How about this one? Pheasants on Throne. Alltime fave of mine ever since I heard it c/up on a tape almost 20 years ago.

Thanks Benji, really liking this one, much like Adios or Elephant Walk by Donald Jenkins, this record manages to SOUND WET, at least to me it does and that's perfect for the foggy day we're having out this way, cheers!

Dynamics - I wanna know. Another goodie for this thread isn't it?

I also think the Pheasants might be the first Bobby Eli involved record.

I never played the "and that's a natural fact" side of that 45, it's pretty good. I always wondered why that record wasn't worth more, it's much harder than "misery" (which was a hit).

Two great sides, personally I've always wondered why I was silly enough to sell it!

Another corker:

Those were both great as well, always meant to check out that Drapers record, and it's awesome!

the squires on gee is really good too

Oh yeah, both sides of that sound cool, the key change in "Don't Accuse Me" is really ominous!

At this point you're really getting into the realm of doowop (stuff like the squires or drapers is transitional soul, but people are now posting 50s stuff). There are a bazillion doowop (bootleg) comps, I think if you find a series with more uptempo stuff (and not filled with White groups) you would be into it. I'm only suggesting this because there are a lot of doowop records (and that's not my field) so it seems weird for people to randomly suggest late 50s tracks when there's probably a ton of them. It's different with soul because there is more knowledge of the field here, for example, I probably have most early 60s soul group records. Just a suggestion.

That would be contrary to the point of this post though man...

I have a feeling that there are many people on here who know plenty about 50's things and the goal of asking this question was mostly to see what kind of doo woppy things members on here like and or may work for the dance floor. I don't care what year it's from. Although I don't see a whole lot of 50's stuff being posted.

Starting this topic because at our party out here in California we play a real mix of things from the 50's thru the 70's including the rare and the not so much as well as soul, funk, rockabilly, doowop, girl groups, etc etc. I know that many DooWop tunes have made it on to the floors around the world of soul dancing and I'm mostly wondering if the community here has any recommendations.

and of course I'm aware some aren't big fans of this sound so feel free to slagg as well ! :P

Heres a few tunes I like that have a bit of an earlier sound

Arabia- The Delcos - sadly the orig version on ebony isn't on the tube

https://youtu.be/_xKK3atvfoU

Chandeliers - Heartbreaker - a bit slower, still need to find one!

The Profiles- Take a giant Step

and lastly here's a purely doowop track that's just so soulful and uplifting

https://youtu.be/hq0R0Dgfsxk

of course nearly anything on the Lummtone label seems to fit the bill as well

thanks very much in advance!!

Hey! Where do you DJ in California? I live/DJ on the central coast (Monterey/Santa Cruz) oldies, girl group, soul. Are you up in the city?

Some early transitional stuff I like (and these are all things I got turned on to by Dick V at Rooky's):

Victorians - what makes little girls cry

Patty McCoy and the Renegades - double trouble

Unforgettables - was it alright

I'm up in San Francisco, we do a few different nights, the biggest one is called Oldies Night and we play all kinds of stuff at that one , then we do a slow jams and ballads night and a night where it's pretty much just rare sixties soul 45's. PM me your email or something man!

ok, hopefully some people who know 50s will come out and post.

You're in monterey? I love that Teddy Morrow 45 which I think is from there. it's so good. Also have the T&E corp which I like a lot (but not as much as the Teddy Morrow).

LjBlanken I think is from Monterey, if that's what you mean. I think some friends may have contacted Teddy Morrow if it's the 45 i'm thinking of, not on youtube and I remember the label looking a bit weird. Sweet soul tune yes?

Oh I see it's on one of your shows but I can't tell which one..
