Can someone please help?

A few moths ago I heard a record called 'Danny Boy', started off slow and then sped up, female vocal, might have been a 'B' side and for some reason 'MGM' keeps popping into my mind? Might be wrong there though. The artist has completely gone out of my head, but I think she was quite well known.

Any clues please?

PS - No I haven't lost it :-) This IS the Danny Boy track that a million artists have recorded, but this version was Northern'ed up to f**k!!

I thought I had recently gotten the 45 you're talking about but it was by Jimmy Dockett on his own label so probably not. I don't remember seeing danny boy on other records. I also searched the verve listing and it wasn't there. I will see if I can google it up.

maybe you mean the song by The Spellbinders - Danny Boy it's on the 45' "Help Me"...i think it was on Columbia Records or maybe Danny Boy by Latin Breed on GC "Hard To Handle / Danny Boy"

Barbara Banks "Sonny Boy" MGM, flip to "Night Time Feeling"

Thanks again Alan for your help, I have managed to track a copy of this down for £15 + £1 P&P.

Great tune!!

If anyone hasn't heard this, give it a chance and listen it past the 35 second mark.

I never realized how many versions of this song were actually recorded until after I posted and then tried to search. Even on MGM there were a bunch of versions recorded (it looks like conway twitty had a hit with it). I'm glad you were able to find the one you were looking for, it was like a needle in a haystack.

Hi Boba, I think the conway Twitty one was 'Danny Boy' and the millions of others that were recorded.

It was my mistake and the title is actiually 'Sonny Boy'

Sorry for the confusion.

Steve

Big hit for Al Johnson, who co-wrote - show tune really, great soul version by Barbara Banks though.
