This time I've gone back to the 60's singles; some unknown, some very well known. The first half is all UK label stuff and the second half are US releases. Some overlap of course. We start with a couple of very obscure popcorn tracks from 61 and 63 respectively, then there's a flurry of excellent mid-60's beat 45's, the Dodos track is a previously unknown (to me) version of Jon Gunn on Deram, The Youth is an obscure Claire Francis production, and the Barry Hopkins is an ultra-obscure pop-Northern dancer from 1970. The UK section ends with a phenomenal Hammond instrumental from the Soul Agents. Pick of the US stuff are Jackie Burns old Stafford cover up (actually from a UK MGM copy), the fabulous Jan Bradley, Len Barry's brilliant version of The Shirelles classic and the truly moving Manhattans original of The Uniques big reggae hit Out Of Love. I sneaked the Samantha Jones UK only release in at the end because I love it so much, and also three quarters of Earl Grant's obscure instrumental version of the Ben E King classic. So 70 minutes worth of "interesting" 60's 45's for you to lend an ear to.

Andy the tune of Bobby Vee, well the main riff anyway, sound to me just like 'Nine times out of ten'!

Hi Pete

I always loved that Action single ( Since I Lost My Baby on the flip ). First heard it on a EMI compilation ( My Generation ) which came out about 1977 (Mods & Rockers illustration on the cover ) Had stuff like Yardbirds - Happenings 10 years Time Ago , Tomorrow - My White Bicycle, Terry Reid - Hand Don't Fit The Glove ( that's a great track incidentally which would have fitted into your podcast nicely ), Shotgun Express - Feel The Whole World Turn Around , Downliners Sect and several others which I can't remember now. I found the action single on a Market Stall outside Swiss Cottage library - this was about 15 years ago and the guy wanted £6.00 if I remember right. Didn't have the cash on me at the time and of course when I went back the next week, it had gone. Always regretted not just going to a cashpoint. The Action's unreleased album has got some good stuff on it too. Think they did that about 68 so it's a bit psyche - you've probably heard it. I'll have a listen to the podcast tomorrow. Oh yeah - thanks for sharing.

Mike, I had that album as well, it had Glendora on it, which I've never had (yet), the Locomotive as well I think, I do actually have the Terry Reid 45 but it's practically unplayable, I once had a promo only thing by him called Superlungs which I gave away to someone and years later saw it for sale for a lot of money...

The tracks I'd forgotten about on that compilation were:-

Tony Rivers - God Only Knows

The Gods - Baby's Rich

Boston Crabs - Gin House

The Locomotive - Armageddon

The Moles - We Are The Moles

Roulettes - Long Cigarette

Viv prince - Light Of The Charge Brigade

Artwoods - What shall I Do ( think that's Ronnie Wood's first band?)

Love Sculpture - the Stumble

Rod Stewart - Shake

I'll have to refresh my memory of these on You Tube

I bidded unsuccessfully on ebay recently for the Terry Reid 45 - think it went for about £25.

I went to see Ian McLagan at the Half Moon Putney last summer and was suprised to see Terry Reid on the bill later that month, obviously still gigging.
