Fine, Fine, Fine C/w Crazy For You

Chester Pipkin is a name that appears on a multitude of 60s California creations - and once you see the moniker of this former "Squires" guitarist you know something special is sitting in those grooves.

A monster Wigan Casino, Richard Searling cover-up that was a stand-out sound of the era, it was after-all so different to the Motownesque girly tunes the punters had been spoon fed with for over a decade.

This "baby" has attitude, a fuzz-guitar rattling away in the background and then the "Magician" Al Capps adds a potent horn break, immediately followed by Bongos driving the production even higher.

So very different for the time, and with RS behind it - it became an iconic "Casino" spin that has remained near impossible to acquire. AWESOME!

I Need A Helping Hand C/w My Turn

AT LAST we've got a copy with the labels the CORRECT way round - and we could not hope for this Northern Soul classic to be in finer condition. For the NS anorak this really is something, quite pleasing.

You Didn't Say A Word

Today, what are the chances of owning one of the best-loved, most-heard and most highly regarded of Sister-Northern-Soul-Classics in near perfect condition?

Those eye-popping West Coast promo labels are PERFECT. The playing surface looks and plays MINT - oh how you gonna find one in this condition, after most-every other copy I've never encountered in recent time has endured 40 years plus of Northern Soul turntable affection!

Most all have been loved to death! But not this copy this copy has been loved so much - I doubt the previous owner let it out of his sight.

Act accordingly the chances of acquiring this NS classic in this sublime condition are diminishing by the day.

Watch Your Step

Condition, Condition, Condition

In this state, in the year 2012 - this the 1961 British press is a most difficult piece indeed. Currently the USA V-Tone release is gaining club-spins and rapidly gaining in value.

A powerful rockin' pumpin' brass laden, guitar-lead early soul Philadelphia dancer, who's recent comeback onto the Rare-Soul turntables is long, long overdue.

Jimmie And The Entertainers

New Girl

Regarded as this iconic Chicago label's rarest Northern Soul 45, certainly it is our first copy in memory and a gorgeous rubber-stamped PROMO as well.

In the style of the very finest blue-eyed styled dancers this displays all the qualities that allows the style to reach into the upper-tiers of the NS rarest of the rare values.

Along with group like James Holvay's THE MOB this style was at the time very popular as it crossed boundaries, as it also did in the Carolinas and eventually of course, they surface as British Northern Soul favourites.

This example is one the highly elusive ones, rare in the extreme and carrying all the vibrant qualities and more than a pinch soul influence.

Today this is one NS classic you just don't see for sale, act accordingly. .

Femine Ingenuity C/w Please Don't Go

Lovely and rarely seen WHITE DEMO - this is the vinyl press with the two sides that give up, totally compelling Sister-Northern Soul from either side.

Some light surface marks but plays beautifull - check out the double sound-file lifted directly off this disc. Spy the PROMO label it carries promo-man inflicted X's.

So what's not to like? Exactly! - a couple of minor flaws that pale in comparison to the abundance of class that seeps from the grooves.

Ronny Douglas

Worth Waiting For

A monster on the New York "Island" scene for decades is starting to cause a ripple or two amongst the better informed Northern Soul explorers.

Since the Al McCarther style big-city-beater was so enthusiastically received by the NS fraternity; a few equally fine and just as rare mid-pace 60s masterpieces have stepped forward to fill the vacuum left by "His True Love For You"

After listening to soundfile It will come as no surprise whatsoever that this killer was written and produced by the extremely skills Ritchie Adams the master of Big-City production.

As for Ronny Douglas - what a cultured vocal - check out his other impossible 45 on Everest, which is every note as good.

Mckinley Mitchell

All Of A Sudden C/w I'm So Glad

Not only one of this iconic Chicago label's rarest 45s but also atwo fine examples of Mckinley's deep down dirty singing style at it's most emotional.

On the 1st side he is aided by a studio full of enthusiastic ladies,giving-up a shrill non-stop chorus to smooth out his pain. Superb...

