I always remember many years ago buying " Wendal Parker - my love's on ration - Capricorn " which is an instrumental, and a very shakey one at that, very poorly recorded, sounds like it was done in someones potting shed at the bottom of the garden, I still play it at home sometimes to cheer me up.......it's so crap. Liamgp
Percy Sledge's 'When a man loves a woman' has a terrible backing. When Sledge heard it, he insisted it had to be re-recorded - only for the first verson to be released (and become the first 'deep soul' number one record). Dayo
Just Ask Me. Lenis Guess (.com) Agree - there's defeinitely something garage like about that one. On the subject of poor recordings, always thought it was a shame that the Fuller Brothers classic didn't have much more punch. Poorly mastered perhaps? Hmmmm..... idea for a thread. I'm off!!!!! Richard Bayley
Tomagoes "Really, Really Love You" - doesn't get much more stripped down that that (and all the better for it!) Link to comment Social source share
Paul R
Leah Dawson "My Mechanical Man" on Magic City. I wonder if that was before or after Choker Campbell was at Motown. Also Lorenzo Manley "Swoop Down On You". I still love both tracks though Paul Link to comment Social source share
Guest ShaneH
love its alright - jesse james (i think i have the title/artist right there ) that one always sounds really tinny too. weird production. i also believe a lot of your big 70s fans dislike the 60s stuff because of the production and not neccessarily the song. i have friends on the modern scene who tell me this. JM This was to my knowledge the first time (1977-ish) a Northern Soul collector (can't say who) erased the vocal of a Four Seasons STEREO LP recordings, were put it on cassette tape posted it to Bob Cattaneo and out pops 500 neat looking 45s . That could be the reason it sounds so bad.. but a pair of great instrumentals on a great design label. Link to comment Social source share
