Guest Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 (edited) 7 ³s I use the Record Collector standard to grade my records - as below: M is ONLY for reissues / new releases / sealed records M- is a pretty much unplayed record for me - any obvious signs that a record has been played and I usually downgrade to an EX+ EX+ is a very strong grade for me - just showing some signs of being played but no noise / cue burn / crackle / styrene burn at all. VG+ is for records that have obviously seen some wear and have had a good few plays and may even have light intro crackle but play very, very well. VG is for records with quite a bit of wear and surface markings and some noise / crackle but still a very good player VG- is my lowest grade and VG- records for me are in bad shape - lots of sound quality deterioration and many, many surface marks - not nice. All media links are directly underneath each item in red - just hover your mouse over the link and when it turns blue click on it and it will take you directly to the YouTube page or my own soundfile / scan. *********************************************************************** Rimshots 'Soultrain pts 1 & 2' (A-1 / USA / 1970s / VG+) £10 ( A much underrated / overlooked 'backing' band but one who played a very important role in the evolution / development of the hugely influential New Jersey scene in the early-mid 70s - here we get 2 totally cool and laid back funky instrumentals that laid down a blueprint for many others who came afterwards - lovely copy of a killer 45.... ) Lamont Dozier 'I Wanna Be With You' (ABC / UK / 1974 / Ex+) £5 ( Good copy of this cool 70s Northern Soul midpacer - Lamont's voice could melt granite... ) August & Deneen 'We Go Together' (ABC / UK / 1970s / VG+) £5 ( First UK press (from the mid-70s) done to satisfy the then MASSIVE demand from the Northern scene for this terrific dancer - flip was also enormous, 'Like Adam & Eve' The Reflections - good copy here all things considered - few marks / scuffs but a good/loud player.. ) Carl Graves 'Baby, Hang Up The Phone' (A&M / UK / 1974 / Ex+) £5 ( Just a monumental 2 stepper - big personal fave... ) Kenny Gamble 'The Joke's On You' / 'Loving Me Don't Stop' (Arctic / USA / 1970s / Ex+)£15 ( Seeing how a genuine OG will set you back the best part of £1000.00, I think we can safely assume that this is a later press? Creative Source 'Pass The Feeling On' (Polydor / 1975 / USA / VG+) £8 ( TUNE...been a long time since I listened to this - 20 years? May I say that I think these guys are one of the most underrated groups of this era - their stuff always had an 'edge' if you know what I mean - quirky as hell, and, this is a big fave of mine - the male / female vocal interplay is just magic - killer 45 - that flute solo just floored me...I also have a UK copy for £5...same condition....Michael Stokes was a studio magician... ) Jose Feliciano 'Hi-Heel Sneakers' / 'Hitchcock Railway' (RCA / UK / 1968 / Ex+) £5 ( Beautiful condition copy for this quality double-sider - topside is done in a kinda 'Bossa Nova' style and flip is also great... ) Susan Coleman 'The Age Of The Wolf' (Remmix / UK / 1970s / Ex+) £8 ( Another 'pressing' done over here in the UK for the ever-hungry Northern Soul scene...this one is a one-sided demo copy - the flip is totally blank... ) The Ad Libs 'Dance With Me Children pts 1 & 2' (Right On! / USA / 1977 / M-) £10 ( My eyes always light up when I come across anything I've not yet heard on this label so I was pleased when this popped up - seems to be Canadian-only? Storming uptempo Disco-Soul which actually sounds like a proto House track at some points - the flip really hots up....ok - so, it's not as good as some of the other stuff on this ever-giving label like The Crow, Rozaa & Wine etc etc but it's definitely ticking several boxes....great condition... ) Harlem River Drive 'Seeds Of Life pts 1 & 2' (Roulette / USA / 1972 / Ex+) £30 ( Just so good to have this incredible 45 in stock again - Eddie Palmieri's at the helm for this amazing Latin-Jazz / Funk workout - beautiful copy of a stunning 7"... ) Earnest Jackson 'Reaching Out For Your Love' (Royal Shield / USA / 1982 / Ex/M-) £30 ( Sleeve is a little bit worn but vinyl seems unplayed to me..?
