JOE TORQUAY Posted January 18, 2012 Author Posted January 18, 2012 (edited) Leon Haywood Baby Reconsider At the "Twisted Wheel" this became allegedly the first "soul" 45 to be sold for £10!! Today some 43 years down the road - it is still considered one of THEgreatest Northern Soul 45s ever found. Well, what would you expect when Leon Haywood, Arthur Wright and Cliff Goldsmith rub shoulders in a studio back in October 1966! They crafted "Northern Soul" perfection, that is regarded in STOCK COPY format as the ultimate way to own it.Why? The subsequent 70s Fat Fish vinyl "Bootleg" has dreadful sound quality, the Fantasy 1977 UK re-issue is an awful 70s remix that completely loses all it's 60s quality. This copy - is in absolutely as good as it gets condition - never encountered a Northern Soul DJ - visually and sound quality MINT minus! A beauty! A trophy! A Classic ! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 563.00 Steve Mancha Friday Night C/w Monday Through Thursday The legacy Richard Popcorn Wylie & Tony Hester left the Northern Soul movement is perhaps unparalleled. Here is another fine example of the pairs craftsmanship. "Friday Night" is a horn propelled dance experience just saturated in everything that is exceptional about mid-60s Motor City music. You won't be able to resist Steve Mancha's rasping vocal taking you places few records do - listen this'll be the best "Friday" you've ever had! As if not to be outdone Melvin Davis, Clyde Wilson and Don Davis ask the question on the flipside - hey what about "Monday Through Thursday. Every ear-piercing girl choris every horn blow, every Bari-tone saxophone purr matches the dynamic a-side - this is a record that demands your acute respect, twice over. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 220.00 Miss D. D. Phillips Hey Little Girl Miss D. D. takes James Royal's recording and gives it the female ingredient that lifts this way past the UK CBS original. An all-nighter classic from those halcyon days of long-hot summer night when niters rang to the sounds of Larry Santos, Maurice Williams, Mel Britt and the occasional joyous girly tune to mix it up. This copy again could hardly be in finer condition - totally flawless, with both labels and vinyl being pristine! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 104.00 Edited January 18, 2012 by JOE TORQUAY

JOE TORQUAY Posted January 18, 2012 Author Posted January 18, 2012 Kenny Smith And The Maximum Feeling Everybody Knows I Love You C/w Skunkie Ridiculously RARE 45!! Delivering top quality grassroots rare-soul on two fronts: Topside is smooth-running feel-good Northern Soul dancer with the compulsory shrill girl group backing woven into an imaginative backing track; littered with strong inventive horn work - cymbal thrashing, jazzy complicated guitar riffs all mingle into one deliciously different NS delight! Flip it to hear the versatile Kenny Smith leaping head first into a Deep Funk! Again a cymbal trashing journey, accompanied by a tenacious bass player,a persistent Wah-Wah, then cream on the cake comes, when a distant horn section melts into the background chants! Just great! Two fab sides and so rare... we are not ashamed to say it's our first copy of this century! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 213.00 Manhattans I Wanna Be (your Everything) C/w Searcin' For My Baby Joe Evans of 350 Chadwick Avenue, Newark, New Jersey... you created the East Coast's most coveted 60s Soul label but had very few UK releases. The CARNIVAL group of labels gave the rare-soul collector, not only iconic design, but also plethora of outrageously fine soul music, which included a group many hold on a equal standing as The Dells, Temptations, Dramatics... This is the first Carnival label's UK release and the Manhattans best known Northern Soul dancer (which Jimmy James & The Vagabonds also covered). To find a copy in 2011 still retaining the original company with vinyl and labels in flawless condition is a rare thing indeed. Click the sound-file to hear one of the world's greatest soul-gatherings belt out Blue Lovett's feel-good composition. This is Northern Soul ...but in a very elusive format. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 108.00 25th Century Band Revue Nothing Is Better For Me (than Thee) C/w Peacock Seriously obscure vocal-group sweet soul harmony ballad from the "deep side" of soul. The intro does not prepare you for the soaring falsetto lead vocal that kick starts this wonderful example of fusing different vocal into one highly-tuned harmony ballad. Take time to listen, every single vocal is pitch-perfect, contrasting against each other - an atmospheric rap adds to the texture of the "tapestry" of sweetness - the lone piano is all that's required when the vocal are as skilled as this recording captures. As so often is the case - the flipside is hard-hitting FUNK - underlining the versatility of these talent saturated local-vocal-groups. Condition of this 45 is near perfect! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 22.00 Lee Dorsey The Best Of Lee Dorsey You are viewing one seriously tough British LP to find, on the UK's most-wanted label, UK SUE !! Lee Dorsey was to New Orleans in the 60s what Fats Domino was during the 50s. Chris Blackwell's decision to release this 16 track compilation of his "Fury" recordings was inspired by the love of black music more than for commercial reasons. Pre-"Ride Your Pony "- Lee Dorsey was an unknown on this Isle and of course the LP sold in virtually nothing. Making this 1965 UKpress a seldom seen, annoyingly elusive platter. But in this condition with two perfect labels, neat clean flaw-free vinyl and a cover with no writing on it front or back - it is a rare delight for the eye and ear. Consideration of ownership, should not be ponder as it this condition it's a certified rarity! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 50.00
JOE TORQUAY Posted January 18, 2012 Author Posted January 18, 2012 Roddy Joy Come Back Baby C/w Love Hit Me With A Wallop What is it, about the UK Pye distributed DEMO that induces goose-pimples? After all they are just black and white simplistic labels; but adored with the Red Bird company sleeve and a "2 April" date stamp, that central over-sized "A" and all of a sudden it morphs into a vinyl-work-of-art. Spin it to you'll experience a sultry girl version of the Stoppers - Come Back Baby - with all the same irresistible allurement the male-vocal-group version has. Note also the label makers at PYE mis-spelled this lady's name as RODDYshould of course read Roddie! So rare, So Gorgeous, So Sexy, So immaculate, how could anyone resist... Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 55.00
