Warehouse Find I Wonder How Many

Ted Massey

Recommended Posts

He's had some good quality Northern Oldies up over the last couple of weeks, not really noticed any duplicates though - and mainly demos - reckon he may have access to a library/radio station stock.

this is clearly store stock and not library or radio station stock. there are no markings on anything and the records are pretty much unplayed.

hope not.

but if the case,i will let the rich people pay the high prices.

i'll wait for the 50th copy of each & then bid, lol.

it's a gamble though, i doubt there would be 50 copies of anything and there's no way to tell without seeing their stock. Maybe they have 2 copies of something and you miss out. I wonder what "warehouse find" it was though -- I don't know what record warehouses would be around where I live. Obviously they could have gotten the stuff from far away.

Could be label/company agent stock? If so could be small multiples. Anyway, looks like a serious find.Who'd a thought it in 2012.?

yeah I know someone who hit an amazing promotor's collection that had almost anything, but no more than two copies of everything.

it's weird that this stuff is mostly verve

Surely, if this was indeed 'Store' stock then there would be some issues in his listings rather than the mint demos (of all genres) that he appears to be selling?

I've actually been through unopened store stock (in the back of an actual store) that only had promo copies of polydor titles. I got some copies of vaneese and carolyn "just a little smile" and they were all promos. I sold them to barrie waddington as unused store stock (which they were) and he was annoyed with me when he got them that they weren't actually stock copies. I guess that explains why some polydor stock copies are so rare, if even the stores were carrying promos.

Either way, I have no idea what this deadstock is. I'm just pretty sure it's not from a library or radio station as they would mark up their copies. I should maybe just call them or something or knock on their door. I don't think they would appreciate it though.

I think your all missing the point. This is part of the mountain of records that Mr Bicknell predicted, and there are hundreds of copies of every shrine record, 150 copies of G. Pepp and Esther Grant. Every record there is in fact, and if the guy is black then they are all bound to be all soul records!!! Priceless.....lol

the bicknell mountain was supposed to come from people dying off or selling off in the UK, right? Maybe this is somehow a much much larger mountain, let loose to destroy the scene altogether with things like the 2000 missing copies of the hopkins bros.

That was the "Bicknellhorn" this is the "SoulsourceHorn" of mountains..By the time this post has finished every record will be worthless because this guy has them all in massive quantity..2000 Hopkins bros, by the end of this discussion there will be at least 5000..

Written by Stan Vincent. I remember Ian Levine and I talking to him at Midem back in the 90's. The writer of the million seller Ooh Child -Five Stairsteps. Stan was a regular writer/producer for Buddah and distributed labels around 1968-74.

Boy this looks RARE....never seen it, apart from Soul Sam playing at the Kings Hall,Stoke. Unlike Billy Davies on the same label which featured heavily at Selectadisc in 1972 via the 3 for £1 bin. I left it.....but The Valentinos-Sweeter... and Parliaments-Heart Trouble were a different story :D

Just talking to a bloke who lives in Whitechapel. He reckons there's a garage storage place there with over a million US 45s from the 60s in there and he wants to sell them....Off to check after work. I mentioned the Shrine label and he thought there was a few boxes of 'em....

It is a rare 45. The copy that just sold is the 6th documented copy (there might ofcourse be more, but no one has stepped forward with info about it). It has been a "known" and hunted 45 for at least 13 years.

A great find, he's listing all sorts including the rare and not so rare Velvet Underground 45s--making $20 to $250 a piece.

Certainly 3 Tony Middletons a couple of Velours so far.

All radio Station stock had to be pressed at some point and sent out to individual stations 10s of thousands in USA in the 60s.

So it was somebodys job to mail them out to local record pushers such as "Ed Chips"...bound to have come from a local warehouse and probably been stripped in the past of the rare Beatles, garage, Phyc etc

Good luck to him

¹ Postage is very high for individual cheaper records so not really worth doing unless you buy a lot

Been a few decent things on MGM as well though

Some of the Mirwoods he has sold are the MGM manafactured copies, with the bed matrix.

Karate is MGM manafactured as well, with the same MGM matrix in the run out.(Looks like a bed or two arrows pointing in opposite directions)

So a very strong MGM connection, but not all of them.

Ted, the guy in Whitechapel has about 50 copies of J D Bryant on Shrine. My advice if for you to sell your copy quick before the market gets flooded and the price comes down :wink:

Forget that Shrine stuff Steve. Look what he's got now!!!!
