Ian Seaman Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 Anyone tell me what releases this got please ?? Thanks, Ian.
Soul-slider Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 A speeded up bootleg credited to Eddie Holland. A dubious blank label A proper/legit one on Motown, late 80's with picture sleeve but a 'mixed' version (yuk!)
Geeselad Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 I started a thread on this a while back, I must of been really out of it when I saw an original 6ts issue @ keele in the 80's as I'm enthatically told it doesnt exist, but there still a bit of me that says I saw it in a box!
Ian Seaman Posted February 2, 2012 Author Posted February 2, 2012 just found a 1986 German LP "Motown remembers Marvin Gaye" in a pile of LP's a Polish girl gave my Mrs at work !! It has a decent version on it, wouldn't say it was a yuk mix but as good as a 60's release ! Ian.
Chalky Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 The 80's release with synth is terrible IMO. It was released as the flip to I think The World Is X Rated. I remember buying it and was so p*ssed off when I played it thinking it would be the original 60's take...
Ian Seaman Posted February 3, 2012 Author Posted February 3, 2012 the LP does have a poor version of The world is rated X !! Doesn't sound too bad to my cloth ears !! so i take it the original 60's take is bootleg only then ?? Ian.
Philippe Posted February 3, 2012 Posted February 3, 2012 (edited) It's also on the CD "The Master". te]; LP (M): Q-HBM-0179-NN1 29-Jan-65 [acetate]; LP (M): Q-HBM-0179-NN1 31-Jan-65 [acetate]; 45 (M): CBMN 0166-NH1 Mar-86; LP (S): Motown 6172 Motown Remembers Marvin Gaye [with overdubs added 1986] 25-Apr-95; CD (M): Motown 530 492 2 The Master 1961-1984 ecorded Hitsville, completed 29-Jan-65 ; produced by Brian Holland, Lamont Dozier 29-Jan-65 [acetate]; LP (M): Q-HBM-0179-NN1 [ Edited February 3, 2012 by Philippe

Benji Posted February 3, 2012 Posted February 3, 2012 A speeded up bootleg credited to Eddie Holland. A dubious blank label A proper/legit one on Motown, late 80's with picture sleeve but a 'mixed' version (yuk!) And on the "Hitsville Masters vol.1" bootleg LP from the early 90s I think?

The vocals are the same but synthesisers are added to the backing or the whole backing is done on synth. I can't remember 100% it has been some years since I heard it, I very nearly binned it when I bought it and played it!!!

Soulfulsolutions Posted February 3, 2012 Posted February 3, 2012 I have a tape that the late and missed Alan Pollard sent me some years back. I am 100% certain he'd told me he had just cracked a deal for a whole stack of Jobete 10" acetates, most of which he commited to the tape, some great tracks, particularly "Lonely lover" and I only mentioned it today to someone else that there was also a copy of "Abraham, Martin and John". I do remember at the time a lot of these Jobete acetates up for auction, cited as one-offs, maybe John Manship, but I'm not that clear on that bit, but most fetched £100 and more. I will have to dig the tape out to list the other tracks, which if they are all unissued or alternate takes may confirm that what I have on tape is an acetate recording of "Lonely lover". Lee
Guest in town Mikey Posted February 3, 2012 Posted February 3, 2012 Could have had a Frankie Beverley on Sassy, or Anthony & the Aqualads. But oh no. Get the Marvin Mikey.
