Go ahead Punk make my day!!

Thought I would share my strange buying experience with you from today.

Got a call this morning from someone quite local saying he had a small mainly punk rock collection was moving to Scotland and asked me to call round and have a look and make an offer if i was interested which i did.

He had the records in two boxes and an LP case on the living room floor and explained the first box was all punk 45s the second was mainly Punk lp's and the third box which had over 300 45's in it in his words was full of rubbish and he would throw these in for free if I bought the Punk.

Anyway i had a good look through the punk singles and Lp's then took a quick flick through the first 10 or 20 records in the rubbish box and it looked like he said - complete rubbish - mainly 80's picture sleeves from the few I saw.

I made him a resonable bid which he was happy with - not a bad punk collection really ,I was very happy.

I took the boxes home and thought I'll sort through the box of "rubbish" 45's not expecting anything but was surprised to find about 30 nice Northern soul 45's in there.

Perhaps the nicest one was one from a personal point I remember wanting a few years ago when it was a big sound and remember making a bid of £80.00 on one on Ebay to be refused.

The record in question was Touch my heart - The Vonettes on Cobblestone. Got given to me for free by a Punk.

Anybody got any similar stories.

Had loads like that, one last week in fact, someone gave me a bag full of records, it really was the worst pile of rubbish you can imagine, Kylie & Jason, Cliff Richard, horrible 80's stuff, and one 60's record - a rare skinhead reggae record called "Organism" by Anonymously Yours on Duke. Seen this go for £75. No other 60's records at all. How did it get there?

I once answered an add in the paper that was for guitars, rock posters, blah blah blah, and lastly 45s. I got there and it was a strange looking house near Haight St, and old man with a bald head and long white hair answered and I noticed right away that there was a painting of him as a clown in the foyer. Anyhow we went downstairs and there were unsleeved 45's hanging on giant nails probably about 600 or so and he said they were a buck a piece and if they were worth more that was my gain but there would be no wheeling and dealing, which sounded fine to me. I took about an hour scouring through, found lots of stuff I didn't know about and a couple things I did, Pain - Mitty Collier, Foxy Girls in Oakland - Roger Collins, and all in all bought about $250 decent funk and RnB records from him, nothing worth over $60. As I was leaving I noticed a small pile of 80's picture sleeves sitting on a desk. "Those are a buck a piece too" he said, so I looked through and bought what turned out to be the very first Misfits 45!

An older friend of mine that was a bit more knowledgeable came back with me to look through and see if there was anything I'd missed.

He asked the man what the Marty Balin ( a lead singer of Jefferson Airplane) connection was and he replied that that was in fact his son.

I didn't have an ebay account so my buddy sold it for me and split the earnings, in the end the old guy got $250, Josh got $250, and I got my new old records for free :)

So a bit of a reverse Punk story there
