Briank Posted February 4, 2012 Posted February 4, 2012 (edited) I need your help to determine if this record is the group Upfronts or someone else. Thanks for all input. Edited February 4, 2012 by briank
boba Posted February 4, 2012 Posted February 4, 2012 are you going to post anything else like audio, provenance, etc. or is that scan of the acetate the only evidence being provided? anyways, you should contact marv goldberg, the guy who does all the doowop interviews, as he probably would have some info.
Briank Posted February 4, 2012 Author Posted February 4, 2012 (edited) I'm having trouble adding the audio from the Cloud. Finally got it done. Edited February 4, 2012 by briank
boba Posted February 4, 2012 Posted February 4, 2012 Are you asking if this is the same group as the Upfronts on Lummtone out of LA? Because it's clearly not, the lead singer is clearly White and I'm not sure it's even soul (it is sort of belgian "popcorn" ish). What suggested the connection to the Upfronts? Or are you talking about a different Upfronts? Thanks.
Briank Posted February 4, 2012 Author Posted February 4, 2012 I said the Upfronts because that is the only group I found that had used the same title as this one on the 45. I never heard the song before by anyone, so I don't know if it's the same or not. Ok, now you are telling me it does not sound like the Upfronts. Then who does it sound like? The other side is titled ''so much in love with you'' if that helps. I would put that up, but someone scratched it really bad so it can not be played.
Godzilla Posted February 4, 2012 Posted February 4, 2012 Sounds like a Gerrry and the Pacemakers demo.

Did you also try posting on a more rock-oriented message board? Because this doesn't sound like soul music at all so people here probably wouldn't be much help. Sorry I have no idea who it might be. Thanks.
Briank Posted February 4, 2012 Author Posted February 4, 2012 Thanks for your input. Are there not many white northern soul 45s out there? I really did not think this sounded like rock to me. It does sound something like Gene Pitney might sing, no?
Briank Posted February 4, 2012 Author Posted February 4, 2012 No I did not. I thought it sounded more on the soul side than rock side. You did say it might be somethink like Belgium popcorn sound, right. That would not be a rock' record imo.

Briank Posted February 4, 2012 Author Posted February 4, 2012 Ok, thanks for your input. Hopefully someone else can shed some light on the song.
