Magnetics-lady In Green

That saves me writing a reply. But i suppose I could add that yes the diffrence is in the mystique. "Heart.." is a good tune but not unique in the way that "Lady in Green" is ' Lady in Green' could well to be as timeless as "Gypsy Woman".

agree with this :D

have been listening to both sides this morning and think heart of stone while v good has dirge-like elements. lady in green is a unique sound, unlike anything else, very atmospheric, beautiful record...pure northern soul for me

Yes, it does have that special magic that the very best of Northern records have, doesn't it?

Great Northern Soul but most of the"Magnetics" (whichever group) are better than the Bonnie release, Count The Days, When I'm With My Baby, Look On Your Face, I Have A Girl.............

Got to agree. Lady in Green is vastly overarated but the other's that you mentioned are all top notch Northern with soul. "When I'm with my baby" is one of my all-time favourites.

I remember being at Rod shards stall just before he had packed in and him telling me Dave withers had just found one in the states in a second hand record shop that an hour before dave evison had just been in and missed it, just out in the shop in a pile of records.Think it went to butch.

I remember that one, he sent me a list with it on, minimum bid £500. So i called him after a day or so & asked what it was up to, no ones bid he said, so i said i'd go the £500. I called him back an hour or so before the auction closing time & i was the top bidder, then called him at the end & he said butch is having it. Strange auction that was.

You was robbed mate.

Fine idea for a request Saturday night though. Sorry Karen. But I think we'll be in with a shout with that one as opposed to Williams & Watson ...

Magnetics on Bonnie - rare Detroit / northern soul 45 "Lady In Green" b/w "Heart You're Made of Stone"

logo_paypalPP_16x16.gif 28$7,000.00

Not specified7h 58m

anyone bidding on the above?? Personally i'm content with my re-issue...... What do people think of the 45 (both sides)?

cheers,

Carl

The worst of the Magnetics 45s I.M.H.O. the best to me is" I HAVE A GIRL " also like the LEE McKINNEY & MAGNETICS - I'LL KEEP HOLDING ON - SABLE think this must be dog rare though, as I've never heard it played out. Was told Kitch had a copy? Would love to hear it out, I'll ask Dickie Watt if he has it. What about you Ted? have you got it?

LADY IN GREEN - rarity over quality me thinks.

Yes i have it played it at Bretby reunion and always at Albrighton'i think for pure Northern Soul "When im with" is the best followed by I have a girl which even the oldies crowd dance to by Lady in green is the goose bumps one IMO

Legend has it that Bob 'Detroit' Foster from Llandudno had 3 copies and sold them in the 80s for relative peanuts along with the rest of his collection.

I heard of the rumour that he had a 1 or 2 copies, i managed to get lester Tipton of him via Bob Brady for 20 quid ! in 78, to think he flogged them all for railway memorbilia!!

[it's Beer memorabilia. Railway memorabilia would be far more interesting. I received a package from him recently, I opened it with trembling fingers as I had a gut feeling I knew what was inside. Sure enough my worst fears were realised as I stifled a scream and withdrew his latest 70s Reggae tape. And to think we went half shares for him to go to New York in 1971 for records (my missus wouldn't let me go). ]

People are right, Lady In Green is unique. Uniquely rubbish. Never has such a crap song been so overrated on the scene. Bland in the extreme. "She Had Such A Sweet Smile" - I doubt she'd still have it if she heard that pile of dross. There's no way he ever pulled her after that rubbish. "You penned a song for me - it was $hit - here's the flex from the kettle - go hang yourself".

The Ra-Sel "I Have A Girl" is the best, followed by "I'll Keep Holding On". Lady in Green really is turd. If it wan't by The Magnetics and wasn't a hard one to get, it'd be a £10 tape swappers 45 that would hardly ever be bought. And this of course is only my personal opinion and I know some of you like it. But you're wrong

Lighten up fella and get off your conceited high horse  Who are you, some sort of soul judge that decrees this is good? We're all entitled to our opinions  I love black male group harmony soul, but this track does nothing for me. Personally. As I said. Jeepers, I post a tongue in cheek comment and get a reply like that - lighten up you boring sod. Are you honestly telling me this is a better record male black group harmony wise than the Caesars (Lala) I Love You on Lanie. I think not. Come to Soulsville in Leeds that me and Jamie run or better still come to the Blackpool alldayer tomorrow where we're DJing and then tell me I have no appreciation of male group harmony soul. Sanctimonious oaf. Your post lacked logic and humour. It's idiots like you with no sense of humour or perspective that sometimes makes this otherwise excellent site a little tiresome.
