dthedrug Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 HI AS WE APPROACH THE HALF CENTURY OF MOTOWN UK RELEASES* AND NOT THAT FAR AWAY FROM THE 1st RED & WHITE $TATESIDE DEMOS, AND THE CELABRATION OF 50 YEARS OF THE TAMLA MOTOWN 500 SERIES, I thought it was time to look again at the values and what is HOT TO-DAY IN ....DOES IT HAVE TO BE MINT TO BE RARE???? HOWEVER NICE THEY ARE OR BAD, THERE IS ONLY A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF MINT ONES ABOUT, & I ONLY NO 1 SET OF MINT R&W DEMOS? AND THAT MAY HAVE BEEN SPLIT UP?? Over the last 30 years the TMG500 series has been lusted after, long before the big money went on rare Northern Soul the goal of most collectors was to complete UK soul labels, For me I tried to get every release on the TAMLA MOTOWN LABEL, And it was not until I got to know John Wilkinson from Notts, in 1970/71 that I saw or took notice of the US MOTOWN, TAMLA, GORDY, SOUL, VIP Labels, my very 1st US MOTOWN record was "Nothings to good for my baby" Steve Wonder TAMLA Records, I remember showing it to my cousin who had some Rare MOTOWN like the TRIBUTE TO UNCLE RAY LP, However it was not until 1972 that I saw my 1st RED & WHITE TAMLA MOTOWN DEMO And by the end of 74 I decided that I would give up collecting TAMLA MOTOWN UK all together after finding out that a collector who lived in Langham Place of Oxford St had as far as I was concerned every thing from LONDON AMERICAN, FONTANA, ORIOLE, $TATESIDE & TAMLA MOTOWN, This put me in a HELPLESS situation? (pun very much intended for the astute?) However in 2012 I find myself without intention having around 150 UK DEMOS out of the red & whites there are some minty ones, some ex noc ones and some really bad ones (but play great) So lets prepare for the 50th Birthday of TAMLA MOTOWN with what's HOT & what's NOT? values. :wicked:HERE ARE 4 RECORDS TO START WITH, THE TMG555 IS A CLASSIC COST ME £15 STILL MINTY THE UPTIGHT HAS NOC MINTY £10 SHOTGUN MINTY £15, GRT READY VG+ NOC Car Boot £1. 4 CLASSIC RECORDS, THAT THE WORLD KNOWS HOWEVER IN DIFFERANT CONDITION, THE ISLEY BROS "THIS OLD HART OF MINE" TO ME IS ONE OF THE VERY BEST MOTOWN RELEASES AND I PERSONALY RATE THE RECORD AS 100 X MORE DESIRABLE THAN SOME OF THE CRAP IN THE 530# DAVE
Autumnstoned Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 Hi Dave Sadly, I only have a couple of TMG demo's and they're G&W's. TMG 506 Earl Van Dyke - All For You is on popsike indicating 2 sales on ebay ( £365 and £587 ) in 2008. I remember seeing 4 Tops Shake Me Wake Me on JM's auction go for £175 a couple of years ago. Dunno about values really, but agree TMG 555 is an absolute classic with a good flip too! ATB Mike
