Did you read the article? Nobody even knew where she was in the US or where she was really from.

Betty played quite a few club dates in Florida in the mid 60's (some around Miami) ..

but then loads of non-local soul singers did dates in Miami, so I guess that wouldn't have been a great indicator that she was actually from Florida.

Southern soul fans had been trying to track her down for years and it was one of them that eventually 'unearthed' her around 2004 and told her how many fans for her old recordings there still were around the world.

I love her UK only LP, the aptly named "Soul Perfection"

She did Brooklyn last October.Highlight for me was "I'm evil tonight".She told a couple of stories of her early days in between songs.

"12 red roses" does it for me as well.

That was one of the first LPs I ever bought and I must have played it a thousand times.

We loved putting her on stage here Kev, what a great weekend that was - Harvey Scales, Renaldo Domino, Don Gardner, Vernon Garrett, Lee Fields, Tami Lynn and then Betty closing out the show with an epic set, she was a total pleasure to work with too, good times

Strange, there was a VERY similar article in another Connecticut paper, I believe, around the time she resurfaced in 2005. I was at that New Orleans show in spring 2005, just her second one after a long hiatus, and she had half the room in tears.

Betty Harris is one of my ALL time faves. I just published a book on formal territorial empires, and I thank her in the preface for inspiration (along with Irma Thomas). Not sure if she would approve of the material, but I listened to her for many many hours while writing it!

"Trouble with my lover", "lonely hearts", "what did i do wrong" - and the totally uplifting "love lots of loving" with Lee Dorsey. Beautiful stuff!!
