Was blown away on visit to Dublin Northern Scene

Imagine a venue filled with a enthusiastic knowledgable buzzing crowd of young keen soulies, average age 25 ish, all up to just enjoy a good nite of soul, knowing what they want and knowing they are going to get it

Imagine a set of local djs playing full original sets that was so fresh and well thought out that could blow many sets have heard recently in uk well out of the water, not by value or rarity but simply by the way they were put together and received by crowd

Imagine a farewell performance by a regular guest dj overrunning to an about two and half hour most enjoyable and memorable finish

Imagine a place which had all the good things about the northern scene present in abundance and none of the crap that find on current uk scene

Dublin last nite imo was that place

Full report and photos on way, along with related articles

just wanted to pass on thoughts while fresh

thanks to all involved

mike - many thanks to all the 'tourists' who came across for what was a memorable weekend. to all the deeajys in both rooms - thanks for the fantastic sets (danny will organise playlists soon), the great vibes and the friendship. i didnt get around to say hello/thanks to everyone so hope this short note will suffice. i am loath to single one person out but i think as it was Carls farewell appearence it's only fitting that i take a moment to thank himself and maria (and coterie of friends) who have supported and promoted the IRish rare soul scene both through deejaying and positive reviews - we all wish them well in the future.

i think Dan asked when the next one was on - lets just say "we're working on it"

Well said Joe.

Let me just add my thanks to all who made the weekend so special.

Special mentions to the travelling djs......Dave Miller, Steve Thomas and of course Carl Willingham.

Big shout too for the travelling army of soul fans who add so much to our scene when they come over.

Hope we see you all again soon

Just found my head after another trip over the water to see the Dublin crowd...Its nights like this that i really go for...Good honest people with a passion that makes us what we are...Nice to see my old freinds..Pip,Al,Brian,Danny,John and the rest..

The place was a third full on entry but it had a good feel..Good honest sets by al the local lads and Steve Thomas..Some people can really go over the top on the tunes that cost a small fortune, plenty of great tunes that don't cost the earth but still have the same power they did when you first heard them..Great young local crowd and a good mix of others from the uk made this a special night...Carl Willingham to end the night, what more can i say over 2 hours of heart, passion, sweat, drinking, dancing, smiling, crying, hugs, kisses and lots lots more..Remember, its not the size that counts all the time, quality over quantity every time and if you can have both then everyones a winner...Thanks to all the crowd in Dublin and my special freind Wendy..See you all later this month for another night of doing what we do best, loving this scene..Lots of bullshit out there but they can't take away what we all had on Saturday night, true passion that you can't really put into words..To all the good soul people out there i say keep on keeping on...

Damn and Blast,

Little-Stevie, what regrets i have that your sound advice to take the trip to Dublin was ignored - rashly i thought that i may have had my quota of wide eyed fun for the weekend...ARGGHHHHH!

One consolation was that bored at home i switched on Solar radio only to hear Mark "GOD" Bicknell play 2hrs of quality tunes - The Volancano's - A Lady's man, what a fu##in tune!

Probably should be on another post, but thanks Mark Bicknell for your set at CIS on Saturday night and cheers for the Sunday. It ain't quite gonna be the same.

HI TO EVERYONE WHO WAS AT THE ROWING CLUB DUBLIN. CARL AND I ARE JUST ABOUT RECOVERED. IT'S ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO ARTICULATE JUST WHAT THE PEOPLE AND SCENE IN DUBLIN HAS MEANT TO US OVER THE 5 YEARS OR SO. PAUL DAVIES [ THROUGH OUR LATE DEAR FRIEND JOHN, AKA ROSS] ORGINALLY INVITED CARL OVER AND A SHARED PASSION WAS IMMEDIATELY FORGED. WE HAVE BEEN FORTUNATE TO FIND GENUINE FRIENDSHIPS THAT TRANSEND THIS LITTLE SCENE OF OURS AND THAT WE HOPE WILL CONTINUE LONG AFTER CARL HAS SPUN HIS FINAL 45. THERE ARE SO MANY PEOPLE TO THANK THAT I'M AFRAID TO LEAVE ANYONE OUT. YOU ALL KNOW WHO YOU ARE BUT ALONG WITH PAUL AND BARBARA, SPECIAL THANKS TO THE DUNN BROS. KARL MITCHELL AND LISA, JOE MORAN AND DANNY DUGGAN. THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO CONTRIBUTED TO THE BEAUTIFUL WATERFORD CRYSTAL VASE PRESENTED TO CARL AT THE BEGINING OF HIS SPOT, ALONG WITH ALL THE PRECIOUS MEMORIES WE WILL CHERISH IT ALWAYS. ON THE NIGHT EMOTION GOT THE BETTER OF ME AND FOR ONCE IN MY LIFE I WAS UNABLE TO EXPRESS HOW I FELT. I KNOW OUR IRISH FRIENDS CONSIDER CARL AS ONE OF THEIR OWN AND HE FEELS THAT TO BE SUCH AN HONOUR. CARL WANTS EVERYONE TO KNOW HOW MUCH HE HAS ENJOYED HIS VISITS AND APPRECIATES THE SUPPORT HE HAS RECEIVED FROM ALL OUR IRISH FRIENDS. "CAN'T GET OVER THESE MEMORIES" KEEP SAFE, MARIA AND CARL.

Blown away sums it up. It was my first visit, but defo not my last. I still havent got over the enthusiasm or the friendliness of everyone I met there. Thats one night I wont forget. A big thank you to all the people who made us visitors so welcome. Including Danny, for responding to my panicky emails about b+b`s. Wendy for putting 4 of us up, even though she didnt know 2 of us. And the lad who gave me a big hug on the dancefloor when I was reduced to tears by the music. Didnt catch the name, but thanks. By the end of the night I was speechless, and that doesnt often happen! I should also thank the lady at customs for making my first trip to Ireland that bit more memorable!!!!