On the dae I say superior 2nd side he deserts the girls, creating an even more despairing session, as his vocals reach out to claw at his pain, resulting in even greater despondency. As the early 60s Chicago rainy sidewalks literally seep from the speakers evoking visions of a man walking away from the doors of 1827 South Michigan, Chicago knowing today he reached as far into his soul as was humanly possible.

Proper real deal SOUL on a real-deal label of huge repute.

What's So Good About Good Bye C/w I've Been Good To You

Another seriously elusive 1962 Motown British 45. But in this eye-poping condition we'd say in 2012 a near impossible acquisition.

James Bell And The Highlighters

Amazing Love C/w Poppin' Pop Corn

Genuine original FIRST press.

This James Bell and Paul Major Indianapolis collaboration crafted two very special recordings.

Topside: The James Jameson style guitar work intro is swiftly swallowed up by the seemingly shoulder to shoulder session steam with subtle horns, oohing vocal-harmony, male-group-chorus, all fused into a fantastically well constructed mid-tempo Northern Soul delight, featuring a late exhibition standard saxophone break.

Well with that level of talent in the room,. you just know the flip is gonna take a different route! and it does - a slab of Deep Funk from the top-drawer!

Two killer sides - showcasing what is possible when some local boys get together and groove...whilst still trying to upstage each other with their instrumental and vocal prowess.

Fabulous Apollos

The One Alone C/w Determination

In matters not which side you drop the stylus on - you will be treated to real-deal grassroots Detroit vocal-group Northern Soul, forgoing the more commercial influences the city's music scene was under during the mid-sixties.

The result of Val Brown's conviction to individuality, was two totally irresistible sessions. Currently receiving second-wind on the NS turntables to very appreciative dancefloors. In the unlikelihood of the dancers ever tiring of "The One Alone" ...just flip it over..

J. D. And Eddie

She's Giving Me Love C/w Now She Wants To Leave

There's been some Northern Soul underground buzz about this sultry California, horn-propelled Soul duet for quite some time, rarity and rarity alone has prevented a wider awareness,

As in the style of Casanova Two, Pic & Bill etc. this dancer instantly captures your attention, as Eddie Wilson & Big J. D. Wright spew punchy lyrics into a mix of persuasive bluesy guitar riffs and forceful horn intrusions.

The whole thing works up a storm, something Sam& Dave could not have delivered better and just incredibly hard to find!

Shout

Shout - Formerly Soul Music Issue 36

The glossy front cover alone of Chris Bartley, is worth pressing the "bid button" for.

The inside journalism is as enthusiastic as all the 60s Tony Cummings projects. Aided by Charlie Gillett & Clive Richardson they transformed the former "Soul Music" fanzine into another vehicle for the British Soul fan to discover "what's going on"

This is issue 36 in the series and would have cost you less than 8p in today's money. for the following. A Chris Bartley bio coincides with a November 1968 17 day tour . Covering a live review of his performance 3.11.68 @ the DOG HOUSE in Lancaster Gate.

Other features include the HAMMERSMITH HOTPOT 3 page editorial on the effect of BLUES on the British audiences.

This fanzine today's seems rather amateurish, but it all highligts the depth of love for Black MUsic these guys had, the passion to get their view on the streets just drips from every page.

Today 4 years down the road, copies of this fanzine is near impossible to find.

Etta James

The Soul Of Etta James - Uk Album

The irreplaceable Etta...

The cover portrays perhaps the most captivating image of the Queen of R&B and an eye-catching piece of art, and a fabulous tribute to her unrivaled career delivering the most-potent of R&B and Soul one lady could ever hope to muster.

The cover alone, should be hung in every true-soul fan's home - the music contents of the album, as you'd expect, cover her spectacular range of vocal styles.

A staggeringly RARE 1967 UK press in just flawless condition and only our 2nd copy in over 20 years.

yeah but not a great record

whoa, james bell = cheap

Never thought this was expensive ?

The three diamonds record is the harder of his 45's to find and usually more expensive .

Finding nice clean ones is usually the tricky bit :(

Both great records IMHO :)

I didn't think it was a steal. Just thought it was a little cheaper than the going rate.
