Guest marco Posted May 29, 2013 Posted May 29, 2013 This is one of the few records that would benefit from having the vocals removed & being turned into an instrumental dancer (the vocals are that poppy and crap). Can't say its a track I'd ever want to listen to away from a nighter venue, much better sticking with sumat with decent soulful vocals for real listening purposes. I tend to agree with you - but boy does it (and she) sound good when you're blocked on the dancefloor at a nighter!
Popular Post Corbett80 Posted May 29, 2013 Popular Post Posted May 29, 2013 Flying headbutt allnighter northern of the highest magnitude 5
Soulhawk1960 Posted May 29, 2013 Posted May 29, 2013 Just listened to it for the first time and I love it
Arthur Fenn Posted May 29, 2013 Posted May 29, 2013 no yes is the ultimate tune ever, but never brings it to Berlin, maybe this July he will, yeah, remember Mick when he turned to us & said "you expecting an oldies night" kin brilliant! only one person on this planet could say that , oh! & for me Jean is one the all time greats, energy & atmosphere thats why we travel 2
Guest giant Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 I'm guessing this was done without him knowing, snide trick that IMO. snide is understatement ,no doubt someone snide will do a carver from that youtube clip.
Kev Cane Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 (edited) I do think some have a tendency to think that we're all influenced by the rarity of a record rather than its content, which in my case just isnt true. I've heared this said of records like Buddy Smith and the Prophets (Shrine). I had no idea of their rarity when first hearing them, just that they were both utterly amazing records. Not a big fan of Love Slave though, but can completely get why some would like it, again like JC when bursting out of the speakers at a nighter. Right there Byrney, but IMHO Buddy Smith is not up for debate, plain and simply an incredible SOUL record, some might say its Northern, some would even say its Deep, rare or not rare just incredible. Antellects on the other hand does nowt for me, and can understand debate rarity over quality etc Kev Edited May 30, 2013 by kev cane 1

Popular Post Steve L Posted January 25, 2019 Popular Post Posted January 25, 2019 Just re-read this old thread, all those who said this record was "poppy" and not very good need to go & give their head a sheck to coin a phrase! One of the finest northern tracks ever to grace the scene, a perfect dancing record which sadly I haven't had the opportunity to do so for a long time now....... 4

Popular Post Speedlimit Posted January 27, 2019 Popular Post Posted January 27, 2019 Poppy my a..e as Jim from royal family would say this is about as far removed from pop as you could possibly get. Some folk need a ear test lol. One that still gets me to the floor when I hear it :-):-) 4
Corbett80 Posted February 6, 2019 Posted February 6, 2019 (edited) It's proper on every level. Smash the place up northern. Then when this one ends you get the Mighter Lovers - wallop. Edited February 6, 2019 by corbett80

Note to self: get back down those stairs- Soon! 4

Ok it might not be as black or soulful as some southern soul artist, but we aren’t talking chill out rooms here. It is a full on dancer, the type of record the niter scene has thrived on and the thpe of record it is crying out for now. 2

Not The Antellects or Mighty lovers, the c/u. I need to hear it! It's a one-off Decca acetate - unknown artist, title "I Wanna Know" - which Butch has been playing for well over 20 years as Jean Carter. It's absolutely brilliant dancefloor dynamite, proper Northern Soul, old school, 100mph and atmospheric. It's not available on YouTube but it should be on this recording live from the 100 Club in 2001 - It's after Jesse James "Love Is Alright" (another one of his brilliant one-off discoveries) at 21 minutes in. If you don't feel it, you had to be there. Edited February 6, 2019 by markw 7 1

Guest BabyBoyAndMyLass Posted February 7, 2019 Posted February 7, 2019 That falls into what I would call the 'Northern soul' category, fully driving girlie dancer, absolute quality! What can you say though? Butch innit! That whole tape is soul gold! Stellar, thanks lads for turning me on to it!

When ever I see butch he knows of what I'm gonna ask him to play. . This little beaut .my musical tastes may have mellowed over the last few years .to more crossover and modern but get this on the decks and I'm there full on ripping the floor up. 4

Its the whole package that makes it a classic. Poppy and crap? Never heard such poppy cock. Hearing this out at 3 am full blast is what it all about. Can't argue with the last paragraph though. 2

Of course it depends on the tempo you prefer at whatever stage of the night you’re at, but whether it’s an exclusive to Butch or one of three known copies, he sure has the magic touch.
Popular Post Baz Atkinson Posted April 25, 2019 Popular Post Posted April 25, 2019 Mighty Lovers cover up is the dogs dandles never been so excited to hear a record since the Just Brothers and early days of Jesse James, the clip above does not do that record justice. Love Jean Carter also its longevity says the lot. I rarely get to hear Butch these days last time was Guys 60th but the MIGHTY LOVERS is the essence of the northern soul scene played loud its simply mind blowing. 4
Lucky One Posted April 25, 2019 Posted April 25, 2019 Brilliant record simple as that. All credit to Butch for getting hold of this little wonder he is the best DJ the scene has ever had. 2
Corbett80 Posted April 26, 2019 Posted April 26, 2019 Am i going mad or was there also an 'Original Matadors' cover up and a 'West Coast Distributors' one that Butch was playing at one time?!
