even on here?

figured ... even tho they went to the trouble of adding this to the item description:

"Other notes - this is a very rare acetate featuring the two different recording artists. Acetates are a pre-vinyl pressing of a song and are not designed to be played as frequently as vinyl as they do last as long. Only a very small number of acetates are pressed for each release before the main pressing run - just to ensure the recording sounds good etc."

Kev,

There were literally thousands of these EMI discs that were used to record "rare" sounds on back in the 70s. With the advent of vinyl carvers etc there is now the opportunity to have just about "anything" on vinyl and have it described as an acetate. The quote the seller made is true apart from the important bit. It's NOT an acetate it's a complete boot. If in doubt Mate, just post the scan up here, the boot acetates/emis/vcs are easily identified.

Dave

dave -

good call, apparently one must be more careful when purchasing music online. really too bad that folks would take advantage of others that simply love the music ... which in that regard, this will be nice to have around to listen to at least, considering i could never afford either original.

I don't think anyone was trying to con anyone else, the seller obviously realised he'd got an acetate - which it is Dave, bootleg or not - and thought it was for real. But as far back as 72, people could pay their money and choose two tracks from a list of rare tracks. I like it when some of these real old ones turn up because the records on them are so common now but must have tough at the time - for instance, I once found one with Bill Blacks Combo - MY girl josephine b/w The Capitols - Tired of running!

i have a dependency problem)

as someone else said, not paying much for it, so not a biggie. and as for drunk ... see next post in "all about soul."

Generous to a fault, as usual Pete. LOL! You may well be right, but somehow.................................well maybe I'm getting too cynical in my dotage. :D
