Guest Dan Posted August 30, 2004 Posted August 30, 2004 Would be very interested to hear stories from anyone on the forum who has had the good luck to come across an artist/group over the years? Also, who would you find if you could wave a magic wand ie someone who still eludes discovery after all these years??? I'd love to find Walter of Walter and the Admerations...Tim Ashibende did say he knew who this was but I've not got a Scooby who it was
Mike Posted August 30, 2004 Posted August 30, 2004 over the 7 years site has been running have had a fair few artists pop in From suprising ones like songwriters trying to track down why they havent recieved royalties, one Thorton Sister helping site, another one having a go, Dodgy artists seeking self publicity as they try and cash in on a obscure uk pop release Think it be a fairly lengthy list On Walter of the Admerations, there was a article posted by Andy Rix ? on soulsource about a website either concerning him or one of other members, it may be findable by site search (if not shout) It was rather a strange affair as the site starts up normal but rapidly descends in to strangeness, where he claims to be the legal owner of motown, fbi conspiracies and so on Often wonder how much damage, the "make a quick buck out of ignorance" gang cause Can remember reading a few times in past, a certain promoter bragging how he picked up rare 45s for cheap $$ and then sold on for large sums Scabby or what?
Guest Dan Posted August 31, 2004 Posted August 31, 2004 Thanks Mike. Would be interested to hear more about Thornton sisters if poss. Am having a look for Walter on line as we speak. Agree re rip-offs, for sure. Dan

Guest in town Mikey Posted August 31, 2004 Posted August 31, 2004 I have been trying to get into contact with some Chicago people while trying to find out some info on a 60s chicago label. In my virgin attempts at contact, I was in email contact with a lady who had the same name as one of the producers on the label I am trying to contact. She was very nice and seemed interested in what I was doing, and the fact there was somebody else in Chicago at the same time as her with the same name. Cant imagine there are too many Penny Pendlets in the USA, despite the enourmous amount of people who live there.
Chalky Posted August 31, 2004 Posted August 31, 2004 I'd love to find Walter of Walter and the Admerations...Tim Ashibende did say he knew who this was but I've not got a Scooby who it was "Walter" is Walter Smith. He was in the original Admirations but left the group after bust up. He then formed Walter & Admerations and these later went on to become the Green Berets (without Walter I think).
Simon T Posted August 31, 2004 Posted August 31, 2004 On Walter of the Admerations, there was a article posted by Andy Rix ? on soulsource about a website either concerning him or one of other members, it may be findable by site search (if not shout) It was rather a strange affair as the site starts up normal but rapidly descends in to strangeness, where he claims to be the legal owner of motown, fbi conspiracies and so on It was www.hometown.aol.com.stsleuth/ , but I think it's defunk now.
Guest Dan Posted September 1, 2004 Posted September 1, 2004 Thanks everyone. Any pics/interviews with Walter anywhere? And to re-pose my question of before, who are the big undiscovereds still out there? Has anyone ever found the Fascinators (Bombay version) for instance? Nothing in Robert Pruter's book about them (assuming they're a Chicago act).
